If your just starting out, it'll be a while before you hit that 100g mark. I know when I level new alts, I don't send them any extra G to start them off, bags yeah, maybe some spauir gear from other alts that be useful that I picked up, yeah. But that's it. By the time they see their first 100g (if I don't mess with going crazy with the AH buying/reselling or selling farmed mats) they are just about or already into outlands, and even then for me I rather go flight mount training. Unless you really know how to farm up the gold at low levels, I don't think a new player will have 100g by the time they hit 40.
lol this is true. I still remember when I was a baby hunter, brand spankin' new to playing wow. I finished all three of the 'Robot Chicken Beacon' quests, and got the cute little chicken pet. I was planning on keeping it, but then I wanted to see how much gold I could get off it.
So I decided to put it in the AH for a 'very high price' (lol) just to see if anyone would buy it, and if they didn't, I'd just keep it.
I put it in at a buyout of 100g. You can imagine my shock when someone actually bought it, and I thought I was supa rich lol.
Keep in mind, I started playing shortly after the release of WotLK, so even though I thought at the time that I'd made a bunch of gold off that pet, I know now that I sold it for less then it was worth.
Oh well, I need to go do that quest on an alt now so my hunter can add it to her collection

Well, well, the dual specc...
First of all, I always thought it ridiculous to dish out 7,000 Gold for fast flying in Northrend and dual specc. With three lvl 80s right now, that made me cough up 21,000 Gold.
Damn, almost 2 Mechanohogs...
It is pretty obvious, that some classes absolutely need dual specc and some don't. Therefore it is only fair to keep the price low.
A lvl 80 hunter can be specced as BM, MM or SV. All three speccs are designed for causing damage. One might cause a little more damage than the other, but in the end, if you hire a hunter for your raid, you know he causes damage.
A lvl 80 warrior can be specced as DD or Tank. So if you hire a warrior for the raid and tell him that you have your standard guildmate tank and you need DDs, he has to options: leave the raid or spend the 1,000 Gold and dual specc.
Is that fair?
Rogues, warlocks, hunters and mages are DD only. They don't really need dual specc.
Warriors, deathknights, paladins and druids may need a second specc beside tanking.
Shamans, priests, druids and paladins may opt for a healing specc to make sure they get some raids going.
Why favor hunters, warlocks, rogues and mages so much?
And this is without even talking about PVP...

Thank god, shelling out 1k for DS made me re-live buying epic flying all over again. Just in pieces.

Um, this is the beta guys, prices tend to be dropped to low levels to ensure plenty of people test out a feature. buying new skills costs 8c. I'm sure that price will go up.
Recite the mantra:
It's beta, everything can change.

Heh, me too. As one who hasn't mastered the art of Undercutting in the AH quite yet, this is a huge relief for me. I mean, I'm still wanting to grab Epic Flying, and I don't think that'll be reduced in Cata, still standing at 4K, plus Cold Weather Flying, plus...

Do loremaster of Northrend. I don't bother playing the AH, I just put up stuff I gather/make with Auctionator, which automatically undercuts a few copper. My main income is certainly not from there, it's from questing and selling all the quest rewards.
In fact, my horde druid just recently bought epic flight from NR questing + selling herbing/skinning mats I gathered along the way. Easy AND fun.

I have to say.. if you want to earn gold, you can. Over that past week when I was hunting for Loq', I was mining and zapping steam clouds. I earned over 6k from that time from selling the ore, the eternals, and I didn't even sell the blue and green gems yet. Yes, that was a lot of farming, but it can be done. Dailies can do well too.
If you can't stand farming (but what else is there to do when you are camping a rare spawn?) there are certainly ways to master a small bit of the AH.
Check your server, see if your professions are money-makers, and get to it if they are, or change them if they are not.
