You also get some stuff for StarCraft2, if I remember correctly there's a murloc marine avatar, and some WoW themed decals or something. It also allows you to buy online the same special things that are sold to people who are at BlizzCon only. That wasn't possible last year. They also said that this year we would be able to chose which panels we can view, so if two panels are running at the same time we can watch the one we like the best. Last year there was a WoW panel running at the same time as a SC2 one, and the later was shown, so we missed a lot of WoW info due to that.

Just a quick update - looks like a lot of the UK based stores are not taking any more pre-orders.
(well Game/Gamestation/Gameplay which are the same company)

Quote from Game: "Looking for the collector's edition? World of Warcraft fans across the nation have stormed GAME towers and we have reached our preorder limit. If we receive any more stock it will appear on this page so keep checking back!" http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid= ... -cataclysm

Play.com still has the pre-order button present.

I managed to snipe from GAME last night when it was £55 quid (Dropped to £50 with points which is the original price) before they jacked it up to £60. Seriously, an extra tenner for what? The StarCraft 2 Collector's was pricey (Price dropped it by £20) but was actually some cool stuff in it like the dog tag usb but the WoW one is standard fair with really only the artbook, soundtrack and pet of real value. Cards? Sides from the artwork, meh.

The one for Wrath wasn't so much, it seemed very meh compared to TBC. Felt a bit, oh crap we need to bulk out the time a bit though there was some neat stuff just not enough of it. The book however is a brute compared to the previous two (StarCraft 2 as well for that matter) and exactly why I've had problems getting the Wrath CEs to the states.

Indeed but I'm in the EU region so my friends (Ryai and another) needed me to buy it because of the region lock :) Paid me of course but shipping over there because of the weight has been worse than bloody Top Gears. Both their CEs are lurking around the house with my three at the precise moment as ideally I need another box large enough that could contain the brute (Ryai's came in a box so will use that one if I can) then providing it wasn't over the weight limit, find something secure enough for the books separate.

The joy of region locks! But then said region lock got me Lurky and a whole lot of people whining at me so does work out sometimes.

Ha tell me about it. As far as they're concerned we're an addtional money source and no more, but then I notice most developers think that. Sure you're going to get the Red Steel 2 Collector's! Wait no we changed our mind lol. Thank God GAME price honors though I know a few in the states won't do and given how even the standard price went up three times...

Heh yeah. I do wish they had blizz stores for all the regions instead of just the U.S cos i can't afford to buy a Authenticator with my poor studentness lol. Costs way to much to ship over here from the states and heck no one here sells the darn things.

Well Europe has a store as well (I got an Authenticator for Ryai here as she couldn't get the store to work) but then thats still a taaad distant. Way to miss sales oppunities guys like this minimal allocation and other sites STILL not picked up on it!

I've read this thread and am a bit surprised. Our Game stop took a preorder for the normal edition. We'd been paying on that in prep for the two Collectors Editions we were going to get.

The morning the CE was announced. We got a call and confirmed the CE editions for myself and my wife. There was no talk about limited numbers and all.

Heck now days they put out plenty. Target had 3 collector editions of SC II on the shelf. Walmart too. You can still find them on Ebay for right at shelf price.

The only problem about getting a CE I can forsee is you MIGHT not be able to get one at midnight on release day. I am.. but yeah. That's weird that all of your Game stops are running out.

Maybe I'm just lucky.

I have heard SO many horror stories about EXACTLY this type of thing.
My take on it?
They take your money and have absolutely NO intention of ever calling you.
It's bullcrap.
They did the exact same thing to me for each single CE edition fo WoW I've "pre-ordered" through them.
They don't care. You just put money down on the REGULAR version. They didn't technically "lie" to you.. other than that they have NO intention of ever calling you back about the CE. So you have no recourse against them at all.
It's pathetic customer service.
Niabi wrote:Ok, I am a little bitter about this and I'll tell you all why.

My husband and I went to reserve my copy of Cataclysm at one of our local GameStops back in June or July. I asked the sales associate helping us as to how I might go about reserving a Collector's Edition of the game.

He informed me that although they weren't currently taking any preorders for the CE at that time, I could put a downpayment on a regular copy and would be contacted later and offered the opportunity to upgrade to a CE when they were able. I then asked how many CE's his store was expecting to receive and based on that number, what guarantee would I have that I'd be one of the lucky ones to get such an offer. He wasn't sure on the exact number of CE's his store would be getting but that he could add a note to my general information on record in the computer system so that the store managment would know I was interested in one.

About a week ago though, my husband made a quick stop into the store to put another $5 down on my game preorder. He asked, at my request, about upgrading to a CE and was told that preorders for the CE had already been taken and that they wouldn't be able to sell anymore copies unless someone should happen to cancel their order (not bloody likely, I think).

I never received that phone call. I was never offered the chance to upgrade like I was told. I feel completely jipped :( <Sigh> oh well. At least I'll still get a regular copy of Cataclysm and get my 25 stable slots. I can be happy with that. I just don't like getting the run-a-round from people when I ask them for information.

Thing is.. It depends on whom it is.

They formally announced the CE edition. and 3 hours later my Local GameStop called to confirm with my wife and my own editions. I'd just rolled out of bed and we laughed.

The phone rang and I saw who it was. I answered the phone. "Hey guys! Yes we both want to upgrade our pre-book to CE"

They laughed.

Just like any other group of people. You get some really nice. Some real douche-nozzels. and most people fall in the middle.

Actually they do call you. However, you must have had at *least* $10 on your regular pre-order in order to get the phone call. I've done this for both Cata and Wrath and had no problems. Also, you have to be within their quota list of first "paid more than $10 down on preorder". I'm not sure if they tell you that, but when I asked my EBgames, that's what they told me and sure enough they did upgrade to CE for me the day after CE was announced after a call.

My *biggest* suggestion is to always put a pre-order down on a regular copy the week of an expansion being announced, and be sure to put more than $10 down (and make sure that the $10 is the min required for your store). Then be sure to follow MMO-Champion or WoW mainsite to stay ontop of when CE is announced. When it is, call and don't let up.

I never leave things to chance, I assume someone won't do their job and that I'll have to double check all their work XD

The above is smart. As I said I got the call 3 hours after the CE was formally announced and was about to drive to Game stop in the flesh to make sure the CE got upgraded when they called me.

but yeah. Check MMO and Wowinsider. They'll let you know PDQ and then make the call.

Yep, lesson learned, I suppose. I'll be certain to not make the same mistake next time around if I should choose to go for the next CE. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and it hardly ever works out in my favor when I do. I trusted in what the guy was telling me was true and was made a fool because of it.

I am sorry to hear the same thing happened to you too. The whole deception issue is just bad business ethics. Eventually, this will come back to nip them in the butt sooner or later (one can hope).

We put $10 down the first day and since have put another $10 down in the weeks ($5 one week and another $5 the week after) that followed so I knew I was covered from that standpoint. I was just unlucky in the end.

Eh, I've been so confused. I don't want to wait long to pre-order it, but I've been here so many mixed stories about people and their CE that I'm almost against ordering it at all. DX I don't want to be out $80, but I really do want that art book that comes with it. I'm fine with ordering the normal game and picking it up. I'm just afraid my CE won't get here on time as promised as I have heard before, but again I keep hearing mixed reviews.

Well, I can assure you that I put FAR more than $10 on my pre-order for WotLK CE.
I paid for three full-price CEs, in advance, before the release date was even set.
And the bastards still called and told me "we're sorry, they didn't ship enough. you don't get a CE... but we can give you a regular one if you still want".

I said no thanks, got my money back, bought the regular edition at Walmart, and have never set foot in that store again.
