If he really did it on purpose, you can report him for griefing and the wonderful site of WoWJackass.com can definitely be a new plaque for him.

this would be a VERY bad thing in my opinion, if we knew exactly when and where they would spawn, Non-Hunters would be there killing them all the time for a laugh and making us hunters upset, with it being random it makes it hard for them to be there at the right time to get the kill in, they would have to be extremly lucky.

They do that now so thats not really much of a difference.

yes, they may do it but not every time, there is the odd chance they spawn when your the only one around (like when i caught all mine) but if they know the spawn time there will always be people there waiting.

Eh heh....you haven't seen my server. >->; We got the biggest amount of jackasses when it comes to rare spawn killers..... ._.;

I don't use a rares addon, just old school /tar macro... and I don't hang around - if I don't get a hit then I play another toon or log off. Just don't have the patience for camping.

That all said however, I suspect the breakdown is something like

25% people doing quests
25% people farming ore/herbs
25% people aimlessly wandering - like as not they saw a shiny object or bright light nearby and were drawn in
20% poseurs stopping by to pose and preen with their very-special-pony
5% dedicated asshats who assume you have NPC_Scan and are actively trying to set it off

e.g. chances are that the person is not a griefer... and even if they are, I wouldn't call this very "griefy" griefing, more like standing a few inches away repeating "I'm not touching you I'm not touching you I'm not touching you..."

I almost always have my Madexx out, and I admit I've gone mining in Uldum with him as my active pet without realizing it for a while.. :( I felt horrible, and immediately switched. But it happens, heh.

However, doing it on purpose is pretty stupid and incredibly rude =/ People really will find any way they can to make others miserable.

It isn't about the times the griefers are there killing them (you can report them even on PvP servers)... it's about the times the griefers aren't there that makes me a happy one-point spawn camper.

I'll use Madexx, Karoma, and Sambas as examples... and everyone who knows anything has NPCScan now (Thanks to Mysterious Camel Figurines or Hunter alts)... Madexx, Karoma, and Sambas are all three located in very bad spots to "camp"... most of the time you are going to get lucky if you tame one of them, because if you are on the other side of the map you aren't seeing what is happening over at the other spawn points... and by the time you get over there... you will not see any clues on whether or not a spawn has happened.

As much farming as Uldum and Twilight Highlands have going on at anytime of the day (or night) there is almost always someone flying by a spawn point of one of them about every 10-20sec... well... on my server anyway. So like I said... you are going to have to be at the right place at the right time... I don't see how that is "better" then having one (or even two if the points are relatively close together) spawn point on a static timer (and static spawnpoint to color spawn for Madexx). I would be willing to suffer through griefers if I could maybe login in the middle of the night a week or so after the novelty of killing them wears off and tame one.

But that is just me... camping Madexx for a certain color over a month will make you think twice about how things might be "bad" for hunters if something like that was implemented.

Sadly, your not the only one. During my camp for Karoma, I logged in just in time to see another hunter tame him, then rename him Karoma, move him to a spawn point, then hide somewhere to watch the other poor hunters freak out. I hate rude people. -.-

You don't need NPC_Scan to be successful with rares; many hunters like myself get their rares early on simply by logging in / checking / log off.

There is no "one right way" to do it. :)

We had a good amount on SC and I suspect FM is one of the kinder servers, but there are always jackasses.

That said, Sambas is cool but I think I'd end up pulling out my hair trying to get him.

When I sat with Mearra to camp a spot, this troll ran up with Karoma flagged... named Karoma. Bleargh. Well, I politely congratulate him and wave, then go back to watching Netflix/listening for Sambas. Fortunately, I knew the spawn points and knew better than to attack it. Still, completely obnoxious and disheartening that it was a false alarm. Given that he left and began to antagonize Mearra later, I suspect I would've been wiser to splat his trolly behind. Maybe he was being playful, maybe not.

That said, NPCscan is incredibly valuable for those of us who may not be able to 'do it old school'. I do homework/chores/bake/cook and play with my cats while I park at a spot. Parents might want to go tend to their kids and I think it's awful to deprive someone of a chance at a pet because they have obligations and can't spam a macro. It's also nice because NPCscan et al have a bigger range than many distance settings and if I target a corpse, well, no sense flying over there if I'm not a skinner. At least I *know* and go putz about for 5.5 or 6 hours. Like everyone says, there's no one 'right way' and if you want to be 100% sure, have a macro, Silver Dragon and NPCscan.

Also, fie on people who rage at folks having pets out in the city and places. As long as you're not sitting at spawn points purposefully, you're fine 90% of the time. I might apologize (I once pulled Jadefang out in the Deepholm cave because my scorpid didn't have thunderclap and I was dying to 99 million Gyroworms or whatevers and she had thunderclap. Saved me, but I felt like a butt. Fortunately, no one was in the cave) though. I want to *use* my rares. That's why I leave the ones I don't want for other peeps. I love finding them, but I also love using them.

I just checked WOWJackass.com and apparently Drenden is #3 for 3> (asshats). I never knew it was that bad. I mean I noticed lots of them but I just assumed thats what all servers were like...I can't imagine what it must be like for you, Taluwen.

No argument that NPC_Scan / Silverdragon can be very useful; I can see how leaving it on and heading off to do other things would be good if you have the right personality; but for me it's just too distracting to have wow running. If it's on, I want to play dangit!

So for me it's easier to just check / log off, and try again in an hour or 2 (or if I have a couple hours to myself, which is rare, then I may check, play another toon, check again, play another toon, etc). Either way it keeps my search time to a minimum, virtually negates my run-ins with asshats, and historically always gets me my rare fairly quickly, so it works for me. :)

I don't think you have anything to apologize about; it's one thing if you go out of your way to rub it in their face, that is obnoxious - whether or not it sets off NPC_Scan - but otherwise no one should have to make a detour around campers to get to their quest/resource nodes or whatever. Even if they're just wandering around, they should be able to go where they want... with whatever pet they want - it's not like the area is private property!

I'm honestly surprised I haven't had this happen on Illidan yet.

Although, I've been guilty myself of being like "oh yeah... maybe I should put him away" a few times. The first being right after I tamed Ghostcrawler. I swear, I stood there with him out for at least a half hour while I pondered names. Then I was like... oh, snap... that would really suck if I was someone else coming to look for him, and put him away.

Additionally, I will occasionally give my tames the same name as their NPC form... because some NPC form names are quite striking to me. Again, not intentionally being a jerk, but Blizz's creative department does come up with some fitting names from time to time.

I think at one point when I flew up to check on Jadefang, Ghostcrawler set off the NPC scan of a hunter that was afk up there... he had an afk tag and then all the sudden started running towards the end of the tunnel when I dismounted to loot a chest. Not exactly the same, but kinda funny nonetheless.

Beyond that... I try to be conscious if I'm just standing around in the wild, but I have a lot of rares, so if that's the rare I'm toting around on that day, I'm not going to go out of my way to avoid every NPC scan on my wildly overpopulated server. Orgrimmar, other major cities, and Tol Barad are open season for whatever I want to use though, considering almost every pet in my stable is a rare of some kind.

Oh I know people love to sit in town and show off. It can be fun. While NPC named pets annoy me at times, some of them do have nice names. Whatever works. Although I really dislike this guy's skoll named NOTYOURS. Wow. That's ... pleasant.

And eek. :( That's not nice on the Loque thing.

You should have reported that yesterday. Normally I am very much against reporting names, but this... this has no legitimate excuse. Besides, reporting names in WoW unfortunately is anything but an exercise in futility
