Dreamer was lost in the woods after being outed as a lycan when he picked up a strong, sickly sweet smell. Following it he first found a spot that looked like someone was performing some kind of ritual, then to what appeared to be a hoard littered with... chewed paper... not far from what appeared to be a building in progress. Out in the middle of the woods. Okay then. He had nowhere else to go so maybe here will do.

5. Freeloader. Some random dragon has decided to hang out with the pack. Who is this guy???? Grab the cheapest adult off the AH. Leave them at level 1. For bonus points, try sniping an under-priced adult.

Meilyr always had a thing for the mysterious even before she was turned, so finding a building being constructed in the middle of a forest immediately caught her attention. She managed to sneak inside to look around and was almost disappointed that it was going to be an inn. What's so mysterious about that? Well, except the large group of dragons now watching her from the doorway.

Fisher charged into the Faoladh clearing in a panic, only able to utter grunts, growls and whines while gesturing wildly with every limb. At first the Pack thought it was another Solanum situation, until they saw the scars on the Guardian's throat. Ushering the mute dragon into the inn the rest quickly scouted the trees for signs of pursuit.

9. Abandoned Cub. A tiny lycan-cursed cub was discovered by a pack member. Grab the cheapest hatchling off the AH. Level it to 5 when it comes of age.

Turned out it was a good idea to check things out after Fisher's abrupt arrival. Several hunters were found picking their way noisily through the bracken, each swiftly disposed of, only for Thermal to hear a faint mewling nearby. Seems the hunters had tried to make off with a tiny cub! Possibly from the same place Fisher had come from. Well don't worry little one, you'll be safe with us.

Day 12
Rejected Recruits: 9

Skin/Scene: Admiring the scenery led to a fortuitous encounter. You meet another dragon on your current hunt, and speak with them for a while. They wish to join you on your endeavours. Buy the cheapest adult dragon off the auction house and level them to 6; they automatically become part of the pack.

It was a beautiful night so Saros took some time to himself. He was pleased that the Pack was thriving under his leadership after the rocky start it had, but managing so many lycans was exhausting.
Carefully breaking from the treeline the Guardian sat and looked up at the moon, basking in its soft light and the light breeze.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" A sentence spoken in stereo. Confused and wary Saros whirled to face the voice(s) and came face-to-face(s) with an Aberration.
"Ah, sorry!" One head apologised sincerely, pulling back and lifting a hand to their chest.
"We come out here a lot ever since..." the other hung solemnly.
"We've seen you and others in the trees, so we kind of hoped..." continued the first, giving Saros a pleading glance.
After a moment of consideration Saros dipped his head in affirmation. "Of course, all of our kind are welcome in our pack. I am Saros, the pack leader."
"Thank you, Saros! We are Chi and Dor. Or Chi'n'Dor, or Chindor. Whichever's easiest!"
"And I'm Tailais!" A tiny voice suddenly exclaimed from beneath a bush, making them all jump. Another wolfish Veilspun emerged, beaming brightly at Saros. "Sorry! I overheard you guys chatting. Uh, room for one more?"

10. Honourable Brawl. A disagreement in ranking flares up and the two initiate trial-by-combat. Take two random non-leader dragons into the coliseum and exalt whoever faints first, as they were defeated and leave in shame. (Piccante, Sulwen)

"No, no, NO! Not there You're going to break--"
CRACK. THUD.
Sulwen's tiny hands flew to her face as the lumbering Imperial stepped on a tiny chair designed for the smaller breeds to sit in. Something Piccante herself had made.
"Well maybe if you'd designed this place to be bigger it wouldn't have been an issue!" Piccante shot back, mournfully scraping up the splintered seat. It had taken so long to make it.
The Veilspun huffed loudly. "What? I wanted to make an inn! I didn't say who for!"
"That Obelisk doesn't seem to mind it here."
Meilyr waved from the far side of the room. Which, relative to the Imperial wasn't that far at all.
"Yeah well, it's big enough for anyone to get in but only small dragons can stay!"
"Which is a stupid idea when there's so many types of dragon!" Piccante growled in pain and annoyance as she smacked her head against the low ceiling, her antlers scraping the boards.
"Oh for Deities' sake you're wrecking the place!"
"I'll wreck you in a minute!"
"I'd like to see you try!"
After a scuffle that shook the small building the roof was torn off and Piccante coiled in a quick spiral and threw something small over the treeline. Sulwen was never heard from again and the dumb building was torn down. Meilyr was disappointed that there was no longer a mysterious building in the middle of the forest for her to bum about-- she means investigate, though some of the Pack agreed that maybe something like this (appropriately sized this time) might not actually be a bad idea.

Some pretty fodder this time around! Almost tempted to keep Zalitz. Also never thought I'd ever pick up a meat dragon.

I enjoy reading this.

If you can at least tolerate the coliseum and can get into a rhythm it's quite quick and effective, and levelling first nets you more treasure with the occasional gem

Axemage insists that that is indeed his real name, chosen by himself for his aptitude for magically manipulating axes. Why magically manipulate axes? Mostly to scare off pests. Why is he here? He was seen as a pest. A dangerous one. With axes.

2. Romance. Pick two of your ready to breed dragons at random if you have any. Put them on a nest. The cubs will join the pack when they hatch. Level them to 5 when they come of age. If the parents would be exalted while they’re on the nest, wait until their nest hatches and Then exalt them. If nobody is ready to breed, grab a random hatchling off the AH. A secret forbidden child or sibling has been uncovered. (Regal, Solanum)

It was hard to decide if it was a surprise or completely unsurprising to see Regal and Solanum enjoying each other's company. For all her fears the Mirror seemed curious about the way Sol acted, and everyone guessed that the Imperial thought being a protective guard dog was something wolves did and chose to protect the paranoid Regal.
It was funny. It was cute. It wouldn't last.

Things had been going amazingly well. Aside from the brief fiasco between Daleth and Sulwen, Regal's odd way of protecting herself, Solanum's odd behaviour and Arrix constantly wrecking things, any way. Perhaps, then, Saros had grown complacent. Every lycan he'd come across had been worth saving. They're all worth saving. That's what he believed, even as he interviewed the latest afflicted dragon he stumbled into.

Pack Limits. When the pack reaches or exceeds 20 members, or you run out of lair space, it becomes too much to manage. Roll 1d12 for each non-leader dragon. If it's higher than their level, exalt them. Raise all survivors by one level. Repeat if desired. But things weren't what they seemed this time around. After a few days of continued peace, during which time a new inn-like building had been set up (with absolutely no one offering to actually run the place. what were they doing with it, again?), the unexpected happened.
Adara, the newest member of the Pack, started mumbling incoherently, seemingly in a constant state of distraction. She couldn't sit still, kept glancing around and scratching at her neck or wringing her paws together. The only legible words anyone made out was "This isn't right. Something's wrong." Pressing further yielded nothing. It was if no one were there. Her paranoia was worse than even Regal's as she kept peering over her shoulder, whirling around at sudden movement and loud noises and otherwise pacing restlessly to the point of exhaustion.
Saros suggested Regal try one of her rituals to find out what was wrong with the Pearlcatcher and after much coaxing the Mirror got set up. No sooner had she begun an incantation, however, did Adara suddenly lash out, eyes bloodshot and foam flecking from her mouth as she pinned Regal to the ground.
Chaos broke out then as Arrix and Thermal also began senselessly attacking, driven mad by some unknown means, their own strange actions missed as everyone focused on Adara. Blood and fur flew as complete mayhem took hold.
Sadly it became clear that there was nothing to be done and the three were put down, but the damage was done as Xander, Fisher and Axemage succumbed to their wounds. Regal survived but her fears reached a crescendo and with one final shriek the Mirror fled into the bush, Solanum chasing after her. They were never seen again, heart-breakingly abandoning their nest. In a surprise turn of events Xander opted to follow them; apparently in his time observing Sol he'd come to enjoy watching the strange Imperial and indirectly protecting his and Regal's nest so he wanted to find and look after them.

Absolutely distraught by all that occurred could do nothing but sit dejectedly away from the rest of the Pack as he tried to figure out where he went wrong. Once things had settled, the dead were buried and things reached a level of quiet calm the Guardian called everyone together and, with much sorrow, announced his departure. Whatever had caused this had knocked him so far down that no amount of support would placate him. As he left Phthalo, still believing in the good in him, followed his friend into the unknown.

As the strongest in the clan Daleth and Tyrion spent the night going over what the Pack needed. By morning the decision had been made.

Adamant on finding out what had happened new leader Daleth recruited Kauri to scout the range for anything suspicious. There was no way something like that could come out of nowhere.
For a good while everything seemed normal. Nothing out of the ordinary was found, no traps, no lurking monster hunters... then they found it. And Daleth heaved a heavy sigh. A clump of bushes bearing a poisonous berry. No doubt that clumsy hatchling, Arrix, had grabbed some without thinking and brought them back to the den where they got mixed in with the supplies. They'll have to either go through it thoroughly or purge and start again.

Phew! What a day. Regal and Solanum have to stay due to being on a nest, but will be exalted once the eggs hatch.

Day 15
Rejected Recruits: 11

Daleth took some time skulking around with the hope of rebuilding the pack after the devastation. Many of the known hunter camps had been torn down already and those that remained were too dangerous to sneak into alone. While prowling around the outskirts for signs of captives Daleth bumped into a Mirror who was doing the same thing. After sharing what each other had seen they agreed it wasn't worth infiltrating and Daleth offered the Mirror a place in the pack. She accepted.

3. Blood Bond. Pick two dragons at random. They are now in a relationship. If one gets exalted, so does the other. Their fates are bound together. (Tailais, Pietro)

Tailais sat in front of the new inn construction thoughtfully. It was an eyesore. Even once it was complete it was not going to be the most glamorous of buildings. She loved it. She'd always seen beauty in things others saw none in so this place suited her fine.
"What if we added a balcony for people to eat out on?" Pietro, the garishly bright Ridgeback, mused to himself, unaware that the Veilspun was there. "Wait no, there's nowhere good to put it. Not without putting up a lot of support beams."
That much support would be hideous.
It was a perfect idea.
Tailais flitted up to the giant dragon and began discussing "improvements" for the inn. No one else had claimed it yet since Sulwen was literally kicked out. Why not them?

The totally not noticeable sounds of construction definitely did not get Otora's attention. She certainly isn't here because she was interested in knowing what was going on.
Who are we kidding, who wouldn't be curious about a construction in the middle of a forest? Otora was legitimately interested in the building however and decided whoever was making it needed a proper architect.

There was a lot of traffic in the strange inn lately. Meilyr supposed that was rather mysterious. What was more mysterious though was why there was shouting going on upstairs.
Eh, no point investigating. She could hear them clearly from here. The new Guardian lady was screaming about lack of safety and that the building was not "up to code", whatever that means. Pietro bellowed that it was creative and artistic, unique even. Tailais could barely be made out but the buzzing was equally irate.
"Look, there's absolutely zero support here!" Otora's muffled voice yelled from almost directly overhead, followed by a series of thumps and a cracking sound. Oh boy, that sounded like it could collapse at any moment.

Interlude

The orphaned nest hatched, revealing three healthy pups. It was a community effort to tend to the nest and as such was a community effort naming the hatchlings, with mixed results.

Snakeeyes, Gwaun and Bone join the family!

Day 17
Failed recruits: 7

While patrolling the range Daleth was surprised by the sudden appearance of another lycan lurking in the bushes, a sinister look in her eyes. After a quick and wary exchange the stranger introduced themselves as Tibjir, a self-proclaimed monster hunter hunter. As in, she hunts monster hunters. She had decided that the new inn would be the perfect place to stay if they'd have her.
Not because it was the perfect hideout but because it was so obnoxiously noticeable that it made the perfect trap. Really, it was surprising the hunters hadn't found them already.

20. Festival! The pack celebrates their continued survival, or the moon etc, with a festival! Roll a 4 sided dice for a blessing.
1. Your dragons are filled with vigour while celebrating! Randomize 5 dragons, they gain an extra life!
2. Other lycans are attracted to the festival! Roll 1d6 and buy that number of the cheapest dragons from the auction house for your pack.
3. Your dragons wrestle each other in celebration! Level up all dragons lower than level 5 until they reach level 5. Dragons are invincible in Coli and cannot die while you level.
4. Your leader is filled with pride in seeing the pack thrive. They gain an extra life.

With the recent tragedy of the poisoning, but also the first nest hatched within the Pack, Daleth decided it was time to raise everyone's spirits. Despite it all, they were thriving. The Pack was growing, they had a (questionable) place to live and as yet they hadn't been found by hunters. Life was good.
A grand feast was prepared (outside, no offence Pietro and Tailais. There was more space out here) with the abundant supplies they'd accrued, and soon the air was filled with delicious smells, laughter and music. Sound and scent travelled for miles on a light breeze.
And didn't go unnoticed.
Four curious noses came sniffing in to see what the hubbub was about. There was a short moment of tense silence as the Pack sized up the strangers, but the festivities quickly resumed when they learned they were a wandering pack-in-progress looking for a good den and accepted the invitation to join in.

Failed recruits: 1

A group of travelling dragons accidentally ran into a hunting party while out in the range, and drastic action was taken. Thankfully they weren't fighters and most were scared into not saying anything about the encounter, but unfortunately Kauri got a bit too defensive and nipped the Obelisk in the group. As an apology for infecting him they brought him back to the Pack for safety when he turned.

There was no shortage of snickering at his ironic name.

Ever since he was capable little Keen had been watching, learning from and helping the adults around the den. While this was helpful Daleth worried that he would turn out soft (if for a Banescale), so now that he was old enough she decided it was a good time to see how he would fare in a fight. Taking him out into the forest she instructed Keen to help the Pack by hunting, pointing out good prey and instructing how to take different creatures down.

Whether by luck or skill, the young dragon succeeded with flying colours. Daleth was pleased by his versatility.

I've reviewed some of my rules and made the decision to change a few. Most simply didn't state whether to level received dragons or not (they now do) and my Hard Cap now specifies adult members or no lair space.

Day 19
Failed recruits: 9

Progress on the inn was going surprisingly well for all the arguments about what went where. It was still a delightful mess but at least it was stable now.
While inspecting the newly added floors Tailais heard a rustling sound underneath her. Odd, this room hung out from the main building, there wasn't another floor to be wandering in. Curious, the Veilspun flitted outside to investigate and saw a still-dripping mass of tree sap.
"Oh, ah. Hello." Said a quiet voice behind Tailais, who whirled around to see a similarly diminutive Fae wringing their hands together. "Is... is this your place? I'm ever so sorry. I was chased from my old clan and desperately needed to stay, b-but was too... afraid to say anything. So I'd... I'd hoped I could secretly make a nest where I wouldn't be a bother." She paused, glancing around nervously. "Y-you're not mad, are you?"
Tailais pondered this for a moment, looking between the Fae and her nest. It wasn't completely hidden, but not in full view either. But really, what building wasn't complete without a wasp nest attached to it somewhere? "Nah, I like it." She said with a affirmative nod, the Fae releasing a held breath in relief. "Still better take you to our leader just in case."

"So what's this room going to be?" Gwen asked, trotting behind Pietro as he led a tour around the in-progress inn.
"The main eating area, of course!" The Ridgeback beamed proudly. "Kitchen will be that way." He pointed to a door on the opposite side of the room.
"Huh. Would have thought an inn would start with a reception."
Pietro blew a raspberry. "Pfft, that's so mainstream. I wanted to change things up a bit. Idea is you come for food, and if you like the food you can come over and get a room!"
"I... guess that makes sense." The Mirror murmured as they passed through said reception and up the stairs.
"Down that way will be the bedrooms." Pietro explained, gesturing down a large hallway. So large that Gwen was pretty sure it overhung. Interesting. "Rest rooms and facilities will be in here." He continued as they made their way down the hall. "And all the way down here..." He threw open the door to reveal...
"A swimming pool?!"
"A swimming pool!"
"Indoors?"
"Nothing wrong with an indoor pool."
"On the first floor?!"
"Again, shaking things up a bit." Pietro exaggerated a dramatic pose. "Why would you want to walk all the way downstairs and outside just to reach the pool? Instead, you leave your room and it's right here!"
"Okay, fine. But you know what it needs?"
"What?"
"A shark."
"...Marry me."

Pietro and Gwen are now tending to a nest of 3 eggs.

Interlude
The orphans have all grown up!



However!
Now that they are adults, this brings me over the 20 adult cap again. That means it's time for another EVENT.

"Why is there a shark in the swimming pool?!"
The doors to the eating hall/reception room burst open as a decidedly angry Otora came storming in, making all the patrons within jump out of their furs.
"Where are Pietro and Tailais? Who thought this was a good idea?!" The irate Guardian stomped outside, lashing her tail. "It was bad enough that they put the pool upstairs. Extremely unsafe! Now there's a SHARK in it as well?!"
By this point almost all of the Pack was staring at her as she seethed. Pietro wisely kept well clear as he and Gwen tended to their nest. Tailais was conveniently not home.
"And not only that but it's held up with flimsy support beams instead of a proper foundation. This is an extreme health and safety violation!"
To make her point Otora made her way around to the offending area, the room indeed overhanging the ground and held up by an absolute mess of thin sticks. It was a wonder it hadn't collapsed already. Unfortunately for her, that was when the triplets decided to direct their game of Chase in that direction. They managed to weave quite smoothly between the beams but failed to notice Otora, with Bone careening right into her. The force of impact made the Guardian stagger, bumping into the closest support.
That's when all hell broke loose.
Being the slowest Snake was luckily far enough away to see what was happening and was able to about-face and scarper. Her siblings and Otora weren't so lucky; Almost immediately the boards above gave way, pouring a torrent of water onto the group. With the lack of support the weight of the water, the shark and the dragons who had dared get into the pool all came tumbling down. Along with Starrynight's nest, its inhabitant oblivious to everything until impact.
Gwaun and Bone swallowed a lot of water and drowned.
Otora was crushed by the debris.
A limp Mirror was held in the shark's jaws as it thrashed in anger and shock, a similarly lifeless and blood-soaked Tundra laying next to it.
Kauri and Tibjir ran in to try and stymie the problem, only for the shark to get a grip on Kauri while Tibjir got crushed by Adragna after the Obelisk fell from the fallen building. None survived.
Amidst the panic the rest of the Pack either ran for cover or grabbed what they could preserve and ran to safety.
After that, all they could do was stare.

While levelling up the survivors of the disaster, Daleth and Piccante found a gene scroll! Gene: Good luck! They’ve blessed you with excellent loot. Put an apparel item of choice on each to mark as given a second chance. If you would exalt them, instead remove the apparel. They have managed to scrape by.

Salvage and burial preparation was interrupted by a blue-and-yellow streak zipping into the den site. "Hey, I was passing by and heard a loud sound and wanted to see what was going on and oh my DEITIES--"
The strange Spiral shot around hither and thither until coming to a stop by the destruction. "--You have a shark! Oh my goodness I love sharks!" She wrapped herself around the still-flopping fish despite all the warnings given by shark and dragon alike. "I'll take care of him. He'll be my Blahaj and we'll be best friends!"
Well, looks like neither of them are leaving now.

Now that Sunshine had largely come to terms with his new form Daleth thought it best to make sure he could use it and live with himself. Not every Turned accepts this fate. Taking the Obelisk out into the training area they began with a light spar to teach him the basics, then as with Keen took him out on a trial hunt.
Sunshine was repulsed by the idea at first, then almost lost himself to bloodlust when he successfully took down a boar but Daleth was able to coax him back under control. This will be touch-and-go for a while but for now Sunshine was doing well.

While out with her new shark friend, whom she had found part of the river deep enough to house him, Gleam went to watch the water flow in a rare moment of low-energy peace. When she peered over the bank however, her reflection seemed... off. Too pointed. It had a horn. Two horns? And the eyes were far too small.
That's when a Pearlcatcher the colour of the ocean sprang out, surprising the Spiral so much she got tangled in an overhead branch.
"Do not panic." He spoke in an almost distant, otherworldly yet soft tone. "I did not mean to disturb you. I was merely curious about the sudden activity in my river."
Gleam blinked. "Your river? Like, you own this place? Live here, I mean."
"In a sense."
It made no sense.
"Consider the river a part of me, as I am part of the river."
Still not making sense.
The Pearlcatcher turned to watch Blahaj as the shark happily paddled around in his new home. "I feed this land. My emotions ebb and flow as do the tides. I chose this form to best approach any who I should meet. And now we have met."
Gleam's brain went into overdrive as she tried to process this information. "Waaaaaait, so you're saying you are the river?"
"That is correct."
"Cool."

16. Risky Situation. A monster hunter has been spotted skulking nearby. The two highest-level dragons take on the task of getting rid of them. Flip a coin. If heads, they both survive and gain a level from the daring endeavour. If tails, take both of them into a venue matching their level and exalt whichever one faints first as they were lost in the attempt.

Unsurprisingly to everyone except for Gleam, since the Spiral arrived after the fact, the recent mishap attracted the attention of monster hunters. They had yet to find the den (somehow) but were seen uncomfortably close. Daleth spoke at length with Tyrion about how to best deal with the situation, coming to the grim conclusion that it was best to hunt them down first. There was simply too much to move right now, along with the risk of being followed. No, they needed to take advantage of not yet being found.

Together they tracked down the hunters, locating them just outside the range. There were only two. This should have been fine.
Should have.

The hunters were expecting the attack. No sooner had the lycans pounced on the pair did a much larger group leap out of hiding, severely overpowering the leader and her second-in-command. Fight-or-Flight instincts triggered. Everything went red with a fearful rage. Fur flew, scales sundered, feathers fell. Daleth and Tyrion gave fully into bloodlust and fought tooth and claw against their aggressors.
It was a success insofar as the hunters would continue to be unaware of the den and unlikely to scout further after such savagery.

But only Daleth returned, limping and bleeding heavily. She passed out in her nest with tears in her eyes.

For better or worse, news of the lycan inn was spreading fast. A few inquisitive passers-by stopped to look, but didn't stay long.
Honestly, in its current state no one could blame them.
It wasn't until a rather particular and well-kept (and haughty) Skydancer came in for a closer inspection. The water had since been cleared up with Baltic's help (it was part of him after all) as had the majority of the debris, but the glaring hole and collapsed room were plain to see.
"Oh dear, oh dear." she muttered loudly, pretending to be keeping to herself but very much wanting everyone to hear. "Such a shame." Before anyone could object to her now picking around at the room (ignoring the obvious yellow ribbons tied across the gap and door to indicate No Access) she faced the Pack with clasped, gleeful hands and declared, "So, what about a salon?"
Daleth was still recovering and too weak to argue, so everyone shrugged their shoulders and said variations of "yeah, sure."

7. Hunting Party. Pick two dragons at random to patrol the pack's range for trouble and supplies. Raise both of them a level. Roll a 6-sided die for each. If it’s a 1, exalt them as they were lost on the hunt.


While out scavenging suitable materials to repair the inn Piccante found Andrijan sat by herself at the edge of the river. Piccante wasn't great at the whole emotions thing but even she guessed that the last few days must have been hard on the Skydancer, what which her packmate and brother dying in such a... frankly stupid way.
"Hey." Andrijan merely twitched her antennae as Piccante came over. After an awkward pause as the Imperial thought of something good to say, she resorted instead to doing something active. "You, uh, want to help? Uh, help gather supplies for the Pack I mean."
Andrijan simply sighed and silently got to her feet to follow the Imperial. Together they made good, if slow, progress in their collection.
"Wow, what a haul!" Piccante beamed, wiping sweat from her brow. "That gave you something else to think about, right?"
...
"Right?" she glanced around to look at the other dragon.
Without a hint as to when or where, Andrijan was gone.
