Re: Random Pet Challenge [v4.0]
My adventure took me to Stonetalon moutains for the rare, Tenok. I didn't expect him to be up, because all the other new rares were rarely up. But, to my surprise, he was up. I looked around for his cave and saw him trotting along inside, and tamed him.

After running out the cave to find a better spot to look at her, formly a him, I examined my new companion more closely.

I never had a chance to look at the outlands model into depth, so this was a nice find. I noticed, she had a overbite. It didn't bother me, though.
After thinking of a name for my new pet, I hearthed out to Stormwind, with my newly named Lolite, to see her swimming animations.

It looked weird, in my opinion, how their back just kinda goes up and down, and they paddle they're feet. I thought raptors hard a different swimming animation, but oh well. I don't like water, anyway.
We headed to the mailbox to mail off some ingame presents shortly after...

"What are you doing?" "...I don't know."
She was interested in what I was writing >_>
My evil plan to take over the world was comeplete when I found out she had no camoflague model.

"Lolite?" "I'm beside you. "Okay... Lolite?" "I'm still beside you!"
Needless to say, I really bonded with this model. The colours are gorgeous, too. I think Lolite's earned a spot in my stables.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v4.0]
...on a different character.
When Fel, my worgen hunter, hit 62, I remembered the old roll I had for Solaira. While I'm not playing her, I definitely am playing Fel and decided to adopt this roll.
For those who don't remember, I had the rather bland brown sporebat. I remembered his skin in the quest mob, Sporewing, and set out to Zangar to go find him. Sporewing wasn't hard to find--and a wyvern shot and a tame later, I had a new sporebat. I wanted a quirky name for the guy--and sticking with my accidental Supernatural naming theme, Sporewing became Chuck. Chuck the Prophet. And/or possibly God, we're not sure yet.
Introducing Chuck. He's a bit camera shy.
Chuck the Hypothetical God but definitely a Prophet is certainly a peculiar creature.
His front is very, very glowy. His eyes are quite brilliant, there's even some sort of spore-fiery substance coming off of them. (assuming those are the eyes. No one is quite sure with sporebats, frankly.) His underside is also very brilliant, bright green in the wings and a deepish orange yellow in the center. He gives off pink and green spores.
His back is mostly brown with pink glowy dangly bits (some people see the 'dark' side of sporebats and claim they are reminiscent of certain appendages, but I don't really see it. I suppose that's a good thing. Fitting, anyways, for a sporebat named Chuck, as any SPN fan can say.) The back of his head is a rippled gold color, leading into a muddy brown sort of color.
Chuck's colors overall are brighter then one expects. He's actually very glowy and he'd be hard to miss in the dark.
His animations are rather fluid. He sort of has a flowing flying animation, he elongates and flaps.
As prior noted by other sporebat users, his idle animation is just sort of flapping and occasionally he curls into a tight sort of 's' shape.
I don't imagine he's a vocal pet, but I was too lazy to find sound and listen to him.
Chuck's abilities Smack, Energizing Spores, and Spore Cloud.
Smack is the basic bite/claw/etc that most pets have, obviously. I've never seen a pet that legit used Smack, mostly because I avoid the moth/sporebat/nether ray sides of life. Energizing Spores is an ability that increases spell haste by 5%. I guess that'd be useful for caster heavy raids/groups. (I know my fire mage would love it to death. Damn you pyroblast.) His other ability, Spore Cloud, is AoE and can and will hit neutral mobs. So be careful of that if you're in a area with heavy mob density. (I'm looking at you, Icecrown). Spore Cloud reduces casting speed of enemies by 50%, (25% in PvP situations), making it a semi-decent PvP pet, I suppose. Again, another situational based pet--if you're in an instance or zone with heavy amount of casters, this could be real helpful.
Chuck and I went out to do some quests, and I found that his ability was distinctly not helpful to me as a Marks hunter. Maybe if it sped up Aimed Shot...
Chuck is fairly sturdy pet, and he can hold and dish damage relatively well. Granted, his ability isn't exactly the most helpful to me--and kind of a disappointment.
While Chuck is a quirky pet, I'm not exactly thrilled with him, and will most definitely be sticking with Cas. He can stay in my stable for now though, I guess.
In the spirit of Rose and Serenity, Chuck thought it funny to try and use Fel as a headrest. She did not approve.
Let's try this again, shall we?

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v4.0]
Post tame: Once again, I stuck with my SPN naming theme. This time, I named him Azazel (pfft spelling?), or the Yellow Eyed Demon that pestered Sam and Dean for the majority of S1 and 2, I think.
Azzie's model is the spiky OL raptor. I've never been one for the spiky raptors--I'm blaming the face, it looks a bit peculiar. It has a serious overbite going on. But ignoring the face, it isn't inherently a bad model. It's fairly solid, like most raptors are. You can actually see the scaling detail on its legs, which is kind of nice. Its belly is pretty as well, a sort of faint smoky blue. The yellow eyes are quite striking as well--very golden and pretty.
His animations are nothing significant to write about. It's well animated, don't get me wrong. His swimming animation is a slowed down version of his running animation, with possibly an extra forceful kick.
The combat animation of raptors is a sort of jump-kick that the species both in WoW and IRL is known for. (Check out those vicious claws.) They also lunge forward with a bite--though in Azzie's case it looks more like he stabs them with their horn. Azzie's ability is Tear Armor, which reduces the armor of the opponent by 4%, stacking up to 3 times. It's likely a useful ability when you're in a group without a warrior, and I imagine raptors (and I believe ravagers) are a pet that most hunters have in their rotation, for the whole sunder effect.
Azzie and I decided to go hit up Old Hillsbrad, because why not?
Here we are, waiting for Thrall to move faster. Dammit Thrall!
Final report:
- Model: Pretty solid model. Raptors age well, and the BC ones aren't bad either. The face is one only a mother can love, but frankly Azzie is kind of growing on me.
- Skin: The skin is, without a doubt, very well done. The belly is amazing, a very soft, smooth blue and the black parts of him sort of look like they're spreading, giving to that corrupt "monster" look.
- Animations: Very fluid. No real problem here.
- Sound effects: Irrelevant, as I don't play with sound.
- Food requirements: Meat, which I usually have on me anyways.
- Tanking ability: I don't plan on using Azzie to level--that's Cas' job.
- DPS output: I don't have many complaints, things are typically dead by the time he reaches them. Thank you Aimed Shot.
- Pet family abilities: A sunder armor is bound to be kind of useful at some point, when Cas' crit is taken care of.
- Utility: Overall a pretty solid pet that works just fine in instance situations.
I'm not sure, but Azzie is kind of growing on me. I think I'll keep the little bastard.

Ah, fair enough. I'll admit I haven't really been keeping up with other class updates (or frankly pet buffs either xD) so this is good to keep in mind. Bah, I guess it's hyenas and ravagers that are the useful ones, then.TygerDarkstorm wrote:Ravagers give 4% increased physical damage to their opponent, which is similar to the sunder armor effect.I think nowadays most, if not all tanks can sunder armor as can all specs of druid. Crotalus, I'm also going to ask that you read the first post of this thread if you haven't as that many restrictions on a roll kind of defeats the purpose of this challenge.

I'm liking this method of building up a bond with a pet. I decided to name my Basilisk Square. I ran around with him for a while, did some pet battles a long the way, nearly got ganked in Hellfire Peninsula as an all out war for Thrallmar was going on (40 Alliance took it over.)
Some things I'd like to note:
- I like his swimming animation. This isn't surprising, as I like the Crocolisk swimming animation as well.
- The model, animations and skin are okay. May need some updating by Blizzard in the future. (My opinion, of course.)
- DPS is relatively the same as all of my pets.
- Ability is nice, however the fact that it protects the target against damage is annoying.
- Sound effect are great.
- As good as a tank as any other pet, really.
- I don't feed my pets, they feed themselves.
- Has some good utility.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v4.0]
Getting a croc wasn't the most promising roll for whatever contender that was going to try my stables. I already have a crocolisk, Crowley, formerly Craw the Ravager. But I've sort of waffled with that being my Crowley--alligators don't fit the man, not as much as something like a serpent, or a cat, or even a fox would. Deadly, dangerous, quiet, and a bit of a bastard. So Uriel, named after one of the angels in, of course, Supernatural, has a shot. We'll see.
Uriel's skin gets their name from his back, actually. Compared to your average murky brown marsh crocolisk, Uriel's back is a brightish green sort of color. Surprisingly bright for overall a very naturally toned creature. There is a lot of detail on crocs that you don't catch in the wild that you do when you tame one. Compared to the new world crocs of Cata, the old world crocs have a surprising amount of stripes, spots, and gradients (my favorite artsy tool ever) on them. Their face is even a greyish blue color from the side!
Uriel's a very down to earth sort of pet-quite literally. His model is very low to the ground and it's very easy to lose him amongst grass and the such. Interestingly, he seemed reluctant to start running until I was a bit ahead of him, and then he'd go into super-waddle-mode to come and chase me down. Lazy bugger. Speaking of waddling, I hope you like it, because that's what crocs are notorious to do.
The swimming animation, on the other hand, is unsurprisingly beautiful. Crocolisks are born to be in the water. Always. Seriously. It's an incredibly fluid motion. They tuck up their legs and just sort of cruise sideways for momentum.
The idle animation for crocolisks are predominantly just swinging their tail back in forth and just opening and closing their mouths. I noticed that occasionally, he'd 'yawn', closing his eye some and opening his mouth wider. Uriel was bored of me!
Note however, the detail I mentioned earlier. The jaw, the whiskers, the stripes on the tail and the spots on the legs. These aren't a half-bad Vanilla model and people need to give old world more credit. That said, Uriel was quite picky on showing the animation most people know crocs for, swinging their heads around and snapping their jaws at anything that goes in there way.
Great, not only was Uriel was bored of me, but he also was trying to intimidate me! I bet it's because my favorite is Cas. That's okay, I see how it is.
Speaking of intimidation, Uriel's combat animations are similar to his idle, he snaps out and tries to bite down on the mob.
Uriel's ability is Ankle Crack, which slows the target's speed by 5%. Good if you want to stop runners or something, but I don't know how practical it is.
In the end, though, Uriel and I both agreed that this relationship wasn't working out. He couldn't handle a person who would like Castiel over him and I couldn't handle a mouthy croc that tried to bite my ankles. I sort of mutually released him in Rageclaw Den, by the lake, where he can terrorize Wolvar and Drakuru to his heart's content.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v4.0]
Still, Rose proceeded out to Tol Barad, knowing that foxes occasionally inhabited the small space across from the Horde outpost there. Sure enough, upon her arrival to the clearing, a red fox was darting around, chasing its tail. Rose snagged its attention and reached out to form a bond with it, the fox standing happily by her side soon enough.

Hm... perhaps this goofy fox did have some resemblance to Swift after all. Going off a whim, Rose decided to name him Swift Jr.
Stepping back, the huntress took a look at her new found friend, not that he was wanting to stand still for her to admire!

He was a handsome enough little fellow with nice sleek fur, long slender legs, and a cheerful, if mischievous, looking face. Overall a solid model, though a little blocky in some areas.
Since he was a feisty little guy that didn't like holding still, Rose got a good look at the fox's idle animations.

Sometimes he liked to sniff around himself as if he were looking for treasure or his next adventure.
Other times he would sit down and scratch himself.

...That face. Yep, Swift was definitely an appropriate name for this fox.
Swift not willing to stand still anymore, Rose took him out for a run to burn off some energy. His running animation was nice and smooth since he shares a model with the coyote model wolves.

Um Swift... your front legs seem to have disappeared. o_O
Being on the shared wolf skeleton also means that Swift has a nice, smooth, doggy paddle style swim animation.

With Swift growing ever more restless, Rose decided to test his mettle by taking him out to the new task she was assigned with--some new continent had been found while the Alliance were being hunted down and Garrosh was sending able bodied "heroes" to explore it and conquer it. Back to Orgrimmar the pair returned to be shipped out. Swift seemed excited by the whole thing, even after an Alliance cannon nearly killed him and his new mistress.

And he enjoyed riding on Rose's back to rappel down to the ground.

And it was a good thing the local wildlife didn't seem dangerous because he took a rather swell liking to them as well, even if the local tigers were twice his size.

Then it was down to brass tacks and business; the Alliance had nearly killed Rose, and even though Rose had friends in the Alliance, they needed to pay for nearly costing her her life. Time to see if Swift could assist her in a fight.

Erm Swift... this is no time for a snack!

Don't bite her butt! ((Love the human's reaction in this one. xD))

By the gods Swift, what is wrong with your jaw?!
One of the most obvious things Rose noticed about Swift is that he makes *a lot* of noise when he's fighting, definitely not always a good thing for a hunter that prefers stealthy sniping jobs to running in with her guns blazing ((dual wielding pistols/hand crossbows would be the coolest thing ever)). She also noticed that he kicked up a lot of dirt and sand in his opponents' faces, which could come in handy from time to time.

Overall, while Rose did enjoy her time with Swift Jr, she is not entirely sure how Myriana puts up with such a rowdy pet all of the time. While the red fox's antics did make Rose laugh, she just couldn't handle such an unruly creature and let him return to the wilds in Pandaria--he really seemed to take a liking to the locals. After dealing with Swift's brand of crazy, Rose became much more thankful for her previously tamed, and much more well-behaved, fox, Blaze.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v4.0]
Funny story, that one. I already have a warp stalker. Okay, not on my person, but I already have on I love. Her name is Tirrae, and while she doesn't exist on my characters, and I don't know if Lupis has a Tirrae, this warp stalker is the one I love. She's overprotective, scary intelligent, sassy, and doesn't take crap from anyone, especially my character and her partner, Kozri.
Also funny, I actually planned for Fel to get a warp stalker. I wasn't expecting Cas to click. I certainly wasn't expecting a sudden Supernatural stable (with one exception, but he's canonically a hellhound, so I say he counts anyways). But here we are. So I never went out and got that warp stalker. But the RNG really, really enjoys toying with me, and declared a warp stalker I shall tame.
Which reminded me of Crowley. Both him and I were of the same mindset--this whole croc thing just wasn't working.
That was for servants, like Uriel, as opposed to the King of Hell. Crocolisk just didn't fly for him. He needed some quicker, stealthier, more savage looking, he didn't care how practical the ability was, raising hell in my stables was fine for him--enter the red warp stalker.
Crowley figured he'd give it a shot, switch vessels, like Cas did. So from croc to warp stalker we went.
I think he can dig it.
I like the warp stalker model. (Then again, I'm really, really not picky on models.) But warp stalkers are great. They're itty bitty tiny dragons, come on! In this case, this is the elusive red that existed way back in the old BC content, but was untameable. I believe he vanished somewhere around WotLK? Don't quote me on that. There's some fantastic scaling detail on his face and tail, and the stripes on his legs are a nice contrast as well. His eyes are a very nice shade of red that glow brilliantly in the dark. No qualms here over this model.
His only particular pitfall is those back legs. I'm pretty sure that's not how they work.
When running, Crowley sort of dips his head and surges back and forth, running along.
He's another fairly low to the ground pet, but that doesn't particularly bother me. His swimming animation is rather pretty, at least.
Crowley's animations are fairly simple. He sniffs the air, and then looks back and forth, making a snarly face. It looks like Fel and Crowley both smell something really delicious--bet they smell bacon.
Crowley's attack animations are a snapping bite he makes. His ability is Time Warp, and it slows movement speed of an enemy by half for 6 sec. I suppose that's cut in PvP, but even still, I imagine it'd serve some use. Being able to slow a flag runner or something? By half? 3 seconds could probably make a difference. Besides, he's such a low to the ground pet it'd be nearly impossible to see him!
In the end, Crowley and I had to admit, this was a far better form for him than that crocolisk form. As much as murdering random people sounded quite fun, though, Crowley and Cas refused to work together (Apparently they had a history that neither of them will talk about) and so Crowley elected to remain in the stable while Cas got his "fur wet".
Oh Light, Crowley. Don't you even think about hurting them or I will be back here so fast--
