UPDATE! I have just completed the Kanto pokedex in Leaf Green last night (Dragonite was the 150th) Wheeee ^_^! Also my LG team was slightly changed:
Old Team:
Cinder (Charizard)
Punisher (Nidoking)
Symbiosis (Parasect)
Tron (Porygon)
Rodriguez (Slowbro....a cookie goes to he/she that gets the reference)
Electro (Electabuzz)
New Team: Not much difference...the only thing that changed was that I evolved Tron into Porygon2.
Anywho....now back to stalking Suicune.
offtopic: Anyone else notice that there are no pure flying types in existence? (the only ones who can be pure flying are actually normal types: Arceus, Porygon, Porygon 2, Porygon Z, Kecleon). My explanation for this is that the move Roost has a hidden effect that causes your 'mon to lose its Flying type for the rest of the turn (eg: Zapdos uses Roost. His HP is restored by a lot, and he becomes a pure Electric type, becoming vulnerable to Ground-type attacks.) Anyone else have another explanation? While we're on the subject of Flying Hybrids....why isn't there a Fighting/Flying type? Its the only one we're missing. B+W FIX THIS NOW!!!!!!!!

Hm. Your explanation for why there aren't any pure flying types sounds pretty plausible to me. I've always wondered why that was.
Ooh, Fighting/Flying... maybe something based off of a
cassowary? They're birdlike, and are extremely vicious when it comes to protecting their territory.

Well, Roost alone would make no sense as it was first introduced in the 4th gen, and yet there has never been a pure Flying type in the first three generations. Though I believe I have heard some rumors that Roost was originally gonna be a move in the first gen, but it was too complicated to program into the game at the time.
Well, Doduo and Dodrio are based somewhat on Cassowaries, along with other large flightless birds.. Along with the smaller kiwi and dodo, judging by the name for the last one, that is.

Doduo always looked most like ostriches or emus to me. But yeah, they do have some similarities to cassowary. I wonder what else could pass for fighting/flying... maybe the
terror bird, AKA Titanis? Perhaps it could be another fossil Pokémon, along with aerodactyl, cranidos, lileep, ect. Feather fossil? /shrug. It's tough finding a large bird that doesn't look like something the doduo line could be based off of. Heck, maybe an eagle or something could pass for fighting/flying as well. It's fun to speculate!
Also, does anyone else find it adorable that in Mystery Dungeon, whenever Dodrio says something, it's other two heads repeat? ("My level went up! Mine too! Mine too!")

It also happens to be a fire-type pokémon. You wouldn't believe how many roast chicken jokes there were when it was revealed.

Well, they've got Pokémon based off of some of the strangest stuff.
Take Rotom for example.

It can turn into a washing machine.

An oven.

A fridge.

A fan.

And also a lawnmower.
It's definitely one of Gamefreak's more...
interesting Pokémon.

In my opinion...nothing beats the original badass ghost: Gengar (Giratina comes close tho) That evil smile is just awesome. Back in RBY he had some uniqueness...maiking him even better imho....I like uniqueness...(his evolution line were the only ghosts in existence: Gastly, Haunter, Gengar.....and they're all half poison) Dragonite was another one. While I didn't like him much (he's cool...just not as cool as others) he was top dragon for 2 generations in a row (RBY: him and his pre-evolutions were the only dragons....GSC: Kingdra came...but D.nite still topped it)....sadly now Salamence Garchomp, Rayquaza, Palkia, Dialga and Giratina all topple him. (he can still boast that he can pwn Kingdra, Flygon, and Altaria....tho all dragons can pwn Altaria....Kingdra still has a fighting chance against D.Nite tho....)
sry about goin off topic with the dragonite thing...was carrying off my "uniqueness" thing.
as for a Flying/Fighting type....hmmm......a bird with hands and feet with wings comin outta its back and it can do kung fu and stuff?

Pwning Flygon and Altaria? Hell no. Dragonite may be used in the OU tier, but so is Flygon! Flygon can do a LOT of things Dragonite can't, (And the other way around of course) but that does
NOT mean that Dragonite can pwn Flygon. And don't even bring Altaria into this, she's meant for status support, and defensive stuff, not offensive like Dragonite. (Not to say that she can't be used for offense, I actually have an Altaria that I use for attacking. Dragon Dance+Dragon Rush FTW!)
Seriously, just because they do different things does not mean that one Pokemon is better than another. Flygon has many resistances that most other Dragon Pokemon have, and while Garchomp has the same typing, Flygon is immune to Ground along with the other resistances that comes along with its type, not to mention being able to learn Roost without ANY drawbacks.
All in all, Flygon is a MUCH different Dragon than Dragonite or Salamence, so its not fair to compare it to them like that. Same with Altaria, who is used for a much different reason than the rest of the Dragon Pokemon, so, again, saying that Dragonite can pwn them isn't fair whatsoever.
... Sorry if I sound a bit harsh with this, I'm just kinda sick of people comparing Pokemon that have MUCH different roles in battling as if they did the exact same thing. And NO ONE says stuff like that about my sweet Flygon when I'm around!
But I do agree that Gengar is freaking badass and is one of the best Ghost Pokemon ever. That and Haunter and the Shuppet evolution line <3
