the article on stormcrow pretty much reveals they do in fact lay eggs
Unfortunately the reptile assertion in that article isn't referenced and could just as easily be an assumption on the part of the (non-Blizzard, not-official) author. Damn, I was hoping for some official evidence. Even laying eggs isn't enough proof. They could be monotremes

what about the articles on kodobeast itself that has citation?

apart from being bulky and have the same shape of horns, a lot of mammals and reptiles share the same traits as well. IMHO even the word kodo itself seems to point out that the dev team derive the beast from Komodo dragon imho.

All shoveltusks look like ben stiller anyways. No, seriously. Go look at them.

Kodos have a (non-dinosaur) reptile/amphibian leg pattern, with the legs sprawling to the side rather than going straight down, but they also do have the heads of brontotheres. Except for when they're dead, apparently, because the heads of Kodo skeletons (Desolace etc.) bear little resemblance to the heads of live ones, suggesting early confusion in the art department.
The leg configuration explains why kodo mounts look (and I say this as Horde) so ridiculous when they run.
Our zoologist colleague also raises issues about Outlands/Azeroth convergent evolution. I'd suggest that there must have been contact between the worlds long ago, probably at the height of the troll empires - why else are there Outland model raptors, spiders and wind serpents in Zul'drak?

@InsectMan:
You raise a very good point. But while that much convergent evolution between the worlds does seem unlikely, I know of no date of the current animals emergence in outland, and we know that previous contact was most likely possible, I still wonder about Elleks. The Draenie weren't originally from Draenor (go figure that one) with the orcs, so who is to say our traveling "space goats" did not bring them with from somewhere else? stupid elleks.

On the one hand, they don't look much alike at all. That's not a huge problem (c.f. spirit beasts) but it would be a bit confusing.
On the other hand, it would really help explain why we can suddenly tame what are clearly elementals.

As an aside, I also find it somewhat unfortunate that we have another family with just four looks.

I like the idea of grouping the shale spiders and the gyre worms together under the same family, labeled "mineroids". Sounds excellent to me.

I'd rather they take their time and do something special with them, even if they're not tameable at this point. Some sort of magnetic field-related ability

[Tractor field]. Deathgrip for pets. I like it!

On the other hand, the expansion will release with like 13 flavours of beetles!
I know what you mean, though. There are only 3 sporebats, and I doubt they'll revisit those in a hurry. They didn't create any more skins than that. The coloured auras for shale spiders seem pretty simple and should be easy to tweak for more colours, but there aren't any more on the database. I don't think it'd take much to add a blue and a yellow and at least have 6.
But all those extra "rare" names that have been found by datamining have me hoping that some of the unseen chimaeras etc. will make an appearance and flesh out a few groups, even if it's with rare ones.

Wain and Anyia, that's freaking brilliant! "Pet" uses magnetic resonance, hooks the mob back towards the pet like the icy-grip of Death Knights! The possibilities are limitless. Talk about strategic CC. 1 - It's range is 5-10 yards shorter than our shooting range, so the mob doesn't get pulled on top of you for a Self-induced FACEPALM. The pet would have to run out a little ways at least if you're at maximum range. 2 - Pet Stay and Control Pet? OMG, Shaley, go run over "there" and yank that mob to that spot while i stand "here"!!!! Awwww now I wish it was real! Rhinos have knockback. Shale Spiders, Gyreworms, and other models in the "Mineroid" family need the reverse: magnetic resonance. Blizzard, get to work on this project now!

If you're on Beta you could always suggest it. They already have the mechanics for deathgrip (and "lifegrip"), so it's not an impossibility...

imho I rather have that sort of ability saved for fenstriders/tripod and name it lightning teether.
and on unrelated note we need an exotic that can blink like mage too XD

Doesn't Marticar, the rare-spawn fenstrider have something like that? Just another reason to make them tamable! There's still time, Blizz!

Oh man, that made me miss the old Warpstalkers.

*drool* So many beautiful beetles ...
You know, I think I'm going to make an undead beetle hunter. Maybe beetles and worms for a good corpse-y feel.

There's a list of rare names? I'm surprised that would be in the client. Got a link?

MMO-Champion's database. There was a thread on Petopia here:
http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=5657
If you restrict the id numbers to > 40,000 you still get 313 beasts:
http://db.mmo-champion.com/creatures/?t ... %3A-family
All they are are names. But you can guess from some of them what they might be intended for. That's how people guessed there might be a spirit wolf called Karoma a week before he was found

Gotcha. Thanks!
(I do wonder why the names are in the client, though. Localization, maybe? Yeah, I could see that ...)
