A friend named his Hunter's pet crab "Kwell".

I named my Arcturis 'Dipper', after Little Dipper the constellation.

What I really hate are pet names that don't begin with a capital letter. I really don't get why people are so lazy and can't press that shift key.

I tend to name my pets after some kind of mythical creature of the same or closest species to the pet itself. If there isn't really anything like that available, I might go for the latin species name or something along those lines, or maybe something to do with the colour of the pet. Failing that, i'll take inspiration from another video game.

I do have a couple of silly ones though:

A crab called CrabCNesbitt (if you're from the UK, you may get this)
A tiger called Pantang
A bat called Bruce
A T-Rex called Bolan
A spirit beast porcupine called Tree

I don't like to make it too easy to get the reference!

I get Bolan, wish I'd thought of it!
I pretty much only have Nosboaratu the undead boar in my funny names section. I am debating an Elder Gods page though, I already have Tsathoggua.

Many of Snope's pet names are references to characters in My Immortal. Specifically references to misspelled names. Like Voldemint the Nether Ray. Or a wolf named Loopin.

Just for kicks, I tested one of my hunters out with a pet boar ... and named him HogginDazs.

I ended up naming my Degu as 'HeartAttack' considering he almost gave me one right before the tame ding went off. Heh.
Also got a fel-touched worg named 'Blightfang', ehehee.


And of course, I can't forget my oldest, favorite pet.....Nibbles the Devilsaur.

Friend of mine named his pet cat Bird. Bird the cat tanked HFC trash while waiting for tanks to arrive, he was a hero.

Helbacon the felpiggie is one of my hunter Lyrothea's dearest animal friends, and Kashrut the ghost boar for my dead/abomination themed hunter Kibbled. I tried to keep other punny names to a minimum...mostly...but Firetruck the red warpstalker, Furball the cat, and Stealthnerf the ghost crab all have seats at the table...

I hate it. Not just on pet names, but on character and guild names as well.

I named one of my piggies 'BaconSammich'.

I don't like pets that still have their family names, or that are named and the people just name the pet the name of the NPC..

God. Laaaazy.

Now, I do like people on other-language clients that have a Spirit Beast with the family name. "Fera Espiritual" isn't too bad.

This has inspired me to find and tame something (I don't know what yet) and name it "lowercase." Just like that, with no caps.

I'm tempted to tame a pet and lowercase its name "default".

The most punny pets I have:
Gorilla - SymbolfKongs
Wind serpent - Trenchcoatl
Chromagnus - Klinzchek

Sometimes I make level 1 hunters on other servers for one reason or another, and I usually go with a Draenei hunter named Lamaarq and name the pet moth Pepper.

I like seeing the foreign language names too, it makes me envious especially when I can't use those characters. Like for warlocks, I imagine they really had to study hard to learn the demons' true name.

Possibly a "you-had-to-be-there" type thing... At some point in MoP, my raid leader asked me to tame a spore bat, since our raid was missing that particular buff. Once I realized that he was serious (he had apparently never seen the "What is the Best Hunter Pet?" video), I decided to name it after him... So in honor of Lorangriel, our raid was, for a time, joined by Sporangriel.

I tried to be goofy and named my Skol Raiden.....turned out the more I played with him, the name suit him more as badass then goofy
