I already grabbed mine, just in case. I agree that it would be swell to add one in as a rare somewhere (along with the orange one, just saying!)...

I went ahead and tamed one this week too. I had tamed one of the newer hydras, but the vanilla black hydras were on my original short list.

I don't recall them ever being in game as the "unused looks" doesn't list it was ever in game, am I missing something? o.O

They used to roam the borders of Azshara pre-Cataclysm, but they disappeared entirely.

Yeah the problem is they were removed before hydras first became tameable, so they don't really count as a removed look. Maybe I should add those wavethrashers as retired beasts and set the look as retired instead.

In the latest patch I'm seeing the hydras back around Alcaz Island in the OLD Theramore phase, but not the new one. So at least they're still going to be around. Perhaps they'll fix them to be in the new phase too

Also, this has happened!



The Strashaz Hydras now occur in BOTH black and orange forms (same NPC ID). The orange is the one old hydra colour we'd been missing Yayyy!

I saw a couple of oranges while I was there so I don't think it's a rare colour.

➠ Also, as far as I can tell, the new Alcaz stuff only occurs if you set Theramore to the OLD phase. If I set it to the destroyed / new phase then Alcaz is empty. Is this the way it was earlier in the PTR or is this a change in the latest patch? I presume they'll want the new stuff to be visible in the latest phase, not the oldest.

They may just leave them in the old phase, and I'm ok with that--wouldn't be the first time I've had to reset an old zone that way.

And yay! Now I'll have to tame an orange one too before I decide what color I want
