I pray that it does. I've wanted that pet so badly...it would be incredibly unfair for them to retire it out of the blue.

Sadly they've done that before with certain pets - I'm lucky enough that Nevar has her Spirit of Competition - I love that little chinese dragon.. but I know a lot of people who pvp'd all day and lost out on him

According to a couple of Blues both on EU and US forums it's meant to be retired for this year.

I'm afraid that the Scorchling does not appear to be available this year, folks. The chest will only drop cloaks. The bag you get for doing it for the day has two frost badges as well as a chance to drop the Ice Chip pet and the Scythe. The question is, does it still drop the Scorchling? I'm getting mixed answers. >.<

I read the comments about it still dropping out of the chest so I'll continue to hope... despite everything. :p

The way I've understood it, it's a bug that the Scorchling still drops - which would in turn explain why it's been reported to drop from the chest instead of the gift bag.

I tried it a few more times and saw the blue enchant drop. If the old pet does still drop even by bug its exceptionally rare. I doubt it does at this point. Maybe I'll get the new one in a bag if I'm lucky.

Agreed, I did notice that the new pet does something incredibly cute though! He throws snowballs at your other party members

I thought of why the Scorchling may be currently retired.

Ragnaros is coming back in Cataclysm.

There may be a reason related to him that explains this pet's disappearance.

(This is absolutely just wishful thinking at this point; I'm crushed by the loss of the scorchling.)

When you use the Dungeon Finder tool you can select Ahune the Frostlord and when a party is ready it will teleport you directly to his room. It seems to be the only way to fight him now. On your first kill each day you will receive one "Satchel of Chilled Goods" which has a rare chance of containing the "Ice Chip" to learn the Frigid Frostling! The last few years you could get a Scorchling, a little fire elemental pet, as a rare drop from the chest that spawns after you kill Ahune. To get this either you are lucky with a rumored drop from the chest or it's too late because Blizz really did pull it from the game. >:( Now it only seems to drop cloaks, snowballs and some alcohol. There is also one more pet you can buy using the burning blossoms you receive for doing the seasonal quests... 350 for the Captured Flame: http://www.wowhead.com/item=23083#screenshots It's basically a tiny red wisp, but it's pretty neat.

As is evident by now, Ahune’s Scorchling pet of yesteryear has been replaced with a new Frigid Frostling, but the Scorchling might just make an appearance elsewhere in the future.

Just please stop with the unobtainable pets/mounts/titles. No one likes it except the people who already have them.

unobtainable isn't quite the same as 'no longer obtainable' but it's easier to type <3
Hehe. I know, I know. I'm not speaking about other pets/mounts/titles. But as I said in this case, the Scorchling will return elsewhere along with some friends representing the remaining elements.

So it seems it will make a comeback, just no longer for the fire festival. Anyone who did get him this year was very lucky I guess. >_<

well remmebr the big R himself Ragnaros is makeing a comeback next expack so i would not be surprised if it has something to do with him like a drop of one of his men or some such.

The new pet is actually nice for hunters!;) since it throws snowballs at your party members - when you're not in party he'll throw them at your pet;D

Well, I'm upset that he isn't available from Ahune anymore, but I'm relieved that the Scorchling will be back at some point. As long as I can get him eventually I'm alright.
