I did notice that as well, makes it more changeling to get across. I think the challenge of getting across could count as the "unique challenge" when it comes to taming the pets. If you do fall to your death you end up rezing where you wanted to be anyway. I'm not sure if it does this all the time or if it was just a fluke.

The tricky thing is that you can also end up there when you die attempting to tame Kirix too. >_>;

That would be a major pain in the ass. Specially when the patch first comes out. There is going to be heavy competition for the rares.

Ive actually fallen through rocks for no apparent reason which was extremely odd. And yes you can fall and die in an extremely bad spot and spend alot of time trying to get your body which when you see a rare you want.. it sucks.

I've finally gotten what seems to be the legit way of taming Kirix down!
Sorry, no screenshots, as there was another hunter around trying to tame him from the rock at the same time....without a corehound. x_x Needless to say, that didn't work too well for him.
Prep Work 1: Go survival spec with 2/2 Mirrored Blades. Nothing else in the spec matters, though obviously the stamina boost helps.
Prep Work 2: Turn on Aspect of the Wild.
Step 1: Head west from Dante's area to meet Kirix. As long as you do not have a cliff at your back, you'll be fine. I chose to head up to about the halfway point.
Step 2: Engage Kirix. I personally used Tame Beast, since it didn't seem to matter what I opened with.
Step 3: When you get knocked back, hit Disengage at the height of the knockback. (I am kicking myself for not trying this in the first place on that first tame.)
Step 4: When you land, immediately hit Deterrence, pop a haste pot (or if you're a troll, berserking, which is what I did here), and start taming. When Kirix casts his toxin, he'll stun himself due to your reflection! Optionally, if you have
Mirror of Broken Images, pop that here as well before starting your tame.
Step 5: Hug your new glowspider.
So there you have it, kids: another option for taming Kirix.

There is an easier strat for Kirix. I've done it twice now and it's not reliant on haste at all.
1. Stand on skarr's old rock
2. hit tame
3. When he starts to cast the almighty YOUR DEAD SPELL. Jump and hit deterrence.
4. Hit tame immediately again.
If done right you should get the tame of just before the next almight your dead spell.
Also for skitter if you happen to be MM you can do all 3 traps back to back with readiness.

That still takes some amount of gear/base haste to pull off, though, or you'll get a second cast. >_>

Quickie update - the disengage method for taming Kirix can actually be done without a pot or even survival spec if you have enough haste on your gear! Well, and the TB trinket. I *barely* made it, but I didn't die and one-shot the tame.

I think my trinket kicked me over with the added nature resist.

So happy right now; I won't have to respec for him on live!

ya'll are making these strats way to complicated
kirix - stand either on the 2nd floating rock from the top on ur way to Fireplum Peak or on the ledge of FPP and the Furnace, tame beast pull(range check tb) det and tb again, u dont need any disengage strat, resist trinkets, respecing or jumping to stop tame beast as hitting det will do it for ya...
Skarr and Karkin...its only 2 buttons ss and tb /done - no pre tb and then ss and tb again, just a waste of time
Deth - you can abandon a dead pet
not one of the 10 new rares require any outside help or additional buffs dont waste ur time with corehound heroisms speed pots or haste stacking

Leth.. all these strats do get tweaked, and many were created in the early stages of the ptr so of course things with the rares got tweaked here and there with each and every build. They were changed and the way we attempted to tame them also changed.
for kirix, the second strat is if people want a challenge. Thats why I added it in, its the original strat because some people felt the rock strat was to easy and wanted another strat that they could sucessfully tame Kirix but with more challenge. And geez if kirix is really as easy as hitting tame beast, detterence then tame beast its not really a challenge anymore is it. The haste itself is for just a piece of mind, the faster the cast speed the less likely that something will come your way and essentially kill you
skarr and karkin, dont really see the difference.. hit tb, SS, then tb but before he used to not attempt to even use his stun before tame beast. This was just to make sure he was silenced and the detterence for the constant lava rocks that he uses just incase you have low health or are getting beat on by a rock (they have an annoying huge agro radius geez)
Deth- it used to be glitched on the ptr cause alot of people who I was talking to said they could not abandon their pet when it was dead. Thankfully I am guessing that was fixed and ill edit that for sure ^.^
with that.. outside help can cause more trouble unless your on the same page, its to help you get your rare faster. For instance the more sacfrifices for deth the lower the health she goes the faster you get her to the right tame. Skitterflame an extra trap if you break yours is really nice. On my server we help each other alot with rares which is why things can either go smoother or worse. The extra haste no matter what is useful, and corehound is needed if you do not have MM spec for Skarr/Karkin. His lava breath ability is essential to taming them in BM spec and the heroism to.
I am not one to agree with just having a 5 second tame cast cause where is the fun in that really

but if you do have extra haste gear laying around why not use every extra boost to help you sucessfully tame them. They may be a challenge, but with them being in populated zones the more edge you have the better.. you may only get one shot before other hunters come in.

Going to put this as simple as possible. I was testing rares in ptr. I just happened to bump into Lethotix on more then one ocasion and we gained a mutual respect for eachother. This guy has invested several respectable hours into rare tames. So I am going to give him credit for the things that I learned while practicing with him--Hence Dethtalic will be named Lethotix on my server as it is in ptr.
That said any hunter that needs help from a potion, or outside mechanic other then simple hunter ability is a wuss and barely deserves their ranged weapon,..much less their rare tame.
These are "challenge tames" developed for the hunter to earn something based on raw skill No borrowed buffs just Balls!
Every new pet tame is able to be tamed without help. Please stop crying about buffs and haste etc. Basic hunter abilites are all that are needed.
Im not delivering any strats except to my team at this point, and each member will have to solo tame their pets. If I see a flask, buff or help other then cross faction muscle to "ward off ninjas" i will scatter shot their tames and the tames of any other hunter I see my damn self. There are no wuss hunters in the H.U. of Skullcrusher.
Word to the wise some of the pets are made to be tamed easily by a spec speciffic hunter. Figure it out or add me and we will place you on rotation. If you happend to get to the camp first we will step aside heads up.
