I was going to post a better retelling of this, but after power outages ate my post three times, we're just going to do this quick and dirty.
I don't think I've ever rolled a baby hunter who didn't go on an epic tame. The LEAST epic one, my very first Orc hunter back when I was very new to the game, stalked a Corrupted Scorpid for an hour-- picking off things around it so I could ding 11 and tame it. Dwarfs? Off to Durotar to tame a raptor. Nelf? The Barrens! Troll? Elwynn Forest for a spider. Tauren?
Duskstalker or bust.
So post-Sundering, I hauled my newest baby Orc hunter off to tame a ravager. Oh, and I hadn't heard about the changes to the Alliance boat system.
You can laugh. Go on, I don't mind.
Anyways, it took awhile, but I was stubborn, and honestly the Alliance players didn't even bother me! (Possibly because the guards ensured I was dead before anyone could so much as target me, but whatever.) My reward?
Devotion is this hunter's favorite, and that will never change.

I levelled a troll warrior to 13 or so then ran my level 16 human hunter all the way over to the Barrens just so she could tame Echeyakee as soon as possible.
I'm planning on running over to Mulgore for Mazzranache as soon as I start my Nelf hunter and get her to level 10.

I went on my lv13 worgen fresh from gilnease treking across the globe to Howling Fjord for the Stormcrow.
Somehow this developed into an all black pet theme for him as his only other pet atm is a Black fox.
And a Friends nephew has a hunter on my account, a worgen. So he really likes dino's and wanted the OutlandraptorskinRED for his worgen...which of course is in durotar, so pre-running wild off we went with his pet spiter Bited...poor bited was one really abused decoy, with many revives and not one scrap of meat in the bag. Ahhh Bited...placed in the stables in ratchet. The Raptor was named Charger.

It's so easy (for alliance, at least) that it's ridiculous. You jump off the boat when it's nearest the hawks, and then get eaten by the sharks. Then, talk to the spirit healer and get a rez. For some reason, the rez sickness will last for a minute or less, and you will be standing on a small rise with a ton of dead Alliance and vrykul littering the ground. Wave hi to the dwarf who somehow survived, tehn walk towards the water until you find a hawk. You can get into Tame Beast range without risk of pulling a vrykul. Also, the hawk will fly right towards you, so no chance of evade-bugging.

Contrast that with corpse-running to Durotar from Theramore just because you want a certain scorpid. I've never been so excited to see the northern Barrens

Yep, named the arthropod after one of our stable masters. Already figured out who Vephriel will be, but still need to come up with a good candidate for Kalliope.
(In case anyone was wondering why I would want to name pets after the stable masters...)

Wayyyyy back when I made my original troll hunter, I just had to have an owl. HAD TO.
So I bribed my guild with extra dkp. They helped their leader's little hunter alt get an owl and they got some extra dkp each.
So while the guards were distracted, I carefully snuck through and got my owl. I really loved that bird.

Now I need to become a stable master, obviously! ... although I already had one person in my guild name his bright pink Tallstrider after me back in TBC (when pets still had loyalty).

The scorpid-running was fun. I got one of the little beige ones on Aloicious. I'm actually amazed at how nice it looks, and have been thinking of getting Kura one if he ever gets space for a scorpid (ha ha ha yeah right). it'll no doubt be a lot easier with a level 85 than a level 15!

I started the game by watching my little bro run around, and one of the critters he encountered was a "winter wolf" in Dun Morogh. Having just finished a DnD campaign where winter wolves kicked the SNOT out of me and my party, I assumed they were seriously big bads and was absolutely astounded when he said "actually, you could tame one right now if you could get over there ..."
Needless to say, most of day 2 of my little NE's existence was occupied running (and dying, lots) to Dun Morogh to tame "Brophy," who ended up raiding MC with me. I decided to reverse the journey as an homage to that hunter when we switched factions, and ran my Orc to Tel'drassil at level 10 to tame a nightsaber stalker, that I named after that first hunter. This way "Marit" got to see BWL/AQ. =D My current hunter (deciding to keep up with the trend ;p) set about an expedition for the rare white bear (forgot his name) as soon as she was able to tame him, and then fell in LOVE with the "trash" bear she tamed on the way (see him and the new incarnation of "Brophy" in my sig ;p).
Holycrap I just realized what my Gondria's name is! *runs off*

Once you get the hunting bug, you cannot stop.

I immediately went out and tamed Duskstalker and leveled a bit more to get other pets such as Shadowclaw, Echeyakee, Takk the Leaper, and Humar the Pride Lord. All on my human hunter haha!

Remember back in the day when you had to tame a certain critter to learn the abilities it had? I would make a cycle to tame new creatures as soon as I could. Remember going to Redridge to tame that boar there for whatever ability it had, at level ... so yeah I was pretty young to be running around. However, I didn't keep it ... once I learned the ability I got rid of it and moved on to the next. Remember going along the beach of STV out running gators and lizards to reach Westfall. I can't remember any pets I tamed 'at level' though that would have been difficult tames (either by location or just hitting hard).
Gosh I tamed so many just to learn skills ... that rare bird in Badlands ... the good ole days! ~ Obi
