Pet
Brown Worm. I chose an Earthborer, which is found in Ragefire Chasm, lvl 13-14

Taming experience
Very easy. I walked in and the first mob I saw was the worm soon to be known as Coco. These beasts are exotic, so would not be accesible at level. However, if they were, it would be an easy solo tame even then. I noticed no tame disrupting abilities.

The pet's model and skin, overall and in different lighting conditions
I have Oozeworm aka Wibbles and love him to pieces, so I knew what to expect from the model: gigantic, scaled worm-beast. :)
The skin, to my surprise, is not really brown. I would call it more a dusky rose in most lights. In very gloomy places, she looked gray-ish brown, but mostly she was lighter or darker dusky rose. I think it's a lovely color and with her bright blue eyes, she's a most striking beast. :)

Animations and sound effects
I think that, aside from having the "invisible hand" jump animation, these guys have great animations, especially their swimming and feeding animations. Their vocalizations are little grumbling noises, not disruptive and wholly appropriate to a wormie.

Family skill
The worm family skill causes nature damage and reduces armor. Plus the effect stacks! I find this a very nice feature in a tenacity pet, as they don't do that much damage on their own, normally.

How convenient (or annoying) are their food requirements?
They eat bread, cheese and fungus. For me, this was not a problem, since I had a stack of honeyed lichen for Wibbles already. These foods are very easy to find from vendors, though and it doesn't annoy me to buy them.

Try tanking level appropriate elite with your pet
We tried to take down Demos, Overseer of Hate in Nagrand. He has over 65,000 health to my 9,900 and Coco's 7,000-some odd. Sadly, he neatly dispatched the poor little wormie. However, she did hold aggro extremely well the entire time even though she was 5 levels below me. We tried some less impressive elites, 67-68 with around 25000 health, in the area and had no problems. She held aggro like a champ.

Level it a level or two
I didn't, simply because I already have an at-level worm in my stables. They start strong and just get stronger. :)

Do a heroic
Nope

Do a battleground
Nope

Will you keep the pet, or consider another from the same family in the future?
I won't be keeping Coco. Wibbles aka Oozeworm, has a permanent spot in my stable, however. I might consider this worm after Cata, since she does have attractive coloration.

Did you learn anything hunter-ey from this pet?
Not really

Now I am reporting on Xephyr (accidently said it was Quell.... I got the names switch with my Paladin)

I went into the Badlands to see if I could find Barnabus. You indicated that he came up several times for me to tame, so I was going to at least look for him. I had set up NPCScan to detect him and started to ride through his spawning points.

With the first pass, I did not see him. A BG became available so I went in. After I came back out, I did another pass through the badlands to see. NPCScan did not go off, and I did not see him visually. I decided I wanted to check the Addon because sometimes when I put it a new search, it tags that list as cached. So I had stopped and opened up the Addon. Sure enough I see that it is tagged as Cached.

As I sit there looking at this, I hear that my Elekk is grunting like we are being hit. I thought wow what a brave creature it would be to try and attack me. Low and behold when I closed NPCScan... that creature was non other but Barnabus himself. I think he was telling me.. Quit looking at the Addon and come tame me. He must have just spawned, and I was right in his path. I also think this triggered my like for him. We clicked immediately. The worg model is not my favorite wolf, as I like the old world model, but I just liked him as soon as he was by my side.
I am a BM hunter.. Level 50 (51 now with this test)

* Try tanking an 80 elite with your pet
Only elite we took on was a ninja devilsaur that came up from behind while we were leveling. He was 4 levels higher than me and we gave it a good try. It did not take that white beast to long before he killed Barnabus, and then me. I could not outrun him. I did not find an elite we could try to take on.

* Level it a level or two
I also liked leveling Barnabus. As a BM, he held the aggro very well. What I found interesting was the fact that his health bar did not go down dramatically, even though we were taking on level 53 and 54 mobs. Only 1 time when I had him go after 4 of them in a row with out a break inbetween did his health bar go down to 1/2 without heal. Only stopped because I was low on mana. Never got him to the point where he struggled with a mob on the leveling part.

* Do a heroic
Did not do a random today.

* Do a battleground
This is what I have been playing lately. I set his talents to DPS, and loved watching him chase down my enemies growing red with anger. He does not have any special stun/slow capability, but it did seem to me that I was CRITing somewhat more than normal. I am a low level in the BG's right now, so I'm middle of the road with damage. I do like that the ferocity pets have dash, and he was fast to the targets.

* Check the pet out in different lightings
I loved his pretty orange/red color, and in the light, he was beautiful. When we got to the more dismal/rainy areas, he dulled down and the dark coat showed through more. Of course I liked him in the bright cheery areas.

* Check out swimming and possibly levitate animations (if any)
Doggy paddle sort of. More of a running walk under water. Not the best animation I have seen.

* Get a screenshot of you and your oddly fitting or entirely mismatching pet
Here is the shots that I have.

So, this was a great pet to try out. Didn't think I would like the worg model, but Barnabus told me right away that he was the one for me.

Well! A black windserpent, huh? I'll be sure to try that out... in about a week. I'm on vacation and this old laptop won't support WoW at all.

Awww...just wanted to comment that this is such an endearing screenshot! So much personality! That skin really matches your Tauren there, you two look good together. :D (Wibbles is still my favourite though :3)

Yes, I really liked that worm. Love the color. If I didn't have Wibbles or wasn't so fond of him, I would definately tame that worm for keeps. After the stables expand, I'm going to get her back. :)

It's easy enough to try this out yourself, guys. While you're in game, /roll 32 . That's the family number. If your number ends up on a family you can't tame (for example, Nether Rays for a low level character or Spirit Beasts for a non-BM hunter), reroll.

Then, count the number of skins under the family heading. /roll # , # being the number of different skins for that family. For hyenas, for example, there are six different skins, so you would /roll 6.

Doing it yourself has the advantage of you knowing whether the skin you end up with is one you've had before immediately, allowing you to roll again if necessary. So, try it out. I imagine Acherontia might be a bit overwhelmed with so many requests pouring in. Remember to post your results. =)

I had the urge to tame something new tonight, so I thought I'd give this a go. :) I used a random number generator to choose a pet for me, and my result was a White Worm!

I was quite pleasantly surprised as the only worm skin I've ever used was the Jormungar, but I've always wanted an excuse to try out the adorable old world skins.

To tame my new friend I had to venture into the Sunken Temple which is a bit of a nightmare for me. Being someone who possesses no sense of direction whatsoever it took me a good 20 minutes just to find the instance portal, then another 10 to locate the worms.

Nonetheless, I did manage to find them!

I had never taken a close look at the white ones before, but they're actually quite striking. The white almost glows in some lighting, it's very beautiful, and I just adore their red eyes.

He's got a lot of personality, seems very curious and fun. ^^

Oh, and I love their swimming animation. He slithers very fluidly, it's almost mesmerizing to watch.
