I agree, that the new model is not the greatest, and specially not if it replaces the old one. Aside from what has been mentioned here, I have noticed that when the new model runs, the jaw is not looking that great either.
And I just tried making a new hunter (cause there were a large patch on the Alpha) but the bear has not changed at all.

Wasn't Grizzled Ben one of the few rares that never reappeared, though? Or am I thinking of a different one?

Never mind. I was thinking of a different one. *Old Vicejaw* is the rare that never reappeared.

Huh, I'll check that one out anyway, but it's probably still gone. As far as you know, are there are any other rare bears that vanished in Cata (or earlier)?

Nope. Of all the rares that disappeared in Cata, only two never reappeared in any way, shape, or form: Old Vicejaw, and Murderous Blisterpaw. And the second was semi-kinda replaced when they put in Slaverjaw (although unlike some rares, they did not reuse the NPC ID; it's still in the database, unused).

Excellent Thanks Also, I just discovered that while Wowhead tends to hide old, removed NPCs from their search results (like if you search for bears, it won't show Old Vicejaw), but MMO-C's wowdb does still show them. So I can look through all the bears that have ever existed, not just active and recently-removed.

There's still three retro looks left that haven't been covered by original rares. Anyone see any signs of them?

That's really great info, Kurasu! Slaverjaw's evolution makes sense, but I wonder why Old Vicejaw never reappeared. Maybe he'll turn up again eventually with three generations of relations. xD

That's what I was hoping for, I'll be honest. I actually keep going back to check and see if he's been remembered. I asked about him long ago, but I guess the poor ol b'ar was forgotten and passed.

.... which is sort of funny, because I *seem* to remember they actually changed his skin to a new one like they changed other rares, back in the Cata days. I could swear I recall it coming up in discussions. They just didn't put him back in the *game*. So only people who had him from pre-Cata ever knew he'd had a facelift.

I could be wrong on that, though, considering. I'll see if I can find it in old discussions, though.

EDIT: Nope. Looks like I may have been misremembering. I can't find any evidence that he's been changed in skin in the archives. My memory might be acting up. Oh well!

Still, another rare that might be (re)added and given an old skin.

You can't keep a good bear down! Fingers crossed that he's just been hibernating all this time.

Has anyone checked the ZA armored bears if they were changed or marked tameable?

Now those rares with the old models are unique now, but are better for realistic bear lovers

Since I am recreating the pets by color thread I really need some help with the new bear models. By what WoWHead shows all the rares are back to using the new model. And I mean ALL of them. Some please please please confirm this in alpha????????

I know it's a lot of time /work to check every rare bear in the game but I'd really appreciate it.

I won't add the bears to the new thread till I know.

I can ease your mind by confirming that Wowhead is wrong! They simply haven't updated their models since the retro looks were returned.

Those rares definitely still use their retro looks. I haven't checked every last one and I don't think I need to, but Mange, Big Samras and Hibernus (update: and Bjarn) definitely still use their retro looks (checked just now), and there's no reason to believe any of the others have reverted.

Any news on the bears changing appearance, so we have more of the 'old looks' available to us?

I was wondering about this too. ;-; Still anxiously awaiting news of my beloved diseased black skin...

Crossing my fingers that some just haven't been discovered yet! A lot of beta exploration and discovery is focused on the new Legion content, so I wouldn't be surprised if some have slipped under the radar. At least that's what I'm hoping! I'd go looking myself but, alas, no beta invite. ;-; It just seems odd that they'd go through the trouble of giving us the option to tame the original bear models and leave out only a few skins.

This feels like a bandaid.
