I think they look beautiful :)

They'll look even nicer with hair lol. I like how their eyes seem to glow- purple is nice! As for them looking cat-like, I agree, for females and males both, they have a cat/lion vibe emanating off of them. But being a cat person... I like that XD

Sorry but, there's nothing deer like about the fem worgen, they look like a cross of Foxes and Wolves.
Honestly, looking at those pictures... they look like a deer/fox hybrid, not a wolf/fox hybrid... :?

Edit: looking closer at the photos... I think I found where they went wrong (and what makes the models look so fox-like) - they're not furry/bulky enough. Wolves have rather thick fur and are strong creatures, foxes have shorter fur and are skinnier. They just need to make 'em look stronger and less skinny/short-furred.
No, they're just fine as they are, tbh, muscle wise and all that [the males are to bulky imo]. Wolves aren't hawked up on steroids and they're lithe creatures. The problem as you said, is the fur. They do need to be fuzzy, more fuzzy than cows. But they aren't. And that's where part of the problem shows up.

Also the main reason I showed the deer picture is because of the ears. No way in hell, sorry but seriously, do worgen ears look remotely like the satilite dishes Deer sport. Yes the ears need work but they look canine/vulpine to me. The only reason people are getting the deer impression, is because of the lack of hair really.

I for one think they look amazing. =) The arms are a bit out of proportion for my liking, but the worgen have always had that style. The legs remind me of the Draenei hooves, which is one of my favourite things, very animalistic. ^^

They do look a bit odd without hair, but with my imagination I can imagine the hairstyles on them. :3 I'm very impressed.

I believe most of you, when you picture wolves, think of the big fuzzy timber wolves you have up there in the states. However, when we have a look at some canis lupis on other parts of the world...

Looks pretty close to me. ;)

Yes I know, with the climate that Gilneas seems to have, your fuzzy wolves would make more sense. I'd prefer a little more fur too. But I figure I'd point it out anyway. A lot of that problem will go away once we have the hair styles. I still have a pic of them from when MMO was doing the Alpha leak. Lemme see if I can photoshop something cheap and horrible up.

EDIT TO THE SKY: Behold! My very poor photoshop attempt! Hmm, should have chosen a better hair style methinks.

This does make me wonder why Blizz DIDN'T include their hair with their model shots though.

I personally like the look of em, the hair will really flesh out the model imo. What I think would make it look more feral would be to add more of an arch to the upper back lip for combat. Not the awful snarl of the bears in the game but something animated that worked with the expressive ears. As to the shading of the face I think that is okay too. There are dog breeds along with wild wolves that have the light around the eyes that I think it fine :) helps to define the them. I think the reason people are complaining of the fox looks is because they are more feminine looking. Its pretty hard to tell wolf genders just by the face I guess haha. They had to slim something down.

The ears are the only thing I have issues with. It screams more cat-like to me, then wolf-like. Mine as well wait for the hair to come in. It may look better.

I'm really disappointed with these though I'm trying to reserve judgment until they are finished. I've never really had a female char so I saved up a whole bunch of fun dresses and outfits in anticipation for a worgen, I hope they come out better or I'll have a lot to sell or one of my new male worgen hunters is going to be a cross dresser...

The ears aren't when compared to the pictures of the other wolves posted in the thread.

Hey you never know.

Also, with all the worgen that are going to show up; being a cross dresser could be his thing. Gotta be unique ya know?

Have you seen the difference between male/female orcs/trolls/tauren/draenei? Blizz is really bent on making all the females slim and stereotypical looking. Just change out the heads for the most part.

Well, that is a little bit of a stretch, but not much...

Of course, if you meant just the head, then yeah, it probably would look better if they didn't change it much...

I meant just the head, but the body is a bit odd too, when you think about it.

Agreed.

Blizz should just suck it up, make the female worgen look like the male worgen but with breasts, make only 55% of the community happy...

The other 45%, being males who don't play WoW yet, and would only play because of the "hot wolf chick".

I agree with the assessment that it looks like a Disney-esque anthropomorphic character than anything else. Also agree with the statement that all the old races desperately need texture upgrades, along with animation upgrades, to match the new races. Without such upgrades, our characters are really going to feel like second-rate players alongside the significantly improved Goblins and Worgen.

Blue post from the EU Cata forums:
Touching up some of the original models is actually something that we are giving some thought, as we would like to bring them up to par with the newer models.

Although we have no intentions to change the current proportions of the original models, it is a possibility that we will add additional polygons to improve detail levels and such.

Linkage here

Actually, I've seen some furry porn that would make a really good model for female worgen. Lemme see if I can find a link ...

Glad to see there's some thought towards improving the current models, hopefully they come through with that.

And it's funny, I just had a second look at the female Worgen and thought "well, the furries will be ecstatic" and then came here and saw Mania's post :p

I think increasing the polygons and perhaps updating the textures of the old models would be an excellent move. It would be hard for Blizzard to redo them from the ground up due to people having known the same models for years. Any drastic changes regarding someone's character like that is extremely risky and usually met with backlash. I can't see there being any problems on just improving the quality of the existing ones however.
