Well i tend not to get angry about these things as really its their pet and they can name it what they want. ya know? :S I tend to get more angry about people with "trophy" pets than silly named ones. or pet skins you can't get anymore. Just mainly cos they act better than me lol

Back in the day!... (haha, I feel old), when you used to have to tame a pet to have it teach you something in order for you to teach it to your pet, I used to name my temp pets after another pet family. Cheetahs named Spider, wind serpents named Hyena... silly things like that. But I knew I wasn't keeping the pet very long, so whatever. Or, randomly, I'd name it TeachMeClaw or TeachMeBite. Either way...

I guess I really don't care about unnamed pets (sometimes it takes me a damn long time to come up with a name) and cats named dog and such. Things like Lolbuttmunch make me roll my eyes. But in the end, it's whatever. I guess the most it ever does is make me roll my eyes. To each his own I suppose.

I don't see a reason to rage over pet names. If the hunter wants to be lazy and not name their pets or thinks they are funny by naming a cat "Dog" that's their choice. I might just roll my eyes and move on.

I did have an all caps pet name: a crab named CRABBATTLE. I used him for PvP and didn't see any reason that he needed a serious name. =P

To note, you can report offensive pet names the same way you can report player names. If a GM sees a reason to change a pet's name, they are renamed Spot no matter what the specie is.

I like the name Cat. I had a wolf named Gary, though, while I needed to raid but Paranoia was still leveling up. He had the most amazing karma.

When I was wandering around Dalaran today, showing off Reverie (don't tell me other ppl with spirit beasts haven't done that!), I came across some idiot with Loque, who just had him named "Spirit Beast". If you're going to take the time and effort to hunt down a spirit beast to begin with, take another few seconds and name him, for Thrall's sake!

Another time, I went through quite a few level 70 heroics on my mage and warlock alts with a hunter who had named his spider after himself. He said it helped in PvP, with allies having a harder time targetting him, but it just seemed egotistical to me.

Oh no, that's a legit arena strategy. But I agree, it seems egotistical, even if it IS practical, so I don't do it.

I believe Blizzard has cracked down a bit on the whole "name the hunter pet after your arena teammate" thing, though. People used to name their pets the same as their arena healers and I think they decided they didn't like that use of it.

As for me...yeah, unnamed pets bug me, but I tend to leave a pet unnamed until I have just the right name for it. Usually that doesn't take too long, though. The one that just makes me /facepalm and want to walk away is "ImWithStupid." I can't explain exactly why apart from it being done to death. And yes, I do report inappropriate pet names just like I do inappropriate PC names.

Stupid pet and character names make me /faceplam, tspeacially those, that use double or weird letters if the name is reserved or taken..

Speaking of annoyance: this annoys me the most ---> :headbang: i dont know why! i just can't stand it;p

I'm kind of an English nerd, and while I'm not perfect by any means, I at least know when to capitalize proper nouns such as names. It irks me to no end to see pet names that don't begin with a capital letter! Ugh.

I also can't stand names that are just dumb like butteater or imwithstupid. Yes, it's their pet and they can do what they want, but I'm also allowed to be annoyed by it. :)

Yeah, I can relate to being irritated by bad hunter pet names.

My Gondria spirit beast did walk around for a few days as "Spirit Beast" because I was waiting to find the right name. Now she's Zaniah and I'm glad I took the time to find the right name for her, even though she was an impulse tame, not a long search.

The one exception I have seen was a female orc hunter on my server, Idhitit, and each pet was named something along the lines of "withabat" or "withatruck." It made me giggle, and did show some thought put into the names. It also helped that I raided in a PUG with this person and he was competent and not jerky.

I die a little inside when I see a Loque spirit beast named "Imwithstupid."

I had seeing silly or offensive names on pets.

I saw some hunter with a wolf named "LilSexSoul". Just...what?

The ones named "Dog" "Cat" and "Bob" make me face-palm a little.

I'm honestly completely tired of seeing Skoll named "Sparky". The first one was cute, the 10th one....I get it. He makes zappy noises.... :|

I don't mind seeing the occasional cute, funny name. One thing that tweaks me is people RPing as a "traditional" troll or something, like...supposedly a serious, in-character, lore-proper character...with a pet that's named after Pokemon or something silly like "Cuddlemuffin".

Sorry, I have trouble seeing your "vicious" Bloodscalp troll hunter running around with a turtle named Cuddlemuffin.

Now I don't think I have ever had a cat named "Dog", but my memory is fading with age. But I did have Sewer Beast tamed at one time and his name was Luggage.

But usually I try to use a name that is related to the type of pet. I have a Ironhide Devilsaur names Acutus. Acutus if the genus name of the american crocodile. When I had Skoll, he was named Dirus, for the Dire Wolf.

I will protest the naming of Bob as too plain.

Bob the sporebat is a cult figure on Nesingwary and he has a lot of personality. :)

Un-named pets bother me, probably because I have a name picked out before I tame anything, I can't say anything about all caps, I have Takk, renamed RAWR, but I felt the need to make it jump out at you, dumb pet names are the worst to me. I once saw a tauren hunter named Milch, and the 2 pets I saw her with were Honey and Cookies, I thought that was cute.

see this doesn't bother me at all....its the morons that clearly don't have a clue like bringing a bear or a cat into a raid...get a bloody wolf already you have 5 pet slots!!!

There are SO many other things in this world that should be bothering you... honestly.. let it go.

Repeat after me: it... is.. not... important.

Besides, it might be an homage to "Dog the Bounty Hunter"?

(By the way, this thread just gave me my Worgen toons' new names)

Of course it's not important. That doesn't mean we can't have a conversation about it. Sure it annoys me. For the moment. It doesn't completely ruin my day and prevent me from sleeping at night. Everyone has their peeves, even you. ;)

That's something else that annoys me -- non-hunters trying to tell me what pets to bring where.

Yes, bringing a tenacity pet to a dungeon isn't the smartest idea, unless it's just temporary, like if Call Stabled Pet is on cooldown, or if you *need* the aoe, like with the iron dwarf swarm event in the Halls of Stone (Daggoth and Scorponok rock that event!). However, not everyone likes wolves. This whole "wolf or nothing" attitude in raids is frankly really annoying. The assumption that I make is that if a Hunter isn't bringing a wolf, they're bringing their favourite pet, one that they've played with for quite a while and know how to use effectively in instances. I'd rather see a hunter who knows what he/she is doing with a vulture, for example, over some noob with a wolf anyday!
