I've experimented with it, and there doesn't seem to be any way to Death Grip someone up onto the ledge. Tested from the bottom, from the other cave opening, from the green pillar, from the white pillar and mid-air. Mounted and non-mounted. None worked. DG popped and went on cooldown, but no actual gripping took place.
