I'm pretty sure it's because it starts with "guard". Guard is probably considered a title, and titles aren't allowed.

Hell, it happened to me when I wanted to name my Loque Optimus. I had the name before on a gorilla then months later, I couldnt do it.

I still had a screenshot with the date I had tamed her, gave the GM the name and asked if it was possible to restore her. I had to logg out and after logging in again on this char she was back in my stables.
Did she still have the name Aotona?
I'm starting to think maybe they can just give you the pet even if they don't find it in your logs, but this would only make sense if she didn't have the name Aotona
I had renamed her to Mapiya directly after taming and I got her back with this name. It was like she had never been away at all.

Optimus Primal
My Guardor is also based from a Transformer, but one of my OC ones

Actually, the vast majority of my pets across all my hunters are named after my Transformer OCs

I was more iterested to see if pets are kept in their database forever, much like characters. And from this thread I presume they are.
A big thank you to all the contributers of this thread.
I don't know if this is a thing but by some of the responses it seems as though if you release a pet with a rename you cant use that rename again with a new tamed pet?

You just cannot have two pets in your stable with the same name.

This is not true. I will sometimes decide on a different color for a pet, and will have both of them with the same name temporarily with no troubles.

Must be a bug for me then. A really long bug because the game doesn't allow me two pets with the same name.

They've got a function to determine if a name is acceptable, it's not just a list (although there are lists involved). When the function changes, they don't go through and check existing names, but new names are checked with the new function. Most likely that's what happened.

Seriously? What the hell is wrong with that name?
Anyway I put in a ticket it for it and they told me that they didn't see why the name would be banned, but also that they wouldn't do anything about it.
It's been a number of years since then, and I try every 6 months or to get the name back but don't think I ever will.
There's nothing terrible about Guardor.... I just don't get it

"Guard" might be what's blocking it now. They tend to block title type words.

Whoa, I didn't even know this might be an option, just reading this after making a post about how I lost my Terrorpene on accident when I first started MoP.

I just got him back literally 5 minutes after submitting a ticket. I am amazed how fast they are for this! Great job GM who helped me and other nice GMs!

Grats on getting it back! That GM was really nice, not all of them are. Some tell us to go and tame it again, which can be a real pain if it's a Rare mob stuck in a CRZ area.
