Unless crocs have an AoE snare (which I doubt), they don't hold AoE threat like they used to. RIP Bad Attitude.

I'm loving the beetle right now...big, pretty, and really hard for anything to take a chunk out of. I also picked up a shale spider for some fun with odd talenting, so he's versatile enough to get away with using situationally in groups. Little squisher than Bailey or Bug with his current talents, but Velketor's been hero of the day a time or two in Stonecore.

So it'd be Beetle or Turtle, then Bear, then everything else I guess tank wise?

I'm using a warpy right now till 80 when I can get into AQ for a black/white beetle on one hunt, not sure what I'll use for the rest...

You mentioned aoe of the warp though but all I saw was a single target 'slow' effect...

The only AoE it would have is Thunderstomp, which all tenacity pets can use.

I think I may have originally said that Warpies have an AoE slow. Re-reading the tooltip, I realize that I was wrong. My apologies -_-

Also, don't forget the glyph to make MD have NO cooldown when aimed at a pet.
Makes AOE soloing really easy, since our own Multishot is all the AOE threat the pet needs.
(Thunderstomp helps too) :)

Oh, and turtle/beetle are the best extreme soloing pets still afaik.

ah ok ok my bad I just thought I was doing something wrong...

I've got a warpy, an ape, a turtle, a beetle, & a bear on my various hunts & I am finding my warpy is having a hard time where as the others seem to hold better personally, all spec'd same way too.

I love my pet Thor. I really haven't had any issues tanking with him.
>.>
<.<

Of course when I'm farming eels for leather I use my spirit beast. Swim around mding eels to my spirit beasts which kills them and heals him/herself depending on which one I'm using. I only really have to throw heals if I get some giblins or naga in the mix. If the eels start building up I use kill command and BW. The goal of course is to build a huge pill of corpses which I then skin. :)

But, for tanking something higher level and nasty Thor is my goto worm. I don't really use burrow on him at all, he keeps aoe aggro fine without. Besides with md glyph it isn't like anything I put down will pull aggro off him anyway.

I am having fun tanking with Terropene (aka Barret) Especially in Deepholm, with so many people, i have to stack up the things I need to kill and get them all on my turtle and MD to him, just to get the tags, and then whittle them down. Though i do join up with people randomly if theres a Quest mob that needs to be taken down.

It's funny to say, but in my opinion my spirit beast Ururun (Skoll) is my best tanking pet. Why? He has saved many dungeon groups from being wiped totally; after the tank died I just put growl on and heal and often the healer heals my pet as well. Even though it isn't a real tanking pet, it has capacity for being one. Actually I have never tried real tank pets, I just have never liked their talent tree. Tenacity pets might be good tanking pets in quests and killing elites but I can't see their use in dungeon emergencys. I'm not good to say if it's right because as I said, haven't tested them that much. In ferocity talent tree is many spells which help your pet survive longer - such as Heart of the Phoenix and Lick Your Wounds - whereas Tenacity has mainly the spells which make your pet aggro, aoe damage and take damage for others (Roar of Sacrifice). Tenacity still has some healing effects (that I can't disclaim): Silverback and Blood of the Rhino, but I don't see them as good as ferocity ones.

Note that this is my opinion, everyone has their own opinions, and I like them to have them to create good conversations! I just wanted to tell my view of tanking pets. :) Have fun with all your tanking and non-tanking pets! 8-)
