I recently swapped over to be a BM and decided I wanted to get some exotics in my stable. First choice was a worm as I liked its ability. I went and got the blue Deep Borer out of Maraudon and liked playing with him. I had been reading about all the others that would look for and camp the rares that I decided I would try going for the yellow skinned worm Grubthor.

So I went and installed the addon NPCSCAN and off I went to Kalimador. I decided I would stop in Duskwallow first to see if Oozeworm was there. Then if not, head over to Silithus for Grupthor. In Duskwallow, I go to one of the spawn sites. there I stopped and spent several minutes trying to figure out how to set up the Addon to detect him. I played with the sound and added him in. I then went and added Grubthor. As I'm sitting there, all of a sudden npcscan goes off and there at the bottom is the indicator that Oozeworm is around. I got the same kind of rush that you all talked about... and imediately forgot everything I knew. I'm looking at the map trying to see if npcscan was showing where he was. No go. I start running around trying to spot him. Nope... Was in the guild chat that someone mentioned putting on track beasts... Duh... with that in place, I found him quickly. Tame of course was easy, but I loved the thrill of finding him.

That rush was so fun that I decided to replace the Yellow Sithlid I had with the sithlid ravager in Thousand needles. I know this rare is probably up alot but was still a thrill to hear npcscan go off and have him in my stables. :)

I could never get NPCscan to work properly for me, guess I was too impatient to learn how to clear my cache or whatever, haha.

It is kind of addicting, taming rares, because you feel a lot more satisfied with the whole experience. You gotta love that silithid in Thousand Needles- it was my first pet I camped for, and still love her to bits. :)

Happy to say that my cat seems to be working out just fine! I compared him to my wolf on female dwarf, and it's only a 100dps loss between the two. Take him with me on heroics, and I'm still topping the charts. It's a breath of fresh air to use something other than a wolf, for sure.

And I bet the two of you look good doing it, too. :D A matching hunter and pet is one of the coolest things to do, in my opinion. :B

I've camped Old Cliff Jumper, Uhk'loc, Mazzranache, the Strider Clutchmother, and Araga several times each. I also unsuccessfully tried looking for Barnabus and Grunter, back before auto pet-leveling.

I have a bit of experience camping. First I camped Araga, logged on every hour or so for a week to finally find her.
Then I looked for Loque'nahak, found him later - on a different hunter.
Gondria too. Found her, on the wrong hunter again.
Uhk'loc as well. He didn't take too long, popped up pretty fast.
Finally, currently camping Arcturis. No luck at the moment, of course.

On my first character (Female Night Elf hunter) I had the Striped Frostsaber mount, a silver tabby cat non-combat pet, and Bangalash as my actual pet. They looked practically identical to each other (white with black stripes). Back in the day when pets didn't go away when you mounted, it looked like I had a big cat family with me. I got so many compliments on my RP server strolling around Stormwind, haha. It's a shame they made that change.
