the option for MM/SV hunters (though more so for MM) does make sense and a number of hunters WOULD make use of it:
[Lone Hunter]
Your damage is increased by 7% when you don't have a pet active.
^the good idea
OPTION.
but Slickrock has a valid point: take away exotic beasts from BM and BM has
much less going for itself. i could see it still being ok to level with but a good number of people would switch over to the other trees for the high damage in the higher level zones. i cant see how giving a shot to BM will make it different from MM or SV. although i dont see much difference between BM and SV save different pets and damage outputs now (i dont think ill ever try MM, at least for a while yet).
i blame blizz for this. i say get rid of the three trees (at least for hunters lol) and throw all the talents into one big pot and let us pick want we want. in that happy little world, we would all have shots, pets, and traps and still be more/less unique ^_^
and if i may get a bit personal, of which i try not to do often, if i can put up with "BM damage sucks which means BM sucks" from a
LOT of jerks in game and in forums then MMers can put up with some "MMers dont like there pets", of which i dont think ive seen much of here at this website for wow
PETS called
PETOPIA. if there truly are those people here then they can go to a
HUNTER website and fume there.

MM is only called the "you hate your pet spec" from uptight BM hunters ya know. I wasnt talking bout giveing us exotics. Just saying if you take away MM pets its just going to make those BM hunters who think that more up them selves.

Slickrock, you do realize that BM existed for four years without exotics? And for some of that time it was the best dps spec (BM, MM and Survival have always been alternating throught that spot). That's why I don't understand the whole "BM can't possibly exist without exotics" attitude. Yes, right now it's designed with exoitcs in mind, and for Cata it's obviously still designed with exotics in mind. So just taking exotics away would be silly. But that doesn't mean that BM couldn't be designed without them. It has worked before. Why are you so sure it can't possibly work again?

Wasn't labeling you. Just discussing the common desires of:
A) MM hunters that want shineys
B) BM hunters that want (insert pet here) to be just as good as exotics

Everyone else is talking about giving MM exotics or taking them away from BM.

What will replace it?..
BW/TBW defined BM in BC. They have already been nerfed hard, and in Cata will be a lol talent combo.
Exotics defined BM in Wrath, and the common desire here is to take that (and the extra pet talents) away from BM.
So if BM can't go "Big and Red" and they'll be using the same pets and pet talents as everyone else, what else will make BM unique?.. I haven't heard any good ideas yet, just platitudes that "everyone should be able to tame any pet". Platitudes won't fix BM.
I sincerly would like to see the alternates for BM's 51-pointer (now 35 or whatever) that won't just be a damage boost, but would be something unique and spec defining. Without that, BM without exotics and with the coming BW/TBW nerfage will be pointless.

I proposed that idea quite a while ago. I wouldn't take pets away from MM, but, I really like the path Saturo suggested. If I have to go MM, I want to go glass cannon.
But I have to admit, I'd lol for days and days if Blizz saw this arguement, and decided to take away exotics completely, removing them entirely.

Slick, could you try to conglomerate your replies instead of multiple posting?

As a full time MM Hunter I wouldn't demand "Exotics" simply because it was nice for BM only it gave them something when they lost their DPS. Those pets are for fun, not for being the BiS pet. Ok maybe in Cata that will change but I wouldn't want to take away something fun for some people.
Also is it true that MM/SV get "Exotics"? I got lost reading all the posts o.o.

I would love to be able to have my Devilsaur out while in MM spec. One can only dream though.
Exotic pets is a pretty dumb idea, all pets for all hunters, make the last BM talent something better than what it is.
And I say that as a MM and BM hunter.

The only thing I can think of to replace the old 51-point BM talent is the dual-pet idea, which Blizz has nixed before. Also making the pets any stronger in dps is something that they've nixed. So.. not sure where else it could go.

A pet related talent/skill/spell would work and fit in with the spec.

I'd like to see you offer some ideas. That's pretty vague.
The problem is they have been removing/nerfing those, not adding them. So it would go against what they have said and done in the past year. Or it would be pretty bland and non class-defining.
You see, exotics are class-defining, and the dps boost from the trex being exotic is what help BM still be somewhat viable raiding. Take that away, along with the extra dps, and there just isn't any point to BM (That's a pretty sad statement on the spec, which Blizz needs to address).
What annoys me here is that BM is still the lowest on the totem pole, and everyone wants to take the one last thing it has.
Let's say that new "talent" allows your pet 2 extra attacks every 2 min. Class defining? no. 10% pet AP buff. Class defining? no. And so on. I don't think a signature shot would work either, because then you are just chasing MM.
Maybe they'll give BM Improved Revive Pet back as the 51-point talent.
As I said before, the only thing I can see as a talent would be the 2-pet idea, but every other hunter would complain about that.
I won't argue any more here about this, since it seems the majority here is against BM keeping exotics, but I can guarantee you that if they do this, which I doubt they will, I'll abandon every exotic I have, and go tame a bunch of cats and boars.
I suggest you take the exotics for all fight to the beta suggestion forums.
/ out.

It's not the fact that they are exotic, it's the fact that the BM tree has pet boosting talents and four extra pet talent points. Most "normal" pets still out DPS these so-called exotic pets.
edit: and i fail at trimming down quotes

Which again means the exotic pets have no other intention, but to show off and have fancy looks to impress yourself and others.
The one and only pet I would call unfair, since it is an exotic, is the Chimaera, which have in my opinion one of the best kiting abilities in the game. Then again this pet isn't very strong and you lose a bit of power with it.
I believe Marksmanship and Survival hunters should be very happy with the power that lies within their shots and character itself.

People keep making it sound like we want to take the BM tree as it is right now (or in Cata), then take Exotics away. That's not what I'm saying. I was saying that ideally I would like the exotics tag to go away completely; and furthermore, get rid of any family-specific special abilities to boot, and just give pets talent trees that we get to pick. That way we truly would have the freedom of choice to bring any pet anywhere we want without gimping ourselves, our groups, or our raids. I hear that's Mania's vision, too.
But until BM gets fixed (and I'm sorry, I don't have any suggestions because I'm not a game developer >.>), then BM should keep exotics. But honestly, I feel their final talent is pretty pathetic anyway.
I don't understand why people make it seem like I want to just rip it away from them NAO RIGHT NAO!!! I'm BM at heart, just like the rest of you, but I try to keep an open mind and hope for a time when we can bring our favorite pet regardless of whether it's a devilsaur or a frigging monkey, and regardless of spec. The other two specs have people who love their pets just as much as those in BM. I'm survival right now because I personally feel the BM shot rotation is boring and too restrictive for movement-heavy fights. But that doesn't make me a heartless jerk who'd throw my pet over a cliff if the situation required it.
I was BM for a long time, well before exotics were even in the picture. It worked back then, and I still had fun. The devs need to go back in time and see what BM looked like back then, and bring it back (because I don't remember exactly to be honest, lol).
