You know that that's not what I meant. I'd love Ghost Wolves again, for Stereo and Tael...

Hehe, and I meant that no need for the devs to rub it in. :D If they seriously never want us to tame any ghostly wolves at all, they should just tag all of them untameable, even the most impossible ones like these.
They should know by now that if there is an unusual pet that's even remotely possible to tame (see: is tagged tameable even for a millisecond, as was the case with Garwal's worgen form), the Hunter community won't stop until they learn to do it.

They are indeed factionless. I ran MH with the pug JUST to cast Tame Beast on these guys, by the way. It's why I'm convinced you'd need something to make you 100% hostile--like a scripted quest event or the like.
And yes--I am assuming you'd have the summon waiting, get your "faction change" and then feign + accept, ready to tame beast.

You might want to test this experiment with another animal that I found to be tamable but it's friendly to all: the bright-blue two-headed bird in Blade's Edge.

Mmm, I've never actually done MH (Only for the achievement), so I don't remember these wolves. However, the funny thing I find is the "Tameable abilities" on that Beast Lore. Blast from BC if I remember correctly. .-.

Will an MC from the other faction allow you controlled toon to attack friendlies?

Yes, but there's no way to get someone from the opposing faction into MH. Besides, you would'nt be able to cast anything.

If these wolves are where I think they are in that instance, I don't think it's just "Horde Shamans" that summon them. I think they belong only to Thrall, and that's why you're not seeing them save for at certain points. Mind you, it's been a while since we did a Hyjal run...but from what I remember from running it back in BC, they were Thrall's spiffy thing and nobody else's.
As to being able to get hostile to them...I really have absolutely no idea. I'm not sure there's any way to do it because they have no faction. They're not Alliance, they're not Horde, even if Thrall is the one summoning them. They're just kinda...there. And from an instance design standpoint, they kind of have to be that way. It'd sort of suck to be running that raid as Alliance and have Thrall's spirit wolves turn on you because you're Alliance. I don't think that would make Thrall terribly happy, either.

According to Wowhead, these wolves are indeed Thrall's minions, and he's got the spell to summon them only in MH. Thrall in Orgrimmar or Outland doesn't have it.
I've been playing WoW for 5 years on the very same hunter, and only once did I take a half-year break from the game - and sure enough, ghost wolves were introduced and removed somewhere withing those 5-6 months. The only tame I curse myself for having skipped

Maybe someone could post this on official forms for either Dev's to fix, or make them tameable in some way or fashion. Or bring back tameable ghostwolves period like they said they would allow to stay ingame.
Besides it'd be perfect tests for hunters wanting to practice speed taming and all that. Tame the wolf before it dies!

Where is this bird?

Incidentally, while running WC otw to test out the debuff myself, I've found that Skum is now -Immune- to Beast Lore.
Anyone have a free stable slot to press Tame Beast at him? I can't imagine why he's immune.

Naralex's Nightmare
Puts the enemy target to sleep for up to 15 sec. Any hostile action will awaken the target. Only one target can be slept at a time.
This makes you sleep, and has an MC effect for the duration. Meaning you -cannot- take any actions, including Bestial Wrath or PvP trinketing out. In addition, he will only cast it when there are 2 or more hostiles about, meaning a solo hunter must have a pet summoned to see the effect.
This means that a hunter couldn't tame a mob during the mc+sleep, and even if it did work there'd have to be a pet abandon macro waiting. Back to the drawing board, I guess...

Hmm... if Thrall summons them, that's another strike against them being tameable. The
Scarlet Hounds in the Plaguelands are listed as tameable, but when you try you get an error message that says "That creature is already controlled". But we can hope for the best!

Hahaha, I wish I did. I started a new troll hunter just to get more beasties.

That's odd. o.O Never really tried it, but will go and check it out, seeing as I'm looking to replace one of my pets anyway.
Edit: attempting to tame Skum gets the warning, "Creature not tameable". :( Didn't really expect him to be, but it's still sad to get that. XD

The Jinxed Hoodoo Pile in ZG can cause you to go hostile to all for a short duration.
I don't think it lasts long enough for this purpose (15-20 seconds), but would be an interesting test to see if flips to hostile.

here is a thought...the only thing i can think of that allows you to become hostile to everything is the nagrand arena and the arena in STV. I also know that the hostile to everything buff lasts for a small amount of time after you leave the arena. As to how long im not 100% sure, prob not long enough for 20 seconds...but with some haste maybe? assuming you have a summon into Hyjal waiting

I'm not sure a summon to something Hostile would work though, nor that with those buffs that you can be partied, if I remember correctly.

The buff from the nagrand/stv arena while it makes you attackable by other players, npcs still are friendly. Also i'd imagain that even if you could get the wolves to be aggressive the bond they share with their master may make it impossible to do so. "Creature is already controlled" Though its worth a shot! Maybe blizz forgot to make the dire wolf like that.
Also the 2 headed bright blue bird in blades edge; beast lore says it is tamable, only problem is "Creature is already controlled" I have tested several cc and kiting methods, so far no luck. Anyone an eng that has gnomish mindcontrol cap that could maybe try out ccing the humanoid that spawns it? Or priest MC?
