I always played Ranger or Rogue types in fantasy RPGS (PC and PnP/tabletop) so the Hunter was a logical choice. When I started WoW I'd come from playing NWN on a persistent world server where I played a Dwarf Ranger for a few years. The WoW Dwarves and their Hunters were exactly like I envisioned mine so it was a natural choice.
Eventually I wound up playing Horde and with different classes (Druid, Rogue, Hunter, Shaman) and I really loved the Hunter the most. I hate melee combat, I like ranged and leveling as DPS was much more fun than healing (this was well before dual specs).
I just liked the play style and mechanics of the Hunter, that I had a pet made it more interesting to solo quest with (not so lonely!) and everything just fit and was immersive, fun and visually compelling.
These days for raiding I prefer healing with my Shaman but come Catacylsm it'll be great to be back out there questing with my Hunter.

The concept of having a pet unlike warlocks made me jump right to it.
I love naming my own things and having variety as well.
( Also, some of the ways classes shoot bows make me want to try it irl... If I ever can get into an archery class. They'd probably yell at me. cx )

Never tried rifles myself, but there's the certain feeling of power when you're using a bow. It's really hard to describe, but I think it might be a more powerful experience than with a crossbow or gun, as with a bow you're the one doing all the work whereas the xbow and gun do it all for you. I don't want to pull a trigger, I want to BE the machine launching the projectile at my target. <3

Pffh! You oughta' try a rifle. The recoil alone should make you change your mind.

I'm less of a BANG BANG guy and more of a stealthy swoosh. XD

My friend introduced me to Wow and said that the best character to play was a Hunter as you could level faster and stay alive longer. I have created other characters since, and do like them, but I'm always drawn back to the Hunter with their pets and range fighting. That seems to be the style play that I like.

Haha the *BOOM* is very satisfying, as is the shoulder owie.
Odd, I prefer bows to rifles in game, but much prefer shooting rifles to bows IRL

Uh, don't tell me about "shoulder owie". Went hunting once. That rifle knocked me over. Turns out, standing up while shooting is an overall bad idea, if you're not prepared.

Gun Recoil: hurting you despite the love.
I'm glad though that in-game the designers included it for hunters who use rifles. (But it would be freakin hilarious on lowbie hunters, say lvl 1-4, if the recoil did make them fall on their butts.)

Something about feeling the resistance of the string, using your own arms to send the arrow flying and then seeing it planted where you intended in your target is very satisfying. I had to opportunity to try out bows for a month or so in gym class and it was a great deal of fun. Archery is definitely worth trying out.
I'm not sure what type of bow we had used, composite bows or maybe recurve... There were also a couple of compound bows which were very strange to use, I couldn't get the hang of that one as quickly and it didn't feel as satisfying as the pulleys do the work. It was possibly not in the best condition as well.

A Hunter was the very first character I created on WoW, and still my favourite.
I've always been an animal lover, so when I was reading through the class options the first time I started the game I remember pausing on Druids for a moment because turning into animals sounded pretty awesome. Then I got down to Hunters.
The idea of being able to go out and tame a pet from what seemed like infinite possibilities had me hooked instantly. That's all there was to it really.

When I first had the intention in making a hunter after watching players with pets, that was the main reason why I wanted a hunter. It was the pets. I am an animal lover, for one, and I thought it would be really neat to have a companion fight with me. Make leveling easier for me than the experience I had with leveling my warrior before. I wasn't too concerned about how a hunter worked back then, but I love the way they work for two years now. It's very easy. The traps, the aspects, the trackings, the shots, and not to mention the pet abilities. The trackings is what keeps me at ease so I don't have to worry about what might jump me.

My first MMO was Final Fantasy XI. I played a ranger and she used bows. Archery is my absolute favorite sport and anything with a bow is good in my book. I don't hunt, but I do target shoot. (love that pic, Saf. Great form there. I use a similar bow myself-a take-down recurve. How many pounds are you pulling?)
Anyway, when FFXI faded for me and I found myself zenning for a game, I contacted a friend who played WoW-he'd been a guildmate in FFXI-and found out what server and side. I bought the game, Vanilla and TBC, did the download, found the correct server and started eyeballing classes. Warrior, rogue, druid, paladin, mage, warlock all looked intriguing but my eyes zeroed in on hunter. I knew squat about the class, knew squat about the game-play, but figured I could pick it up.
Thus was Sochi re-rolled. My former mithran FFXI thief was now a female blood elf hunter. I found the bow mechanics really neat and continued. The class absolutely exploded for me when I found out about pets.
I haven't looked back.
On a side note, next time I have a bow in my hands, I'll get hubby to take a picture I can upload here.

It was a choice between a druid or a hunter, and I chose hunter.
And I loved it.

I started the game first with a druid, but somewhere along the way became disenchanted with the experience. Druids weren't the same way five years ago as they are now. So, my brother and I both decided to re-roll hunters. He had already had one and had been telling me how fun it was. I thought the traps were pretty neat and of course the idea that I could tame a creature was pretty cool. My very first pet was a green tarantula named Prickles, I'll never forget him. However, he ended up not really being the pet for me and so I went on an epic quest to tame a special, one-of-a-kind creature. Then I discovered Echeyakee and that's when I think I realized I loved hunters. I'm very much a rare/unique pet kind of person. I think it makes the "hunt" part of "hunter" more enjoyable, going out with a particular creature in mind, and making it your companion. It's very awesome indeed.

The very first toon I created (on hubby's account while trying out the game) was a night elf hunter. It definitely had something to do with always playing the elf ranger type (that's about as specific as I can be, we didn't really understand the game and it was in Danish

) in D&D when my brother and I goofed around with it as kids.
Once I got my own account (after playing one evening on that toon - I was insta-hooked!) I connived the hubby into buying me TBC before he himself got it! LOL!!

I really, really wanted a draenei after seeing them on the WoW website. I also was curious about classes and looked them up on the WoW website. Since I was really curious about the pets hunters could have, I googled it and found Petopia. Then the decision was easy - my first *real* WoW toon was a draenei huntress. With a ravager pet.

Not really much to it. I just loved the idea of being able to tame my own pets. Not only that, but I like the dual gameplay, of having to command yourself and your pet.

I liked the idea of pets, since I love animals in real life. And, try not to laugh too hard (I was NEW, ok?) I thought that the clothes on the character creation screen were what we were stuck with the whole game and the hunter's seemed tolerable. I also thought that Dun Morogh was the whole world and it would always be snowy.

Lazona was an alt. A toon created because we had far too much melee DPS in "The Dragon Knights" (WoW Vanilla, Windrunner Server), and I was asked to roll a ranged class and become ranged dps. I was hooked from the moment I solo-tamed Timber.
Now, I'm pet-crazy, and alt-hunter crazy.
Plus it also helps to have virtual pets to dote and lavish love upon since our landlady tells us we can't keep real pets at our rental unit X(
