I think that this is a wonderful way for both sides to achieve what they want. Blizzard wants players to experience the world they put so much time and effort into creating and players who do immerse themselves are rewarded with being able to fly.
I tip my hat to Blizzard for this wonderful solution!

Just saw this on Facebook. Very glad they compromised and I think it's a great solution.

I'm so excited for this. I wasn't going to tear out my hair and wear sack cloth if they didn't allow flying, but I'm certainly happy they are. There are so many exciting new possibilities for mounts. Maybe we'll even see some new Garrison Stables quests where you have to lasso and tame rylaks or dread ravens or ravagers mid-air on your flying mount. There are still plenty of colours unused. That would be so cool

I'm ok with this! It's definitely a good compromise. I actually already have Loremaster, Securing Draenor, treasure hunter, etc. so all I really need are the Tanaan reps. I just hope they aren't as grindy as the other draenor factions.

People are going to complain about it being "too hard" or "too time-consuming" but I'll take this over no flying at all. If you want convenience, then work for it. A rylak mount is a really nice bonus too. It'll be fun flying over the heads of people still ground-bound because they won't stop bitching and actually do what's required

The Treasure Hunter required for flying will apparently be added in 6.2, and be 200 items. Don't get comfy yet :p

I love this idea! As others have said, it's a really great compromise. I feel like it's a fun way to earn the ability and I'm looking forward to doing it.

I have every treasure in Draenor that's been added so far. But I don't mind treasure hunting if I have to in Tanaan as well to get to 200.

Edit: Oh we already have an achieve for 200 actually, and I do have it xD It's called Grand Treasure hunter.

I have a min of half the treasures needed done, and 2/5 of the loremaster already done. I wonder if there will be a Achievement to track your progress, to unlocking flying.

There will be, the blog said it was a meta achievement, so once earned it's unlocked on all your characters. Our alts will be able to fly in Draenor at level 90.

ohhh even better... flying while lvling. Make it even faster. Give me an excuse to lvl up my alts.

While the rep grind part will be annoying, overall this is very good. Not sure if I'll come back yet or not, but at least it's a thought in my head again.

I would like to know, just how grindy the rep is.. Because if it's killings mobs.. it will be a nightmare... EVERYONE will be fighting for the same mob, and having so many people in a small area can crash the server.

Wonder what this means for post WOD for flying ?

i sure hope the mount you get from this is that reptilian Rylak we have been crossing our fingers for. it would be quite fitting and its by far my favorite. after all of the nasty stuff going on with them adding new mounts to the blizz store while tossing us wolf/boar reskin number 12, this will certainly be a very refreshing sight to see!

i am glad they not only agreed to re-add flying but also decided to do it in a way that settles in as a rather nice compromise between everyone. this is quite satisfactory for me. i'm sure some players will gripe about having to work for it now instead of having it handed to them but you had to work for it in BC and lk and players were proud of it. same goes for mop and their lvl 90 requirement + cloud serpent riding so i don't think the requirements are too extreme. I mean, come on, free flying for all your 90+ toons AND an awesome free mount? that more than justifies the extra grind to me.

my only gripe is that the factions required for the achievement look like a pretty dull apex/mob grind. anything that has me filling up a bar for apex crystals is instantly put on my hate list. but going forward, i would probably enjoy a similar flying method in future xpacks when the reps and quests will (hopefully) be more engaging. i think it will add a real feeling of accomplishment to things.

I don't mind this all. It forces us to leave the garrison and get out into the world, and do stuff. It gives us something to do and a goal to work towards. Sometime next week, I will likely renew and play on the weekend. I'm going to use my gold to pay for my game time.
