Cats, wolves, bears, mastiffs, boars, raptors, dragonhawks, crabs, plainstriders, bats, moths. Which of these things is not like the other? All the others have a feel of power to them. Then there's the moth. What do you think of when you think of moths? Holoes in clothes. Maybe they should get a second attack... +10% damage to cloth wearers. lol Oh, and I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that doesn't like the Mastiffs.
Hey! Don't diss my Hokori!! *hugs her blue moth of doom* Besides, for a draenei, I've learned since rolling Sara way back when, the moths really do fit. The stoic calm of the draenei just... fits with the moth.

I dislike the mastiffs too, they look too dead for me.

Also, the word "Moth" just SCREAMS power!

I like the list. I think wolves could go with either humans or Orcs, but Orcs with boars fits well too. Dwarves and bears is an obvious match to me. I think they chose well, all in all. I'm not going to enjoy 10 lvls with a crab when I make my goblin hunter, though. I've never clicked with a crab. But, esthetically, it's an appropriate choice.

If they gave them ravagers, then every noob would roll a space-goat, just for the pet.

Remember, these are starter-pets, not final ones.. :D

However, I must admit, since the space-goats brought the ravagers to Azeroth...

Added Bulletdance's youtube find (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAUkspARZaY) :)

New unique find through that shows Night Elves starting with a mount model tiger with black and white stripes and Tauren starting with the purple and green tallstrider! Worgen are again confirmed with be paired with a mastiff.

I also noticed that the moth model the draenei start with isn't currently available at low levels. :)

Was I the only one that saw the giant bat behind the undead and immediately wanted to roll one?

Personally I think that Scorpids are a better match for Orcs, or Worgs, and then Spiders for Humans, but meh

It makes me sad that the mastiffs are getting the Worg model. Dogs seem happy and bouncy, not static and serious. But they're war dogs, so meh.

Tbh I wouldn't want to see a bouncy war dog. I mean I've had a sight hound and I know they aren't as stoic as the northrend worgs [as I've had bouncy wolfhounds], but yeah for a war dog? I wouldn't expect the bouncy idle animation.

But perhaps a cross of worg and wolf model? Or just the wolf model? Cause it's not surprising for a dog to sit and scratch itself or sniff about, war dog or not.

I might be the only one, but I think Blizzard have done a VERY good job matching the pets with their selected class. <3 I've always started with Plainstriders on my Tauren hunters, for example. Just my opinion, but I think they've got it all spot on. ^^

A guard on patrol with two mastiffs:

Gives an idea of size and perhaps of gait? Being huge and heavy mastiffs I would not expect them to be very bouncy. I'm hoping that it will open the doors to bringing in some other kinds of dogs in the future, though. There's enough wolf type pets so something with floppy ears would be a nice change.

I agree, I really like the decisions they made. =) Most are ones that I would have picked myself. Though a few were a little surprising (moths, crabs), they actually fit quite nicely after I thought about them.

EDIT: Agh, I just love those Mastiffs!! If I'm able to I want to tame one right away in Cataclysm. Could be because I have a mastiff myself. ;)

The hunters noticed that there was a chance of tamable mastiff pets, and there was much rejoicing.
I think that the worg animations for the mastiff are just there as place holder graphics. Mostly because they're so incredibly glitchy at the moment. D:

On topic, I think it's a good selection of pets for each race. You can find most of those witin the level 1-5 area each race starts at (the exception being dragonhawks for the Belfs, maybe the goblin/worgens too but we don't know yet) which makes sense to me.

Oh my, that front leg folding makes me cringe. xD

I hope they get their own set of animations, it would be nice. :) The worg ones wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't for those damn gimpy back legs. Since I often see the back of my pets it's the first thing I notice. It looks like they're limping or something. Also why I can't stand to use the wolf mounts, since I stare right at the back legs.

QFT. I never could stand that stick-up-the-butt run those worg models have, irritates the crud outta me. But then I am kinda picky when it comes to pets, anyway. :D

Hehe, I try not to focus on it with my Skoll, and I've had hunters in the past with Worgs. If I really want the pet I'll get one no matter what, but it does irritate me. x)

the list makes sence to me , only the human-wolf thing is a bit out of place
orcs live with wolves , ride on wolves , befriend wolves , but they tame boars?
ofcourse its hard to find a real good match with human hunters
still i think orcs should have gotten the wolves ;)

im happy with em all, but it makes me wonder if these, like the mastiff and white riding cat model will only be obtainable by making a hunter of that race.
