When I tamed Savage by the Greenstone Quarry, (I had help from a Petopia guild member who alerted me to where he was. I was all the way at the SW end of his path trying to find tracks) there was another Hunter there questing and fighting one of the red tigers in the area. The flare made Savage also attack that Hunter and he quickly died. Savage was then in a freeze trap and I'm not sure who did that because it wasn't me so I hit tame and he was mine. There was another different class player there too and he had no idea what was going on.

I couldn't remember who it was that time but I definitely remember you helping me find Portent.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I haven't found even a single track yet. I've followed several of the beasts paths and nothing. Shouldn't I at least see a track to tell me I'm in the right place?? I've been out of the loop lately so I may be missing some information but I've read everything I've come across on the new rares.

They might not be up. >_> Otherwise, it's like any other rare; you'll have no idea whether you're in the right place or not if they're not present.

So you're just supposed to randomly wander around a zone and hope to find tracks? Are the tracks big or small? Are they the size of Shango's tracks in that Scholzar Basin quest?

Well, the maps help in cutting down the part of the zone you need to wander.

As for size, most are pretty big (like Shango's). Patrannache and Glimmer's are considerably smaller.

Maybe I'm just very unlucky. It just seems odd to me that I haven't seen a single track let alone one of the actual mobs. I guess I'll keep trying! Thanks for this thread and for all the work you've put into this. I can only imagine the hours.

Hee, thanks for the kind words!

There are many more hours put into this than have been seen yet.
And don't worry, you'll find one of them sooner or later.

I think I'm definately excited about this! I had a dream last night about tracking things thru the wilds of Pandaria.

Whoever came up with this, it was a stroke of brilliance. I love this idea so much!

I finally found 4 or 5 Hexapos tracks in the north eastern part of the zone. They disappeared though and I lost the trail. I might be phased as I haven't quested in Dread Wastes at all. I'm not sure that I like this new method. As of now it's incredibly frustrating. Not only do you have to get lucky and stumble on tracks but then you have to not lose them, hope you're not phased, hope the tracks don't disappear before you find the next one, and hope you flare at the right spot before the mob moves on. It just adds a bunch more layers of difficulty on top of the randomness them being spawned in the first place. I may change my mind but so far I'm not a fan of this new mechanic.

I agree....there are certainly frustrating flaws from what I've heard. I've haven't tested it personally. But I think it beats "there's that owl/cat/crab/whatever again *yawn* Wonder if anyone actually wants it?"

It figures that as soon as I complain I find my mob. I tried to follow the track direction backwards with no luck and before giving up I decided to go all the way the the south western part of his path. Sure enough I found and followed tracks but I kept losing him due to Mark not being on my action bars now that we have the glyph, lol. I wish I would have gotten screenshots but I was too focused on not losing him. Eventually though I tamed him! So Hexapos is now Stella, at least temporarily until I figure out if this pet is indeed a girl and if Stella will be the permanent name. I'll probably figure that out on live though.
Maybe if this isn't too buggy and once I get a few more tames under my belt I might end up liking it. It could just be that I'm slow to accept new or different things. And if this ends up making rares actually rare then it could end up being a good thing.

I think the whole 'rares actually need to be RARE' thing is kind of silly at best. With the sheer numbers in wow, unless something was just redonk 0.0000001 percent rare, there will always be a lot of people with it over time, even with something like a 72 hour respawn rate. It's just something that happens with regular respawns.
People should at least have a chance at a cool looking pet/mount/whatever without practically keeling over at the computer or never even getting to see it in the wild.
I'm looking forward to giving this a try once my PC parts come in and I get NOVIMACHINE assembled.
I mostly like that it helps keep tameables to hunters (So treasure and cheevo hunters don't get disappointed and/or feel bad, too) and lets treasure hunters have plenty of guilt free rares to smish.
Though, I am definitely sympathetic to the slow to change thing. I saw a dragon turtle go by with flame trails behind it as I walked past...
Do graphics settings affect your ability to see the footprints? Or can you just mouse over them to see the tooltip/sparkles?
