I forgot to mention that we shot a frost trap, had my friend that was helping me stand in front of me, he threw meat at the wolf, then the wolf went into the trap. The player position was me, friend, trap, then wolf. After 7 or so failed attempts we figured out that at level 80 with 0 haste that it work best to start taming at 10 seconds before the trap brakes. So far it looks like I'm the only one on Dalvengyr with it.

Does anyone know if you remove the oil stain buff with a right click?

EDIT: Does not get removed when you right-click it.

Doesn't wash off in water either.

:( Do anything special? Get hit with a certain attack? Tried relogging?

This is very upsetting.... I don't arena, but I don't want to be just leveling and something random happen to my BP Wolf.

Weird... I swore someone said they tried arena with the wolf and it was fine... I didn't think it would be after that since it pulls and buffs/debuffs off of you and your pet upon entering the zone. Hm...

Yup, I know Zed checked arena for sure and she said it didn't lose the oil for her.

So, I've been lurking these boards for forever but never made a post until now, I'm desperate for one of these wolves, problem is I'm horde, so if anyone on Black Dragonflight can help me that'd be amazing.

Well, the oil is a buff and buffs get wiped when you start an arena match. Same thing happened with Garwal as a worgen because that worgen form was a buff and if you did arena he lost the buff and turned back into a normal wolf.

Odd that other people reported that arena works fine. Just to be safe keep your special wolf out of arenas I guess.

Did it get the buff back when you left the arena?

This is very true but maybe I got lucky or something. I may have to run arena tonight and see what happens and risk the possibility that he loses it.

After all it's for the good of the Petopian family.

If anyone else is willing to arena test theirs also please do as it would help to know for sure if the oily wolf keeps it or not through that.

They didn't do it intentionally - Horde have plenty of Horde-only quests, the only difference is that this time, we just so happened to find a way to tame the pet and keep the buff. I really don't think it was intended, and they may even nerf it somehow, who knows.

So I don't really think it's fair to say it like Blizz intentionally gave only Alliance this unique wolf. It was a fortunate accident more than anything.

I'm not saying they did. Alliance on my server are non-too-friendly to Horde characters and one just recently /ruded me because I tried the tame a wolf they threw a piece of meat at, not knowing it wouldn't give them the quest item they needed afterwards.

You do recall that the white lions used to both be Horde-only, right? :P

And THIS pet's unintentional.

Aye, I know. But never being on the Alliance side (and hating the Alliance on my server to boot, even though the Horde can easily be as childish), I've never had to really struggle with certain faction only pets. If I couldn't get a pet, I picked the next best thing, and that was usually a common skin. It wasn't until I was 80 and tamed Loque that unique skins caught my attention, like the Oil-Stained wolf or the accidental Crocoslime and Ghost Hydra.

Understandable; no reason for the issue to cross your radar if you've never had to deal with it.

Just saying that alliance hunters have been equally frustrated before. :)

Aye, back when Eche was Horde-only, I went to go do the quest and saw a line of three hunters just sitting there waiting for a Horde to do the quest so they could all try to swoop in at once and tame the cat.

It might be easier if you just made an alliance toon and ran it out to Borean Tundra to ask around in general chat.
(you don't need a minimum level to jump on the boat that leaves the stormwind harbor)

Anyways, it takes a bit of coordination with the person doing the quest to attempt the tame, so to think you might be able to manage it by just standing around and waiting for a random person to start doing the quest is a little silly :P

My suggestion: If you have access to a vent server (say from your guild) and are allowed to bring guests into it, invite the Alliance quester with you to the vent so you can team up that way even while your on your horde toon.
As far as finding someone to help you, if anyone is out there leveling already, and they plan to do the quest anyways, most-likely they won't mind helping someone out along the way so long as they are treated politely.

When I had to do this on my troll hunter I even happened to meet a pretty nice person ;)
