Actually as I said my Goblin who has NEVER done the uldum quests before as well she's a premade not an existing character, set the traps down where beetles should be. It was -very- hit and miss but aslong as I stayed IN the area where I knew the beetles were, they would appear- one even appeared briefly but when the trap faded it faded back too; it had never had the chance to aggro me as the trap disappeared.

You don't need to be so elaborate, Acherontia :p

all I did was go to phased area. Set trap down. Sit on trap. Bam, beetle!

Ok really it was;

Explosive trap- triggered, nothing: but was to far away! reset!
Ice trap- ghost!
Explosive; nothing
Ice trap; beetle!
explosive; nothing
ice trap; beetle!

But that's what she excels at! Gotta appreciate all the work she puts into this.

Sounds like fishing, except with ice slicks and dynamite :D

So... goblin fishing then?

Aaaaacctually, I do. Because when I set traps on phased mobs, it does not trigger. In fact, I tested this; I put down a trap on a phased mob that I could see from a distance. Trap sat quietly. I flew away so that I could see the mob: trap triggered.

It might work differently JUST for those beetles, but this should work for ANY phased mob you can see from a distance.

Clearer now? :)

Exactly my idea, considering that Ryai was using a pre-made goblin :)

Ah, interesting. Any other details that we should know?

You don't need to freeze the creature... If you can see it from a distance, and attack it, then when it reaches you it does not phase out as it is technically in a phase where it exists. I did this to tame one of the bone spiders to the east (or west?) of the Citadel in Icecrown which had been phased out for the part of the Argent Tournament quest I was on.

Amusingly, you could re-phase with those particular spiders if you simply dropped the quest. :D

Well I wasn't particularly thinking about that. But I actually think it's part of the dailies series, and once you get that far it's always like that. So I'm not positive, but thought I'd share anywho. :)

Nah, I've gone out there without the quest(s) and been able to see the spiders. :)

Hmmm, either way, I was rather proud that I figured it out without panicking, usually I would've been in a huff about not being able to see them :D. It should still stand to reason since this is possible though, that a trap isn't necessary, if you find yourself in a rush or whatnot. ;)

Sadly, they phased out for me in the places I tested. When they reached me they disappeared, so I used the trap at the edge of their phased area to hold them there while I tamed.

Hmm, those beetles are an odd case then, as the same thing applies to the phased tigers in Neferset (I think?). The Hunched Tigers that are 85 only, they can be targeted and pulled into an area where they technically exist and stay there.

I think why these beetles (am I the only one accidentally typing 'beatles' everytime???) are such an odd case/hard to get is they are not part of the original area. The original phase is with all four statues up, and no beetles or ghosts, so it may be harder to pull them out of phase compared to other creatures such as the tigers and spiders which are in the starting/original phase, which is the standard phase for all un-phased content. This I think is why you can pull them, because they belong in that phase which your in, whereas the beetles do not.

Oh no no, I don't mean the beetles lol :) I mean generally, phased mobs, if I pull them to me (out of the phased area) they simply reset, vanishing until they're back in their phased area. Might just have been a bug (no beetle-pun intended) on my end, though!

Is this including phased pets where they exist in the 'original' phase/zone, aka Starting phase, phase one, step one, etc?

I know it's possible to pull the hunched tigers long after the uldum series is done by simply having your pet snag them and bring them back, and I've done it with the spiders I mentioned, so I thought for sure it had to do with whether or not they were part of the base, even, un-phased zone, and that if you could see them from another area that was still on phase-one, that you could snag them and tame them without the vanishing.

Don't think it's been mentioned, but the very same beetles can be found in the halls of origination (at level 85, too!), on the way to the second boss, Earthrager Ptah. I told my group I was looking to tame one and distracted it into a trap out of the group, easy fix to my lack-of-turquoise-beetle problem.

An alternative that nets you a pet you don't have to level, at least. Not sure if all the colors exist, two of them aren't recorded for HoO in the database, and I haven't checked to be sure if that's proper or not.

That covers the turquoise and green, but the purple and dark blue are only found on that quest. :)
