Er... weren't at least some hydras always beasts?

I know the Azshara ones were changed to beasts after the level 50 hunter class quest came in, at least, and the ones in Sholazar are beasts.

Yes. But a significant number weren't, and have been that way since Vanilla. At least a few of those were changed to beasts just in this last beta build. The reason for that is what's fuelling my speculation

Well, fingers crossed then. Hydras and Basilisks are perhaps the most prominent non-tameables.

Beast or not beast?

I had the ghost hyra, but released it because it was so noisy! Constant sounds and grunts got me lots of complaints in raids so I released it and got my slime.
If they toned down the idle noises to a less frequent level then I would love to pick another up.
Lets hope that happens.

Hydras and Stags are the two creatures that I would die to see tameable. :3

Amen. I've been eyeing those dark stags in Ashenvale for so dang long.

Maybe this is why the ghost hydra are still intact? They figured they'd let us tame hydras in the future.

I'm all giddy.. I hope its true.

Oh I would love it if Hydras became tameable..I've always wanted one!

That and stags, horses, mammoths etc...

One can hope!

Same. I loved Gezz, but I wasn't quite that far in Skyguard rep to do her! It was so upsetting, I'm actually only just now working on my rep with them again.

I also missed out on Atha by just a few days. As completely stupid as it is, I was so upset that I ended up turning off my account for a couple months. ><(I know, overreaction, but of all the beasts in WoW, hydras are the ones I've wanted as pets the most) When I found out there was a tamable hydra -- not just any hydra, but a GHOST hydra! (he would have completed my ethereal pet family, since I already have the ghost saber and the grimtotem spirit guide) -- I busted me bum trying to get to 80... Only to see that they'd patched him into untamability shortly after I hit 77. If only I'd had another day or two.

As for Gezz, I was throwing around the idea of taming her for a while (I had the rep and the level), but by the time I'd decided to, I discovered that they made her untamable too. FML. That's what I get for procrastinating. /wrists
