I think the orange is my favourite too. So far I've still only seen the one orange one (near the goblin quest giver just inside the cave), and it seems to respawn as orange, so it really looks like the colours are controlled and not random. Fortunately that one isn't a rare.

I'm hoping they'll add more greens to another area (there's a green-themed area of Deepholm that they'd be perfect for), so there isn't so much pressure on that one rare mob.

Those are the only four skins in Wowmodelviewer, but maybe they'll create a blue one yet :)

Yeah, the problem is it's also the minipet dropper. It's going to be camped like crazy once people figure out how to reach it, and hunters will have to get it twice if they want the minipet as well. I'm all for rare colours, but that's just cruel.

In my humble opinion, and while I accept that there are people who really like the challenge of tracking down a super-rare skin, I would say that being able to have the pet skin of your choice > the extreme hunt. Greens by the bucketful, say I.

I kind of agree... This goes back to a discussion we had a good while back, about whether rare skins should be made common (as is happening with Araga and Clutchmother's skins in Cata). I think it would be great if Blizz had info in the tooltip about the original beast. That way rare hunters could have that info right there, but someone that just wants a beast of a particular skin could get the common version of it.

Anyway, it's a derail of this thread, but yes, I think accessibility of skins is a great thing. :)

i wonder if this means there might be a new spirit beast in beta i would assume so if they are going to continue with the trend
also i hope gyreworms become tameable with shale spiders it seems highly likely that we may be seeing some awsome elemental themed worms

Okay so, digging this thread back up because I've noticed something with the shale spiders. It's not 100%, but it's reliable enough that I'm calling it a pattern. Simply put, they follow the color of the larger crystals around them. Think of the ones you need for the daily... there are large orange crystals up at the front of the cave, and that's where the orange shale spider is. By the painite is where there are garnet crystals... and that's where the red ones are. By the amethyst crystals are the purple shales.

The same can be seen in the critter versions of shale spiders all around Deepholm. There are topaz hatchlings around glowing orange crystals... red by red, green by green, etc.

The only thing a little off is blue... there are blue crystals and clusters inside the cave and elsewhere... but it general means purple spiders/hatchlings. Maybe a future coloring. Who knows.

Slightly unrelated to the original post, but...

What is the lowest level Shale Spider? I'm curious to know how quickly I can get one once Wrath hits.

I haven't found any that were lower than 83.

I thought I had seen someone mention the possibility of shale spiders in Maraudon... I was just seeing if anyone could verify this rumor.

I had thought those were shale spider critters, rather than beasts.

There are critter versions in Maraudon, at least in the entrance (non instanced) part.

There's another green skin listed on wowhead:
http://cata.wowhead.com/npc=49857

Also, anyone know what it's second ability is? I know about the Kings buff, but I assumed it'd have another being exotic.
