Aren't they classified as a 'primate' now? Per the game I mean?
They are, but they're using the monkey-looking skin and have tails, which is the objection.

Sides this is wow.

We have Whale Sharks with teeth and Orca's with spikes of death.

I know that, but bonobos are my favorite primate and it just irks me to see them looking like a monkey. The bonobo stuffed animal sitting on my desk at work agrees.

A fair enough objection, I guess there aren't too many zoologist employed at Blizzard. Perhaps they should have one, or at least one that checks over wikipedia once a decade

Blizzard just likes reusing existing models and putting new art on them. It's easier. *points at sea horses*

So I figured this would probably be best here, rather than making a whole new topic...

Flying through wetlands, and noticed the highland lashtails have a new look!

It's actually, less about easy and more about model memory efficiencies. Trust me, most of the artist would rather be given the ability to create a new model and skin it, than reuse an existing one, re-skin it, and try and make it look unique.

Unfortunately, every hunter pet model needs to be universally available in every zone for every character to see. Global models as such are very very very taxing on the available memory bandwidth for WoW because of that. Adding in one simple "new" pet results in every zone having its "maximum" graphic memory load increased. In some zones (especially old world) this doesn't become a problem. However, in Zones like Dalaran it can be downright "crashing" as the models become so high in quantity that each persons machine requires constant swapping of the graphics and are slowed to a crawl or, worse yet, disconnects the user. I want more, true, new pets as much as anyone. However, The simple fact is that new pets come at a huge expense and asking for more "reskins" is almost as fun and much less taxing.

It is also why Cataclysm is a pretty brilliant idea for "destroying the old world". After Cataclysm happens, all the people who are playing within are now "upgraded" to the WoW: BC minimum PC specs versus the original Vanilla ones. There will not be a possibility of me encounters someone on the "original" Azeroth and have to account for what they may or may not be playing on PC-wise. Thus, the programmers and artist can code and create to a raised bar.

Somewhere on these forums there's a screenshot of a beast lore on one that's tameable. However, I doubt it'll be final.

Well I know I saw it - a red one, if I'm not mistaken. Might have been elsewhere.

Ok, so 3 hrs in Deepholm and this is what I found for new pet skins (NONE of the tameable):

Below are the 3 different worms, well they have different names, but it's the same model. There is 1 more, but it's a huge boss and he ate me twice and i didn't get a screen shot, and he is DEFINITELY not tameable lol. I think I'll leave him alone for now. :P

Awesome, awesome spider! You've probably seen this before, but here's another screeny.

Now, in the same area as the spider, um Crimson Chasm? Crimson something in Deepholm there is a thing called 'Red Mist' that shows up as a beast on your mini map when tracking beasts, but it is just mist. It does look like a tunneling worm with how the mist glides over the ground, but it's not. Beta is bugged with what comes up as a beast: Elemental Oversears also come up as beasts on your mini map.

I totally could have missed something, but that's what I've found. :)

thats a shame but as they are beasts right now i think theres a good chance they will remain and be tameable when blizz does their pass on pets!

I really doubt it Zangor, particularly because one was flagged as tameable previously. Those models scream elemental to me.

Same. Also, Blizz have a habit of flagging stuff as humanoid and beast, and then changing it closer to release. Heck, one mob was beast all the way from WOTLK alpha until Ulduar was released. :D

This skin has always been tamable at low level for ally who are brave enough to trek to Durotar to get one. Level 6-8 for the Bloodtalon Taillasher. :D

Yeah, but if you don't have to walk so far, I doubt alliance hunters will complain. ;)
