They don't need to follow whats in the books. The books are more filler then anything.

That and a LOT of people don't read the books. I've read quite a few of them, but not all, but I've also found that most people have no idea what I'm talking about if I mention the books. People get their lore from Warcraft and WoWWiki, honestly.
