That...thing...looks really weird. o_O
And yes, Rift is pretty fun. I'm a little bummed that dungeons take like an hour or two to complete (and the raids are like 3-4 hours), mostly because I don't have the patience for that kind of thing.

It's a very odd perception of a werewolf, though I really like it. As comfortable on two legs as it is on four, and semi-humanoid without being a human with fur.
Most WoW heroics I do nowadays take 1 hour minimum, so I think I'd be used to it. xD But the question is, does it have a LFG queue like WoW? I can't stand making a group by hand. >.<

Aye, it's got LFG, but the queues are apparently horrendous for DPS. Good thing is, though, if you pick a support class like Bard or Archon you can queue as Support and get significantly faster queues. ^^

I would honestly give this game a shot but I refuse to pay for a game and subscription FIRST before I can get a free trial. I think it's ridiculous they're doing that. And liking them on Facebook doesn't do crap either. A friend said they give out 3 day game keys if you like them on Facebook but I've only seen it given away once and it was for only a specific server and you had to play the Guardians. So meh.

For the second time Zed, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY THE GAME TO PLAY THE TRIAL. I pointed that out before already and apparently it got ignored. I did not spend one penny on their product to get my 7 day free trial.

Took me until now to actually look at the Rift races closely. I won't go into what has already been discussed, but I'll just say I'm not impressed. However, the Kelari look interesting.
GRRR I wish I had a PC/understood Macs sometimes. xD

I apologize if I came off abrasive earlier. I just dislike the spread of misinformation, especially on a subject that I was pretty sure had been dealt with. It's not really much of a "free" trial if they made you pay for the game.

In fact, it wouldn't be a free trial at all.
However, just to make it clear for anyone who might be lurking and debating on trying the game: RIFT's 7 day free trial works
exactly like WoW's 10 day one.
For those interested, here's the link to the free trial:

@Lupis: I actually like the design of RIFT's races. They're certainly more refreshing than the pixellated messes that WoW's races have become, for me. They sort of remind me of the style of Dragon Age: Origins, which I liked, so I'm content with them. They're not like ZOMGBESTTHINGEVER, but for that particular style, I feel that they did a good job.
Plus, you learn to love them when you see the next to none clipping issues and the fluidity of the animations. They could have done much worse, imo.

Oh, not animation wise. Animation wise they're bloody beautiful. O.O
Just creativity wise, heh. I really can't tell what the difference is between most of them. But then, I suppose that's nice if you want to play a human-elf on either faction.
I dunno, maybe I was expecting this to have races like Perfect World. xD Not like those were the best races ever, but I've always liked having the option of less human races. That's why I typically play the "beast" races in WoW - I really don't like playing humans.
Then again, I haven't seen how you can modify them in-game. Do they have more differences there?

When *I* started this thread, there was ONLY a 3-day trial available. It was a "free week-end" of Rift. that specific week-end, too. You had to play between those two dates: from Friday to Monday morning.
so it's not like there's always been a free 7-day trial version.

So my curiosity got me and I downloaded the 7 day free trial of Rift last night. YES it was A LOT like WoW even in general layout, UI and design.
I do think the character creation process was a bit much but at the same I liked the type of customization you could do to the character.
Some things were so much like WoW it was a quick easy pick up. Others however seems a bit over done and a hassle.
Not going into to much detail.
Play style the same and the graphics are "shiny and new" but .................... this is not a bragging statement but I play on one of the top 3 gaming laptops out and I had my setting set to ultra and was really disappointed. Hovering over characters including my own pet (which was an ugly kitty) made them look choppy with a white ring around them. Adjusting the video settings didn't change this and my graphics card was fully up to date so I know it's not on my end.
I went from level 1 to 2 very quickly, in only about 5 minute of play which surprised me. Watching TB's video it took him a while to level from 1 to 2. I also noticed that the total download was only 8.75 GB so it's not the full game and I am suspecting it's missing end game content since they probably don't expect someone to reach end game on a trial.
Overall ................ I will try and play again. I believe in doing things more then twice to give it a fair shot but for now this is not a game I could play long term or beyond the 7 days.

I think, as with WoW's trial version, that there is a level cap on Rift's 7-day trial account.

Yep, level fifteen.

Is that it, or does the trial version block any other content / activities (e.g. any limits on quest access, gear, chat functions etc)?

You can't go out of the early area, so some quests can't be done, but you can access the capitol and chat just fine. You can't join guilds or use the AH. Mounts are not restricted, but getting that much cash might be hard. But you can participate in rift events, quest and all such just fine, so it gives you a nice taste of the game.

Aha, so basically you can do whatever you want, within levels 1-15 (and their associated zones). Cool.

This, thank you. I never once said that the free trial had always been the 7 day one; I'm aware that it used to be three days and only on specific weekends. It is not now, however, and therefore the correct information should be passed along for lurkers interested.
As for the trial, it caps at level 15 and you have access to the zone of Freemarch. As of now, you can't leave that zone until you buy the game. However, you are given access to everything you can get and do up until level 15, including warfronts and dungeons.
Also, 1-6 is the starting zone, and then 6-19 is the next zone (Freemarch for Defiant, Silverwood for Guardian).
And yeah, you're restricted from the same things you are in WoW pretty much too.

Tyger, your post, to which I responded, is exactly the type of thing on this forum that a) starts flame wars, or b) drives people away.
Reread your post, and look at how your tone could very easily be interpreted as overly aggressive.
You may have been frustrated, but really, it was uncalled for.
