I used to name hunter pets rather randomly, with whatever came to my mind, but in Cata I found a funny bug. If you had a guardian mob during a quest, and then you learnt another rank of "Call Pet", it will appear that you can call the mob as a pet (it was apparently stored in a first empty pet slot). When I actually get around taming a new pet, I often call it with the name of the mob. Hence, Ashbury the Bear (after Baron Ashbury) and Tarenar the Bat (after Tarenar Sunstrike from EPL).

My Rhino, exactly like the screenshot above, is called "Totema", because it sounds ancient ish, I like it.

My huntress Baset (lioness goddess) has a lion called Maahes which is an egyption Lion God, meaning "He who is true beside her". Was quite fitting :)

A lot of my pet names are native american names like:
Cheveyo (spirit warrior) for my ghost cat from darkshore
Sheboygan (stream from the ground) for that new carrion bird with the blue glow, and also becoz i've actually been to sheboygan while i was in the US.. AND becoz it has 2 heads and She and Boy was a fun play on that xD

Melusine (mythical figure who is snake from the waste down) for my Jormungar
Polaris (brightest star from the Bear constellation or big dipper) for Arcturis
Fenrir (mythical wolf who got stabbed through the head) for the Lone Hunter with sword

I could go on for a while with 4 hunters, but I'll leave it to that...
Nice to read this topic. Creative names and nice to see there are more hunters who put thought into naming their pets :)
