I like the big fuzzy spiders, its the little ones I dont really care for. I know wierd huh? I dont kill them or any thing and I think its good luck to have one in your house....as long as it stays in its web....the moment it walks on me and I know it it had better get off me quick or we gonna have a problem lol.

Oh yes, I fully agree that the bigger and fuzzier they are, the less scary they seem.

If I were the type to get freaked out by spiders, I'd probably hate the skinny spindly ones more. It just seems that a big, furry tarantula is closer to a cute little mammal or something.

I just can't picture something like this being terrifying:

Whereas I could fully understand being scared of this: (I think it's pretty, but for the sake of the argument)

We have the brown recluse spiders here in Michigan and they are the most poisenous spiders I think we have here. They have been known to make people lose limbs with in 5 min of a bite. I know what they look like of course but because of them any little spindly spider gives me the willys.

I worked in a pet store briefly when I was in high school. (One of the small old local pet stores. My mother managed it, and she was having an affair with the owner. TMI? Oh, sorry.)

We had a guy come in one day who wanted to buy the single tarantula we kept. It had been with us forever -- this would have been a good 20+ years ago, when they were much less popular -- and I had named it George. Anyway. I quizzed the guy about tarantulas before I would let him handle it, and he seemed to know his stuff, so I let him pick George up to look at him. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but somehow George got dropped, or maybe thrown down (inadvertently) and ... anyway, no more George. I was in a lot of trouble -- not so much for letting an expensive tarantula die on my watch, but for physically attacking the customer after it happened.

Props to you Mania, sounds like the thing I would have done. Poor George. :( Tarantulas are so fragile and most people don't realize that. A drop from even only a couple of feet can be lethal due to the structure of their internal organs and how vulnerable their body weight/size ratio is.

Anyways, here's some more spider pictures I found:

This.

I've handled tarantulas before and found their cute fuzziness endearing, but I squirm and flee at decent-sized creepy-looking spiders. >_< (I've had bad experience with spider bites in the past, so it's not unfounded.)

Poor George. :/

You are all insane.

I hate spiders. HATE them. I kill them on site because if I don't they're going to eat me when I'm not looking.

That said, my main hunter pet in wow is a Spider, named after one of my favorite transformer characters i created, who is also a spider. On top of that I have quite a large number of spider characters within my original Transformes creations. I have have an entire race of spider people in my own scifi universe. I love the nerubian race in wow.

Real spiders? kill em all. make believe ones, love em!

weird hey.

Can't sleep, spiders will eat me, can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me can't sleep, spiders will eat me

Let me guess Black Arachnia or Tarantulas! Yes a transformers geek here too.

Actualy a neighbour of mine had three tarantulas in her house, they are quite interesting. But yeah fuzzy makes less scary, I'd still jump if there wasn't a glass seperating me from a BIG ass spider.
Well I wouldn't try to kill a big spider, I mean....well I think it would bite back, the bigger they are the harder they are to slay.
Oh that makes me sound like a monster.

No, Restore. Like I said, named after a Transformer character I created, I've got countless fan characters.

The bigger the spider, the scarier they are, again, all you people are crazy :P

Aw, spiders are good to have around, though. They eat and take care of all those other pesky bugs in your house, while keeping tucked away in their web in the corner somewhere. I recently found one by my kitchen sink, and haven't disturbed him/her so they can go about their business- keeping bugs out of my kitchen :3

Dulanie- that one picture is so funny and cute- it looks like the spider is smiling, even though I know it's just a little line in the hair.

Let's not forget having them in a garden to help fend off baddie-bugs.
When my mom and I have our veggie garden going in the summer, spiders are always welcome to move in and help with the management of it. :D

awww!! they're so cute!!

I love spiders. I actually have pet spiders, 3 of them. A Golden Knee Tarantula, Rosehair Tarantula and a Red Knee Tarantula. They're so much fun to watch when they're catching crickets or molting. :D

Aww, that's wonderful Talody! ^.^

Since it's semi-related, I'll post some pictures of my own Rosehair here. :3 That way no one will stumble upon them by accident and freak out. xD

Her name's Shelob:

That's a... Cute... Spider, Veph... Really...

Tarantulas are probably the only ones that I'll let within five hundred yards tough.

I am a bit arachnophobic. But I'm weird in that some make me flip, others I can handle. I used to love these tiny black and white spiders we had in our garden. I also sometimes would feed bugs to spiders. ( I er.. have a grudge against ants after that "ants in the pants" incident) But ones with skinny legs freak me out. I couldn't be in the same house as the "whipe your ass" one.

The jumping spiders look cute. Can they be pets? I've considered getting a spider pet but I don't want a tarantula because I'm afraid of the hairs on them. Don't they irritate your skin? Anyway, if someone could tell me about those jumping spiders I'd be happy. They have puppy dog eyes.

Hmm, I've never really heard of Jumping Spiders as pets...I suppose theoretically you could, but the problem is they're so tiny that they'd be hard to keep track of. xD
