I was actually hoping for the ghost wolf skin but in combination with a higher pixel rate (think of samba the alliance lion model)
that one looks sweet.

or let me rephrase that

Think of samba, now image it being a wolf model (you still with me ?) and then it only being translucent and in the colors of the ghost wolf.

This is very true :/ Hopefully for you guys it'll keep it's original (And separate ID) sicne it was tamed under completely different circumstances thus not retroactive.

Should be relatively easy to determine, shouldn't it? Is there a way for a Grimtotem Spirit Guide-having hunter on beta to check their pet's NPC ID number against this new spirit beast's?

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Plus Korona was already listed with a high id # that is part of the new expansion. That should be good evidence in its own right. But you know, people can be like dogs. When they can't add anything positive to something, they at least need to leave their mark by pissing all over it.

I kind of figured it would go this way - simpler to add a new NPC ID and also avoids the rather colossal s*** storm of re-opening the spirit guide issue that would ensue if they'd recycled the original ID...

Now everyone gets what they want.

All we know right now is that the original spirit wolves have a different ID number, so it would be easy for Blizzard to just leave them as regular wolves. However, Blizzard could also change them to spirit beasts.

Considering that Blizzard hasn't taken away the original wolves in all this time, I really don't see them changing them to spirit beasts now...but that's just speculation.

Without confirmation by someone who is on eta with their ghost wolf, we can't be too sure.
At the moment, we're guessing no, currently tamed Ghost Wolves will not be turned into spirit beasts. Until we learn for sure:

Yes, but they were intended to be tamed originally, so it's (theoretically) a slightly different situation.

Until it's been tested, we can only speculate, so I wouldn't worry too much until it's confirmed one way or the other.

I don't know. Considering their "We don't want to let you customize your armor so other people can tell what class/spec you are" I'd think Spirit Beasts vs Wolves (ie: If you have a Spirit Beast, you're BM) could fall under the same vein.

Guess we'll find out when Blizz says something one way or another (or come Cata)

This is exactly why it is also likely that they could be changed. Only time and testing will reveal whether these puppies are going to be an exception to the rule again.

why's that? for pvp reasons. You can't have an model being two pets with two different functions in pvp i'm afraid.

While we can't be sure at this time, I'm putting my money on them keeping the already tamed Spirit Guides as Wolves, even if the new beasts with the same skin will be Spirit Beasts.

Omg, yay!! This is so exciting. I've wanted a ghost wolf for a very long time and unfortunately I didn't play a hunter back when you could get them. I'm very very very happy Blizz decided to do this for us hunters, after so many people missing out on taming the ghost wolf back when. It's a very nice nod to our community.

Part of me wishes the model was updated to be more smooth but you never know, maybe it will be. Either way I'm super happy!
