Sure, some of them probably wouldn't be the best pet owners in the world, but I'd imagine they'd still be legitimate marksmen.
That may be, but letting them become hunters breaks the ultimate, cardinal rule: NEVER GIVE THE ZOMBIE A SHOT GUN! :)

He may be on your side now, but it'd only be a matter of time till he turns on you for that nice, tasty brain you have. Doesn't matter if yours is a feast or an appetizer, it'll still want to gobble it down at some point.

I'm curious to know if the guardian pets shrink at lvl 10 when they become "real pets" that mastiff is huge in that video it must be full size. It would suck if things shrunk after 10 especially for new hunters, talk about discouraging. I'd love it if pets were full grown as soon as you tamed them.

They may have scaling issues. Corehounds and devilsaurs shrank after the release of LK.

He does have a pet bar (pops up first ~2:56), the skills aren't greyed out... He doesn't actually use his pet (I mean come on, he melees!!! What kind of a hunter is he???) so I've no idea if the bar is interactive or not.

It makes sense to introduce that element slowly, I just wanted to point out what I saw in the video.

Hey, I like to melee as a hunter. Now in dungeons and raids, yes I range since that is where all my skills and dps comes from. I wish they had a spec for a melee hunter like Rexar. But I am stuck with being a ranged hunter as Blizz wants.

But when soloing or grinding pets, I melee as what I am killing won't kill me anyway, LOL.

Why not, there are 2 that I know of in-game now. Blightcaller was a Human Hunter till he became Undead/Forsaken. And in Shadow Vault there is a DK/Hunter with her undead bear right in the entrance.

I was hoping that for the Undead/Forsaken Hunters that when they tamed a pet it would get the affect that the 2 hyenas that Blightcaller has.

I'm really surprised about the purple tallstrider, I was expecting taurens to get one of the plain ones. My main, a tauren hunter, used to have the Lost Torranche and it's one of the pets I expect I'll retame when we get upgraded stables. I don't know whether to feel pleased that I won't stick out like a sore thumb with one now or disappointed because I'll be like all the other taurens running around...

I don't remember where I read it since it's a while ago - during the class previews, I think - but they're removing our melee skills in Cata. We'll only have autoattack with out melee weapon. We're not intended to be melee, and really, we suck at it. I mean yeah, soloing it doesn't matter, do whatever you want, but you know, the kills take longer and all that.

No they are removing some melee abilities, not all. At least thats how I read it.

I'd rather ask, why the Night Elf Hunters are getting a skin that's been in-game but untameable until now. ^^

I've been doing the facepalm too, when I read about forsaken hunters.

But, oh well, nothing we can do about, huh?

At least, gnomes can't be hunters!
I think they should be petfood instead of playable characters anyway...

So, what is your opinions of slowly getting fed to a felhunter...?

I think hunters should be like the rangers in LOTRO where they do have some melee but it's hard hitting attacks on long cool downs.

Oh well.. Feed me to whatever you want...

I'll come back from the next graveyard anyway.

Which makes me wonder if I have to go to the place you fed me to that beast or to where that beast took a crap afterwards...

I didn't like the rangers in LOTRO but maybe just because I messed my pet!

Can you imagine that I bought those stylish claws in Orgrimmar at level 20 and level 30 and used Gerethay as a tank while meleeing from the mobs back?
"I fight tooth and nail, just like my pet!" was my opinion back then... Geez!

Goblins get a lame starter pet too. They should get that armadillo-ish thing.

Did anyone see something about their skills?

Like, do they growl and keep aggro on them or is it just a question of style to have a pet running alongside?

That video I linked up above showed clearly that they growl. He started shooting and got aggro and every time the pet hit the mob it snagged up aggro. Definitely growl. Dunno about anything else.

The way I figure, the first 10 levels of a hunter's life are misleading to what the class is. You shoot and then you whack. This way, you get the feel of the class - ranged attacks while your pet tanks - right from the get-go. It makes sense.
