this is why. the small percentile of pretentious female gamers who have to make it known at all times that they are a female who happens to play games.

Image

its kinda like how trade chat is a small percentile of your server. take everything you read in trade with a grain of salt.

I know alot of girls that are gamers. Some are hardcore, some casual, and some just should not play. Most of the ones I know just want to have fun like anyone else, but there are a few that are.......well PMS 24/7 The few I refer to think people should go easy on them, let them win, give them stuff for free, are attention whores, talk more about sex then a 14 yr old boy with access to dad's porn collection, and are basicly arrogent, narcisssistic, fashonista bitches. When I run across female players like this I try to avoid them since it just causes a headaches and makes the game less fun, but if that can not be done I pray they are on the opposing team so I can atleast have the pleasure of headhshoting them as often as possible.

*nods* These are the type of girls that I can't stand. I wouldn't say they're the majority of female gamers, but since they're the 'loudest' they unfortunately give the rest of us a bad name. -_-

I don't mind saying I'm a girl in real life when people ask me sincerely, but I certainly don't go out of my way to announce it at every opportunity. I don't see why a gamer girl should be some mystical rare being when plenty of females play games in this day and age. They may have been uncommon in the past, but I bet males and females are pretty equally matched in numbers. Not saying I don't feel any pride in being a girl who's loved games since I could hold a controller, but regardless I just can't tolerate any attention seeking behaviour from the immature, selfish females that think they are better than everyone else and deserve special treatment.

Well, I try to be legit, I'm only "not" when my BF makes me bags or stuff, or he finds something he thought would be great for me... But I do the same thing for him... and he's bad at his money while I'm good at saving it XD. But I guess BF/GF donations don't count as "being handed too"... right?...

But yah, I will correct in raiding, and usually there is no problem. But "girls" who exploit their gender to get stuff are just... dunno, I guess if they meant to or not would judge it.

every girl i've met in game has some of the BEST gear, not because they are GOOD players, but because the gear is HANDED to them because they act 'so sweet' to guys.
Odds are they are probably dudes posing as girls. And many of the members of this forum are actually girls so if you hate them perhaps you could take your insults elsewhere.

o_0... My bf complains how crappy my gear is all the time (cause I get it myself)... but I don't exploit my being a girl... And if someone tried to gift me, It depends if they are doing it cause I'm a girl or not. I do not accept pity donations... unless from my BF XD

I despise the females who do this.

I earn my gear. I'm clowny on occasion (honestly? who isn't?), but overall, I know how to play. I don't flirt with guys to get them to pass gear to me. If I lose a roll, I lose a roll. I love my raid groups because they don't see me as "female," just another player, even though they are aware that I'm not a guy. I don't get special treatment, nor do I want it.

I have absolutely no respect for the females who pull the gender card for loot. This goes double for the males who pass themselves off as female or who simply demand gear because they want it and can use it. But that's a whole other rant.

I am just glad that there are as many females who DON'T use their gender to get pixels as there are that do.

I've never really been in a guild and probably about 5 people on my server know I'm an actual girl. I've never received any gear as a gift and I think I do ok. I think it highly inappropriate to actually engage in the kind of nonsense the original poster was saying bothered her so much in this thread.

It was about the resentment some male players have for some female players. Part of that IS about gear-whoring. I'm kind of liking the term pixel-whoring, since it includes more than just gear.

If we want to derail the thread into being about gear, I can advise Bullet to swap that mp5 gem for a spellpower-spirit one. :P (And you might want to consider speccing into Nature's Grace, which is utterly amazing.)

((I advise with the highest respect; you've done quite well for yourself.))

Gifts between couples or friends don't count as "hand-outs" to me. My hubby made Teigan the entire Swiftarrow set as a happy lvl 80 gift. Teigan financed my hubby's toon's epic flying. That's just being nice. :)
I've never tried to pull the "I have XX chromosomes so I'm special" card. It really wouldn't have occured to me to do so. And, since I play a female dwarf and a female Tauren, mainly, it probably wouldn't work anyway!
I think the "girls" that act so girly-catty and want special Princess treatment might, as mentioned, actually be boys. I've never met a genuinely female player that acted like that.

*cheers Teigan* Exchanges with one's significant other don't count. xD Hell, even exchanges with friends don't count. My friends and I tend to pay things forward; we help each other out with old world mats and such.

You're lucky. -_- I've heard a few on Vent before. There are definitely guys who pose as girls to get special treatment, but there are definitely females who flaunt their girliness for the same.

The dangerous ones are the ones who actually know how to play, but still expect special treatment. Ie. first crack at gear. There's a case to be made that they deserve it, hence the trouble with it turning into a gender issue. I'm personally happy to just see balance. If you're on the short list of good players, regardless of gender, then roll against the other good players equally. But don't expect the guys to pass to you just because you have a feminine voice...

Indeed not.

Quite happily, in the incident I'm thinking of, the guy wasn't having any of that. :P

this is exactly what i'm talking about.

i'm not insulting anyone on this forum, you all seem (the ones who are females, though males too lol) to be passionate about your class and what you do.

i've never pointed fingers.

i said everyone on my server that i've come across has been exactly like how Dul has stated here.

Like in my old raiding guild.... i heard these girls on vent.
they literally had the best gear in the guild, and pulled less dps, healed way worse, etc, than people with WORSE gear.

and Kalliope i 100% agree with you.
that's the stuff i hate ;/

Bulletdance, i wasn't personally insulting or calling anyone out here, i've never thought "man the girls who post here are this way and this way"

if i thought that i wouldn't be posting here, would i? ;p

As to the idea of an all girl guild my server has 2. One horde and one alliance. Oh Gods the estrogen flowing through there was something to behold! Most all the players from there were fairly nice. But if you happened to tick one off really bad then you had a whole nest of hornets on you. A RL friend found that out the hard way, I think he server transferred lol. I was in there for a little bit but seeing 20 "Grats" fly by whenever someone got an achievement got really old really fast. And almost everyone in there was an altoholic >.<

We've always had girls in our guild, though rarely single. Now we have 5 couples (including me and my husband) and one single girl, and actually our officers agree that couples are more stable and dependable members. Over these years there've been many cases when a single guy would meet a girl irl who was against him playing and he would quit. With couples everything is more predictable.

Well the age of people in my guild is probably above average too; most are around thirty and there are several in their fourties. So things described above, like a girl getting all the stuff for flirty voice on the vent, is something hardly imaginable :)

As for the city chats... Don't know, I've got only LFG on to avoid all the spam from general and trade :)

You and I must have been separated at birth. I don't remember when I first started playing Nintendo, but I was very, very young, and I've been playing ever since.

I don't go out of my way to announce I'm a girl, but there was one time in Deadmines that I was on my pally alt (male character, I don't like how Alliance females look in plate), and someone said, "Nice tanking, dude" or something along those lines. For some reason I felt the need to let them know I'm actually a woman, and they were surprised but in a nice way, and told me I do a good job at tanking. It made me feel a little proud, because I think many females have this reputation that all they can do is be a hunter or heal, and that simply isn't the case. I can tank, too, dangit!!! I just typically don't like to. However, in Cataclysm I plan on rolling a prot/arms warrior because I think that /gasp, tanking as a warrior sounds fun! :D

But yeah, I don't wave my arms and go "HAI GAIZ, IMA GURL!!LOL!1!!"

Ha! I actually went through something similar in Halls of Stone. Five female toons, but four of us were RL females (or at least claimed to be; it was a pug, though, so I can't imagine why anyone would have made that up). It was just cool how it worked out that way, especially since two of us were the healer/tank.

(And yes, warrior tanking is awesome!)
