K, will start a post now and update as I go

Griffley you said you'd tried it with many pets already, could you let us know which ones do not keep buffs after death? I'll be testing some meanwhile.
Do Not Keep Buff After Death:
* Searing Rocs (Sparkle Effect)
* Fire Rocs (Sparkle Effect)
* Blighthound (The green glow is actually a "Disease Cloud" that deals damage, and vanishes a few secs after death)
* Ashmane Boars (The blue glow dissipates even if you kill them before they go Felboar)
* The Tainted beasts (Bat, Spider & Bear) in The Tainted Forest of Blasted Lands (buff/debuff; loses it upon death)
* Felscale Crawlers (Yellow Fire)
* Princess (Pink Ribbon)
* Rabid Worg (Green Disease Effect, Silverpine)
Do Keep Buff After Death:
* The Lone Hunter (Knife through head)

Going to check out the ghost wolves in Ashenvale again... doubt it will change anything... BUT
I did have another theory regarding these sorts of tames.
What if you entered a random dungeon, for example, the instant (or a split second before) a tame finishes? it takes a while for my queues to work so I haven't truly been able to test this, but wouldn't the second you enter a dungeon, the pet disappear from the main world instance, causing the sort of "despawning" bug that seems necessary?

The buff goes away on death--so if you do manage to accidentally tame one, don't make my mistake (or test in the name of science) and let it die, ever

I'm sure many of us would be most pleased if someone could find a working theory for taming the Ashenvale's ghost wolf. :p

Does this same technique work for the oil-stained wolves?
(Using the Alliance quest for the vanish aspect is tough for us Hordies)

yeah it works for the wolves too. I used the same technique as the birds except that you have to get the wolves down to a similar health (around 2k) so its the same amount of ticks. got both my oilys this way

Yeah Socks--that wolf is the reason I'd made a hunter. Imagine how disappointed I was when my wolf died and turned into a regular white wolf : /
I was like "AT LAST!!! ...oh. :*( "
I have been trying for about an hour a day to replicate it... even if just to look at him now and then!

Yeah, I just wish he wouldn't lose the ghost effect upon death x( -wishes I was around during Vanilla when the Grimtotems were tamable-
^Sounds so much easier :p

the crabs in swamp of sorrows dont keep their bottles, i checked the wood in blasted lands as well, the polar bears, the giant gorilla, terrokar moths, diseased level 1 wolves in elwynn with sickness, Princess (ribboned boar), the shiny flamingo's in barrens.
Might miss one or two, but im not sure.
It would be more help if you found a way to make beasts vanish without killing them.
Anyway, I am working on the ghost owl suggestion in Skettis.
I think this is possible so I am trying many different things, isnt going very fast because it needs alot of summoning mats every time.
After I found a way to tame it I will look into the ghost wolf.
Any more people tamed the Oiled Hawks? : )
I like screenshots

I thought about testing the
Mutant War Hounds (I think those are the ones) in the Black Temple for that very purpose. But if I remember correctly, I believe they are untameable. I know that there is a lingering poison cloud around them when they're dead, and I believe that the green effect stays. They're not listed on Petopia, though, so I think that I'm correct in guessing that they cannot be tamed.

Oh, don't worry about it at all. I misinterpreted your post. Again, this is a wonderful discovery you've made!

Btw, has anyone tried this method with pets that don't keep their debuffs after death? (Making them despawn upon death+tame with Revive Pet?)

Wouldn't this method work for the Oil-Wolf as well?

Wow!!! Nice work, Griffley!!!!
I can confirm that the
Silt Crawlers in Swamp of Sorrows drop their bottles on death, so this method
won't work for them.

The same is true of the
Corrupted Thistle Bears and
Corrupted Thistle Bear Matriarchs of Darkshore; they lose the disease upon dying.

I'm in Tirisfal now, I'll go have a look--checking now. He does keep it upon death.
