Oh wow. Those are gorgeous screenshots, Veph. I can't say I miss nighttime, I never got to play in it. But I would LOVE to be able to wander around at night in Azeroth. Makes you wonder why the player can't just choose if they want day night. Probably complicated to code but oh... -wishes-

at the very least an option to turn bright nights on or off. then again, if folks are too damned lazy to up their brightness they're too lazy to go and find then click said option.

Well you could argue that if you want night now you could darken it too. You could argue those people are lazy too.

Well and I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be more fond of a toggle/choice for each person too. Because one of the selling points of WoW has always been the ability to play it without needing one heck of a computer. Some people might still be running on older monitors that even with changing their brightness/darkness it might not help much?

Adjusting brightness/darkness isn't quite the same though. Illumination and saturation aren't changed by something like that, it wouldn't magically alter the property of shadows and atmosphere, it just artificially brightens or dampens the entire screen and doesn't give the same effect at all as true night and day.
WoW had night for longer than it didn't, I really hope they'll find a way of bringing it back.

I know I only said that because people where going "people should up their brightness if they don't like the nightime" and you could use that argument for darkness too.

I think if they bring it back they should have a on/off. I don't think i'd use it myself.

I do remember having to increase my game brightness cause I couldn't see anything. I guess that's why I didn't notice when night disappeared. So I suppose I never really experienced night. Just a washed out, too bright-ness. It was very annoying having to switch my brightness depending on time of day.
Those screenshots are lovely tho. I guess on a good computer, night would have been a good thing. On mine, it was just too dark to function. Maybe they did it because the realized that alot of people can't function at night due to either computer issues or eyesight issues?
I still enjoy the setting of the sun and rising of the moon. I can tell dawn from dusk. Really, its just a titch brighter than a cloudless moonlit night. All they'd have to do is put a silvery lens over it and deepen some shadows a little. We could still see then, but it would feel more like night.

I really miss it too.
I remember when I played Ultima Online, there was an option to turn on 'true nights' or something. I wish they would do the same in WoW.

I found a few old nighttime screenshots. Some were taken years ago during Burning Crusade (bad resolution and all inclusive). I loved playing during nighttime and taking screenshots during nighttime. It just gave the game so much more depth. Most of the time I spent in wow a few years ago was during the night.

I miss night time too. I remember being really bothered by the perpetual daytime in Hellfire since that was where I spent a lot of my time before I started leveling again and now the perpetual daytime seems to have spread across the rest of the world as well.
Also when did the Blue Child vanished again?! I was so happy to see it reappear back when I was playing.

Yeah, I agree that I miss it. Levelling a couple of belves in their actual starting zone has made me miss it even more, since Blizz forgot to change it there (ah, the joy of belf areas never getting updated~). I also have sensitive eyes, and the perpetual daytime not only gives me a headache; I've had to take out my contacts and take a nap because it made my eyes freak out so much NUMEROUS times. But if I lower my gamma, I still can't see anything in-game.):

Just a thought, have you checked all your monitor settings? Aside from the usual brightness/contrast settings, mine has different "temperature" modes and colour settings, all which significantly change the appearance. Personally I prefer the softer/warmer settings as my brain seems to perceive them as less "in your face" (I really don't know how to explain this well, sorry).

Yeah, I've tried everything (on both a mac and a PC). I'm not sure what to do at this point, other than just deal with the headaches and whatnot.

Semi-necroing my own thread because of the recent exciting news! It sounds like nights might be returning for WoD.
http://wow.joystiq.com/2014/07/04/warlo ... get-darker
@mumper Nights will be darker in WoD? Please, please please. We want to see Stormwind/Orgrimmar in darks when it's night...
@ucaniguana We are working on something for this, hoping to debut it with 6.0. Should have more details soon.
