All righty. Image this time.

Looks wise, these guys definitely look like little demons with their red bodies and yellow manes. They're incredibly muscular looking, which is pretty funny because their back legs look like they're too skinny.
Image

When you look at them from the front, they have like a flap of eyelid or something that is positioned just right over their eyes to make them look cross-eyed. Their manes are also a bit tacky looking; very 2-D and low res.
Image
For me, the coloring's about all this little guy has going for him, and even then, he doesn't match Vitani.

The little demon dogs have pretty adorable animations. They jump in place when they idle and their run animation looks cute and sort of silly when you see it from behind.

They're not bad little fighters, but I'm not the biggest fan of lockjaw. Like crabs they have to channel this ability, in melee range, which means you better hope you can kill the mob you're attacking within its duration because you'll have all the aggro. I can't see this ability being needed much in PvE, and I would definitely recommend micro-managing it for PvP.

I foresee these guys as being pets people have out for looks. (I give major kudos for those who love em to bits and pieces and use them regularly. :D ) The demon dogs, and especially this color, just aren't for me and little Brat will be making a return to the wild.

So I got the blue moth. At first I didn't know how to get to Bloodmyst Isle as horde, but after a trip to the AH, and a few potions of water walking, I set of to find a blue moth.
Image
I really like the colour of this one, although it doesn't seem to fit my hunter quite.
The model itself is nice, but in general I don't like things with big flappy wings, I can't see anything. The colour however made up for that :p It didn't make much sound, no sound at all. RL moths doesn't make much sound either I think.
It did well in dungeons, and while questing, but as survival, it is crappy in holding aggro. The interrupt however is a nice thing, if you don't take the cooldown of Serenity Dust into consideration. Not that I had too much use for it at lower levels.

Image
Shortly after taming, no name yet.
Image
Picture in different lighting. Oh we're so pretty, Oh so pretty..

I have no idea what it eats, since my pets do pretty well on Mend Pet and lots of love. :p

However, this one's a keeper. I liked it very much, and it didn't complain too much either. Her name ended up being Serenity:D
Image
Good dps output, right? Here she even got a debuff which made her a deep purple of some sort, or is it dark blue. Kinda wish I could tame on that looked like that permanently! :D

Anyway, I suck at these reports, it becomes too much like school. I love to get new pets rolled for me, and tame them and all that, it's just the writing I have problems with. This will likely be my last for a while. :p

Image for me this time. I hadn't tamed an old model croc since waaaaaaaay back in vanilla when you had to tame pets to learn skills from them and I needed a new rank of bite. I don't remember liking them too much but why not give them another chance?? :)

First off, check out the awesome coloration on these guys. They have so many different patterns on their skin that I had never noticed before! That's definitely the best part about this model of croc - they have great colors and nothing looks too pixel-y. The little tentacle things on their faces don't move at all though which is a bit weird. And they have that back-breaking run animation that others have written about but it can't be easy to move smoothly with six legs. :D
Look at my awesome Outlands clown suit!

I just dinged 68 so we headed off to Northrend to see how he did in combat. I specced him for tanking and never once pulled aggro off of him. The nice thing about their special, a movement slowing attack, is that if you do pull aggro the pet can catch up to the mob before it gets to you. Crocs make great pets for soloing if you're looking for a tank. They do hiss a lot though, and it's not just when they're idle - they'll make that sound while running next to you. I like crocs as pets but I'm sticking with my cataclysm model, which makes much nicer sounds!

Roll me again! Tydarus, lvl 68, Exotics yes! (I'll be there soon enough) no monkeys

Alrighty! Daranara, checking in!

Image

Green spiky crab was my target this time. I was kind of happy about that, since it gave me a chance to look more critically about my spiky crab friends.

I run on/off with Myra, one of the color-changing crabs, but we were off-again at the time, so I figured I'd give the solid color a try.

For my tests, I selected a felscale crawler, because I wanted to check on Grunter too, just to see. No pig, but these crabs were easypeasy to find. I named this one Rangoon, because I was hungry when I did this.

Image

As far as looks go, it's a pretty solid critter. I enjoy their spiky shells and legs over their non-deep sea brethren, though the way their mouths look as though they're hanging open all the time makes them look a little goofy or awestruck all the time. The green coloring is alright, though I found myself missing Myra's glows before long.

Their animations were suitable for them, with their swimming animation especially cute.

Image

I'm familiar with how crabs work, between reviewing a regular crab once before and excursions with Myra, so that wasn't a problem. We found ourselves some scorpions out in the desert-that-shall-not-be-named, for no-reason-at-all-*cough* but soon we hungered for bigger prey. Luckily we didn't have long to wait.

Image

So we fought the dragon flying around. The picture below is misleading; it almost looks like Rangoon could handle it. And while we gave it our best, he just wasn't up to snuff. We healed up and tried it three times, with the same results.

Image

Overall, it was a good reminder that I do like Myra over all, and while Rangoon is now gone, I will be grabbing Myra back again. But first, I'd like to do this one last time, please.

Daranara, 85, exotics okay, no crabs, please.

I'm posting these rolls from my phone so we shall see how it goes.

Note: while switching between tabs in the browser, it reloaded my post reply window and erased all I wrote. So now I'm typing it in my Notes app. Argh.

Note2: I realized if it's a picture button/link I can't copy the file location/name of the picture. So I couldn't get the address for the small pictures, only the big ones.

Ahem, sorry for the super late post.

The pet I was assigned was a white spotted cat, so I set out to dun morough to tame a snow leopard. I decided to name her Ise.
Image
Overall I like the skin, the eyes look very pretty and the black spots look great against the white fur. Their special ability I don't tend to use, turning it off when I'm not BGing, and only then do I use it while defending. Shadowmeld + Stealthing pet + Clueless horde coming to grab the flag = Win. The teeth are kind of odd and pixely and flat, and the claws are always retracted, which is odd. The animations are the same as the other cats, and I quite like the sounds they make when fighting or idle, not annoying at all. Overall, a nice pet, not too fancy but still pretty.

And I think this'll be the last one for me for a while. Love reading the reports, though! :D

Durrrr. Finished this challenge a while back and never got around to reporting.

Pet: Orange Deep Sea Crab
Name: Trinket

Model: I really like the Deep Sea Crab model, actually. Unfortunately, the classic one just seems so perfect that the deep sea one falls behind a bit. I like my Ghostcrawler, don't get me wrong, but I sort of wish he had the old crab model! Overall, though, it's high poly and nice. The spikes on its cranium make it look like a punk rocker, which is hilarious. Its legs are a little strange, a little too robotic looking. Maybe I'm just picky, though.

Skin: I must admit I groaned when I got this one. The orange was - note WAS - one of my least favorite colors. It seems so lackluster and boring on the Petopia picture, and seeing it in Vashj'ir wasn't exactly exciting. Still, I found and tamed one.
Apparently he's a good luck charm, as I also found three rares. >.>
Anyway. In Vashj'ir, he's pretty much boring. However, as soon as I got to Stormwind, I was mightily surprised to see him shining gold! The orange looks dull without light on it, but with the sun shining off of him he simply glowed a bright orangey gold. Color me impressed. Depending on what way he's facing, the little parts of his shell that stick out can light up on the ridges too, making him look very realistic and 3d.

Sounds: He's a crab, so he was pretty quiet. Every now and then he makes a "Scccrrooww" sound that sounds a bit like something being dragged over sandpaper, but it's pretty quiet. However, he does click when he walks, which I can see being annoying to those who don't like noise. I found it neat myself.

Animations: His walk and run animations are both simple but nice, the legs clicking back and forth smoothly. His swim is pretty funny, flailing his front claws while his legs propel him forward, but I think the old world crab model looks smoother doing this. His attacks are very simple, swinging his claws at the enemy.

DPS: Not super, really. He's a tenacity pet, though, so he's made to tank, and tank he did. His dps was fairly good, but nothing to brag about.

Tanking: Quite good. He's equal to any other tenacity pet that doesn't have a tanking special skill. Strong enough, and doesn't have too much trouble keeping aggro with Thunderstomp.

Special: Not so useful. Pin is rather useless in PvE, and puts the pet behind in aggro. I turned it off and didn't ever turn it back on. In PvP I can see it being useful sometimes, but not enough to sacrifice dps. Overall, not a pet to pick for the special skill.

Overall: While I was quite impressed with the shiny orange on this crab, I wasn't too impressed with his fighting. That, and his model looks a tad too robotic for my tastes. A nice pet, but not mine.

Another? :->

Okee, so while I'm waiting around for my guild wars event to start, let's write this up!

Pet:
Image

White Jormungar Worm

Now I haven't run properly with a worm for quite a while, and have never given the jormungar-style a chance since I decided I didn't care for the original color scheme. I haven't looked at the new ones, so let's give it a go!

Image

...Actually, first check that out. I guess that's why it's called Dragonblight, eh? Ah well. Undaunted, I went into the nearby cave and found myself some wormies!

Image

Yeah, that one looks good. Moonseeker is completely disinterested in this hunt for another invertebrate, so I told him to go on home for now so I could tame him up!

Say hi to the nice people, Blanche.

Image

...Okay, or don't. That's okay too. Whatever. Anyway, the first thing I noticed was he hadn't seemed to shrink much from the taming, like most pets. So I went to check! Turns out no, no he really doesn't shrink much, if at all.

Image

Okay, so time for a closer look. C'mere, Blanche! Let's see your happy face!

Image

Very good~

The details in this model are kind of fantastic, if I do say so myself. He has tiny little scales on his belly, which is a different texture than the rest of him. he has TEETH inside his mouth, not just the usual "here have some pixels you can pretend can't you?" teeth. And more teeth on the inside of his mouth to suggest more rows of them! The tooth fairy might like him. The beak is okay, the tusks are nice, though I kind of miss seeing eyes on my pets.

Oh! And he drools! I hadn't noticed that at all until I got a good look. It's kind of hard to see in this image, but he's pretty much constantly drooling little thin drips. It's almost as bad as Drooly the Corehound, but way less obvious. It doesn't bother me, just an interesting thing!

His animations are smooth and nice, as well. His wriggling around, his idle swaying to and fro, the way he burrows when doing his AOE (though I'd like a proper emerging animation, plz), I like them all. Especially his swimming animation, which I did not get a picture of, oops. He flattens out and wriggles through the water like it's nothing! A nice bit of detail is when he swims his spiked along his sides undulate so nicely, almost as though he's trying to use them to help propel himself.

All in all, a pretty charming fellow!

Image

And he smiles so prettily!

Oh! there is one thing about him...

His coloring. He isn't so much "white" as he is "light colored."

"Well Dara," you begin to say. "Of course he's white! Are you blind?" Alternately, "Well, white IS a light color." If you're a jerk :P

Luckily I have pictures!

Image

Now if you'll refer to the shot above, you'll see Blanche in several different lights. He really picks up the color of the ambient light more than any other pet I've noticed. It's kind of neat, or it would be if not for the one teeny thing distracting me.

Yeah, he's got that mane. The standard "here have some 2D mane and pretend it's okay" bit. It normally doesn't bother me on pets, but on Blanche it's kind of a distraction.

Okay okay, so it's not just a review on his looks, let's talk about COMBAT.

Image

I wasn't feeling up to much today, so I took Blanche on my hunt for the ever-elusive white hawkstrider, which means it was time to hunt blood elves!

There was just one problem. If you'll look above, Blanche's thunderstomp ground effect is HUGE. I don't know if it's because he's so big, or what, but it seemed larger than my other pets' effect.

It also seemed to reach farther, because you don't know it but that thunderstomp also pulled the boss. Oops. So that was fun. I let Blanche die because we were swarmed by everything in the room at once and it wasn't pretty, then we reset and pulled more carefully. Things went more smoothly after that, though.

I'm used to tenacity pets, so I kind of knew what to expect there, though the fact his burrow drops aggro... ehh. So we did it the hard way and I dropped some traps and he burrowed and we just kind of faked it.

No mount, but there's always tomorrow!

OVERVIEW!

The white worm was nicer than I expected, and I seem to enjoy talking about him. I don't have room in my stables for him, so Blanche is off and away again, but if there was room I'd consider it! Maybe for another hunter.

....Eh, I've got one day before patch, so let's do one more.

Daranara: 85, exotics okay, no crabs or worms, please :3

Yeah, Dara, one of the amusing things about the Jormungar worms is that when they thunderstomp, they thunderstomp as if they're were full-sized in the wild. :D

I've always found it awesome. XD

Wow, that was pretty darn observant, silverstenopad! I didn't know some jormungars were chameleons. I'd consider taming one if I didn't have Grubthor, whom I dubbed Aquaregia.

Kormai, you might want to go ahead and add in the new skins to your assignments, and remove the pickaxe monkeys, since the patch is tomorrow.

I am SO sorry, I was (and still am, kinda) really sick, and I couldn't play WoW, or do anything at all, really, for over a week, so my report on White Spotted Sabercat (AKA Duskstalker) got delayed.
Here it is, now, sorry again.

I was assigned White Spotted Sabercat, and the only NPC available with this skin is Duskstalker, all the way on Teldrassil. It was sort of a challenge, I think, but I was lucky. No camping, no distractions. He was right there.

Image

A fast Tame Beast later...

Image

Meet PepperImp.

Right after getting to know each other, we headed for the ultimate hunter challenge (for that level) - Nesingwary's safari in Straglethorn Vale.
We had fun. :D

Image

We then headed to Dustwallow Marsh to continue our adventures, where we dinged lvl 40 together.
We also did several random dungeons.

Image

Here's another picture of us, waiting for the boat to theramore. It's awfully bright and corny, but PepperImp looks great in this light.

Image

I love cats. I love them IRL and as pets. I had this particular model on my big hunter once, and loved it, so I was very happy to be assigned it this time. I did swich to crocolisk for soloing after the challenge was done, but I still use PepperImp in the dungeons, because he's just that awesome. I think he fits my Worgen hunter nicely, mostly by contrast. He's so bright and shiny whereas she's dark with mostly earth tones to her colouring.
I think this will be my cat of choice on this characrer for a long time. :)

The skin is on the large side, when the hyena and the boar were still small-ish compared to the Worgen, this cat was impressively big, which fit, since Worgen are large models.
Colour, as I mentioned, is bright and attracts the eye and has a sort of a purplish glow to it. It's really pretty.
Can't say much about animations, they're just like in every other cat.
Cat ability, Roar of Courage, is AWSOME! What hunter would say "no" to more agility? :)

All in all, awesome pet!

Can I have another go? I promise it won't take as long this time...
Again on baby hunter, Pralinka is still out of room.

Name: Bajaderka
Level: 45
Exotics: not yet, sorry
Restrictions: please, no spiders or no monkeys.
Still willing to do camping for rares and taking long and dangerous trips for a particular pet.

I'll edit this post with new random rolls shortly. I need foods first! And obviously I will be including the new models. And I'll be honest I might skew the rolls towards a newer model if I find one in the family. Since it's nice to have an infusion of new blood. Haha.

EDIT:
Mmmmm carrot muffins are good! Also, yesterday my replacement video card arrived from EVGA and they sent me an upgrade...which wasn't compatabe with my monitor :(. So I had to drive to tigerdirect and buy a tiny little adaptor. Anyways, computer is back up to full strength and wow is pretty again!

Dara: Thanks for that review...I may go out and tame one of those now to see if i like the colour thing or not :O your shots look really pretty!

Loethlin: Don't worry about it taking so long, I hope you feel better! And I'm glad you really like that skin :)

Kurasu: I totally just noticed you live in Ontario *waves to neighbour*

*Can't wait to tame new things roll*:

So I've noticed that it's a little hard to find a hard enough to get pet (camping or trip) that is the only type of that model. So...I assign you this specific NPC to track down even though it has easier to get models. If you get fed up, you can tame the easier model. :)

I'm still having fun with the Goblin 'hunter challenge', but it's been too long since Aloicious has gotten some fresh air. So let's give him a proper roll. :D

Aloicious
Level: 45 (give or take; leveling is fairly fast)
Exotics: Too low level yet
Restrictions: None (but this is Aloicious; I love a challenge)

As it's the European realm, I would *LOVE* a new skin... but it'll need to wait for tomorrow for my actual report if I get one. :)
