Actually it was Jeremy Feasel that did this for us to give us more color variation choices when it comes to taming pets. It was extremely generous of him and if I recall correctly he did this in his spare time too.

Yeah, basilisks were a weird case. Looking at the skins, it was clear the artists intended for certain crystals to be used with certain body colours. BUT, the area designers had long ago (probably in Vanilla) ignored this, so by the time of Cataclysm there were already many cases where the crystals didn't match the corresponding crystal bases on the body textures. So Jeremy added all other possible combos (except for I think 3 (?) purple ones, that's all), which was an amazing amount of work. Some of them clash a bit if you compare crystal and base, but I think many of the striking colour combinations you can get from them more than makes up for it. Some of them are very garish and flamboyant, but in a cool way They aren't to everyone's taste though, and fair enough.

I'm hoping for a blanket overhaul of beast and critter models for everything they at least already have a new model for. The whole works. It's really painful looking at the old animals compared to the new ones, and very hard to put an old model pet next to a character that's all spiffed up. I just think to myself "why don't they just replace them? they already have the models!" I'm beyond the point of being sentimental about the old models.

Those look gnarly!

And the spiders do look pretty good too, upon a closer look. At first, I thought they were slightly altered Bone Spiders, but they actually look pretty cool. I love that their heads are actually spiderlike compared to previously!

From what I can see, those look completely badass. I will definitely get a basilisk if that's what they'll look like! Good catch, and that you for the screencaps. I couldn't see too well in the video, so this is great

FYI those flying things in the backround in case anyone is wondering are called imp mothers, they are the gargoyle type beast you saw in the concept arts and the legion cinematic, they are demons and it seems a new demo warlock pet, among scores of other new demons the demo locks get, they were also discussing making enslave demon a permanent, like a tame, demo lock only

Before you all freak out to much about these new models...
Maybe they'll be in the demon hunter starting zone that can't be accessed by any other class?
Like you couldn't go to DK starting zone either?

Good point, as this zone will be inaccessible to us, but I think it's highly unlikely they created any of these models purely for the DH starting zone. We'll almost certainly be seeing them elsewhere

Maybe, but they (esp. Jeremy) are really good at ensuring all colours are available somewhere. I'd be surprised if that changed this time, so I'm not worried

That's a much better angle on the spiny basilisk. So awesome!

And the spider definitely looks like it's related to (but perhaps not identical to) the fire model. It is a very nice model and I'm glad they're adapting it

The legs of the new model is VERY different than the fire one. They look like solid metal bits have been put on their legs.

Agreed. It's looked like it had the fire model's base but different outward appearance. They do look like they're wearing either stone or metal boots. And it's extra spikey. lol So excited for this spider.

I'm not sure how much of that is simply the texturing. If you remove that then the models my be much closer in shape. Ah well, either way they do look good

I stand corrected about the things I said were imp mothers, apparently the imp mothers are fat ugly imp women that look like theradras or a female gorefiend from draenor, the winged creatures are called FEL BATS, yes BATS, we may see them as tameable, remember we had fel core hounds as tameable and fel wolves and bores
