Actually each dragon flight has a Flight-specific suffix

Red Dragonflight = strazs (m) and strasza (f) as in Alexstrasza and Korialstrasz
Blue Dragonflight = gos (m) and gosa (f) as in Malygos and Cyanigosa
Green Dragonflight = iss (m) and issa (f) or era (either) as in Emeriss and Ysera
Black Dragonflight = ion and ian/ia for either gender as in Neltharion and Onyxia
Bronze Dragonflight = ormu (m) and ormi (f) as in Nozdormu and Soridormi
Netherwing Flight = raku (m) and naku (f) or us (either) as in Neltharaku and Jorus

As for the strasz thing thats the Red Dragonflight only. The blue dragonglight usually have gos at the end. Kalecgos Malygos. usually. I believe theres a couple blues without the gos at the end. The black and green dont have a specific.

As for naming your devilsaur... I went with precious on my draeneis devilsaur! Haha. I love her. But... depends on what you feel is right Usually pet names just hit me heehee.

Since you're a night elf, one thing you could do is ask for the help of a friend who plays a human, gnome, dwarf, or draenei. Meet them somewhere, turn on your option for the Darnassian language, and /say some of the various "raptor-y" words, like "dragon," "fang," "Talon," and so forth. After you /say each one, have your non-elf friend tell you what those words look like in Darnassian to a "non-native speaker." You may find something you quite like that way.

Agreed, that is something I used to do alot, too.
If only the name would be "retranslated" to people of your race, so they'd see the "real" name of the pet when others don't.
