I've always played MM because it fits my play style the best. I've played the others and they've never gelled well with me.

Since MM would be losing their pet in Legion and getting Lonewolf as their core skill, I would like to suggest a new form of 'Versatility' talent for MM

Versatility;

Marksmanship
Master of the Pack; Lone wolf damage buff persist even when the pet is active.

Do they need a reason to love one spec over another? Some people have played the same spec since vanilla (and they have drastically changed since then) because they feel it fits them best - i don't think it has anything to do with being "loyal" to talents. People are just upset at how drastic these changes are and if you play a hunter for the ranged aspect and a pet well really you only have one option for that playstyle realistically now....
Point is.. the specs are changing enough that it's almost a whole new class. So saying you love MM really doesn't mean much right now, since it has changed so much.

People are stuck on labels.

I agree, Slickrock. If classes never received radical changes like this, the game would stagnate and subs would drop even faster. For all class previews so far (except for the shaman), the response has been almost entirely positive, with tons of comments like "I thought I was going to main a demon hunter in Legion... not anymore!" or "I always wanted to play <class>, but <X change> finally convinced me!" This kind of diversification is necessary and it seems like they're doing a good job of it.

Initial critical feedback is important for Blizzard, especially for logic like "Players are picking a petless talent that also happens to be the competitive talent... let's make that the baseline!"

However, it makes no sense to completely beat the idea into the ground before any of the 40+ new talents we're getting are revealed, which would change the spec's playstyle dramatically.

Especially with the new Dark Ranger talent(s).. new flavor is needed...

I like this idea pop :D Or even a glyph where I could have my pet still but it didn't do alot of damage (or even none) like a cosmetic thing atleast so I still felt like a hunter.

Eh from what I've seen I'll like BM even less then I do now (and I really don't enjoy it at all) so my DK or Druid will be my main I think. No point playing a class that I don't think I'll like anymore.

I think they should keep it as a choice. I've seen like one MM hunter on my server using the lone wolf skill.

The only thing I dislike about Bm is the lack of a cast-able focus regen. Loosing control like that worries me, and I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy Bm in legion.. But I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that they'll either address this or add a talent that works similarly to cobra/steady.

The base regen is supposed to be higher.

I'm so gutted by this change. For seven years I've enjoyed being an archer with loyal pets. I've never enjoyed the beast mastery play style and wouldn't keep the spec at all except that I like exotic pets and being able to solo content. But for dungeons and raids? SV almost always. Now I have to choose between the play style I enjoy and the reason I made a hunter in the first place. I loved that they added lone wolf as a choice for folks who wanted it, but only used it for the mount dailies.

My choice is neither. I will not be playing my hunter in legion. I'm heartbroken.

Likewise. Haven't ever been able to enjoy BM and I don't want to melee. I like MM play style and I want my pet, so ultimately I'll not be playing hunter anymore. I've been MM since vanilla.

Gonna go frost Mage I reckon.

If anyone is interested, I have made a thread proposing an optional talent to give us our pets back on the US Damage forums.

Please feel free to stop by and give your feedback.

Some pet hater on the official forums made a poll asking if we look forward to being petless or if we want to keep our pets. Let's teach him a lession and bomb the poll with pro pet votes.

Yeah, none of the specs are going to be like they were, exactly. Give them a chance before you abandon the idea of going BM or SV to keep your pet :)

Well from what I've seen so far I don't think I'd enjoy what they are offering. *shrug*

I have to agree with Wain on this while opinions based on the stated changes are right fine final decisions should wait until they have been utilized and given a fair chance. Personally I love Minnie Mae will probably be my BM hunter and Katt can go MM. I really love it so far

I dunno I don't really even feel like I want to bother? The changes just don't seem all that appealing to me. Sure some of the MM talents look neat but it's all been soured by the no pets part. I'd be fine with the changes if they just let us choose to have no pets as an option and not have it forced upon us. The BM talents look kind of lame to me. I'd give them a shot sure but I really don't think that I'd enjoy them at all. BM has always bored me to tears and what they are showing now just looks like they would do the same. I never enjoyed melee as a hunter and so a melee based hunter spec just does not sound fun to me.

MM has always been the spec I've really enjoyed playing as. It's the spec that got me into hunters that and pets.
