This was so fun! First thing this morning I went out and tamed my random pet, which was a blue serpent.
I'm not much of a story teller, but here's how it went down

I headed out through the Barrens on my trusty steed to tame one of the serpents in the Wailing Caverns.

Image
looks kinda scary...

Image
Serpent spotted! Freyja dismissed, let the taming begin!

Image
Image
The first thing I noticed is that he is absolutely lovely. He shimmers beautifully and his colouring is very striking.

Image
We hung out in Dalaran getting to know each other. Once he was named, we bonded a bit more.

Image
We even did Pit of Saron together! He did great, didn't die once, and I really like his Corrosive Spit ability. Roar of Recovery is incredibly useful as well.

I love my little guy. I don't think I ever would have gone out and tamed a serpent on my own, but VĂ¡li is definitely staying. I leveled him up to 78, but will definitely be getting him to 80.

Right now he's helping me kill ogres for Mag'har rep :headbang:

Image
Did I do good, mama?

So finally decided to start the first of the random pet challenge, on Siliner!
Please enjoy the report!

I traveled to the swamp of sorrows for this one. For a beautiful green serpent with my trusty companion Nyyrikki who came back to the stable quite recently. Once after meeting a couple of orcs we swam to the massive temple in the middle of the lake.

Image
Siliner and Nyyrikki doing their tracking things.

In the end Nyyrikki decided to guard the stairs while I went to seek out this serpent. Didn't have to look far since one of them just happened to be coming up the stairs.
This serpent didn't come quiently, spitting dangerous poison and trying to bite the hands off of me.

Image
"So what the heck are you supposed to be long ears? A crossbreed between a troll and a human?"

I was excited to have a pet I have never thought of taming before so the impression was wonderful. She gained the name almost that instant Nefer which means "Beauty and goodness" or "Beautiful both on the inside and outside" in eqyptian.
Morowa doesn't seem like her since she's the alfa in Sili's stable even sometimes stepping on the hunters own toes to ensure his safety and Nefer seemed to be something that demanded alot of getting used to.
She seems a bit fragile since I leveled her all the way up to 80, she died about a couple of times in dungeons but just might be my carelessness or that she got more that she bargained for and I am still learning the new BM hunter.

As you can see she looks alot different in her natural habitat, not even green inside the temple.

Image
Heres a wonderful picture of her backside, it's quite sight appealing. So shiny.

She eats meat what I seem to have alot in my bag thankfully, I fed her some of the northrend stew I had leftover.

Will you keep the pet?
Oh yes she's staying, she has lurked her way into Siliners heart and become great part of his family. But he has to deal with her and Morowa starting to get along with eachother.

Siliner thanks her fellow Petopian for bringing him and Nefer together!
Image
Special thank you for Saturo for running randoms with me!

OK, good pick on the green spider for Teigan. That's a new one for her. However, Grys has had the green raptor, on several occasional. Can I have a new one for her? Thanks! :)

This afternoon, my little blood elf hunter set out on her new adventure. Slitheen has had quite a history. First she was created to level with another hunter, my son's character. He eventually outgrew the need of her assistance, and reached level 80.

Slitheen sat on my character select screen for a long time, until one day I just decided to play her again, and decided any future pets she tamed would be named according to Doctor Who aliens/characters which is where her name came from. Yes, I know the Slitheen are technically bad guys in most episodes.

So, off she went to Sholazar basin. She easily found the Sapphire Wasps. They're kind of hard to miss with their glittering wings. She dismissed her faithful Spirit Bear Oodsong, and tagged her chosen Wasp. Her frost trap didn't activate, but the tame completed successfully anyway.

Image

Slitheen decided to name her new companion after an episode of Doctor Who where the Doctor and his companion encountered a Very Large Wasp, and Agatha Christie assisted him in solving the mystery of what it was doing and why. Golightly helped her complete a few quests in Sholazar, and ran with her through her first time completing Utgarde Pinnacle (sorry, didn't get a screenshot of that). She noticed her new friend's coloring had more orangey-pink hues in the torch-lit halls of Utgarde.

Back in Sholazar, they continued turning in quests, and then that moment finally arrived, the one Slitheen had doubted would ever come all those many months of being inactive:

Image

Other observations:
The wingspan and movement of a wasp make it interfere sometimes with looting mobs or quest items. Any large or winged pet will have similar issues.
I haven't leveled Golightly to 80 yet, so our DPS is low for the moment. With gear and leveling it will probably improve.
I think I will keep this pet, because of hitting level 80 in his company, but my favorite pet for Slitheen will remain Oodsong the Spirit Bear.

By the way, an odd request to say the least, but... I'm bored lately. If anyone could be bothered to roll ME a pet, maybe a few of you, perhaps one of you will manage to find one I actually HAVEN'T already tamed, and I'll have something to do for awhile (namely, trying and reviewing a new pet of my own). Thanks ;D

I'm new here but I'll take this challenge. I have a bunch of open slots so this seems like a fun way to go about filling a few of them. I've got a BM spec so pretty much anything is fair game.

Random Pet Challenge Review #1: Cerah's Tallstrider Troubles

Sorry it's taken me a little while to post the results of my random tame challenge, but I've been busy at work and school. Anyway, here's how my tames have gone so far, starting with Cerah and her white plainstrider.

Image

Cerah went out to tame her plainstrider, tallstrider, whatever. Big Bird. Despite the sunny landscape of Mulgore, which usually put her mind at ease, something about this bird just seemed ... off.

Image

Thinking that shutting up that annoying Headless Horseman for good would brighten her mood, Cerah brought her new pet along -- to have the group's tank fall under a freezing spell (he dc'ed) when he touched the Horseman's pumpkin. When she finally could fight the rhyming villain, the plainstrider held out okay, but hearing a loud "squack" while fighting a boss instead of her raptor, Beauty's familiar battle screech, or her devilsaur Ironhide's Terrifying Roar was a little disheartening.

Image

Even if it's battle prowess wasn't up to Cerah's standards, she thought the still-nameless plainstrider might be able to function as a good luck charm. Many weeks ago, Cerah had heard rumours of a mysterious "spirit beast" stalking Sholozar Basin -- a beast with some sort of connection to one of the Troll loa gods. Always eager to impress her husband Seabaston's faction (she was much more at home with the Darkspear Trolls than among other Orcs), Cerah had begun to hunt the beast. Days upon days of searching came up empty. Perched near the Goretalon Matriarch's nest with her newest pet, Cerah realized that day was no different ...

Image

Not much good in battle, not lucky. At least the plainstrider could help while Cerah farmed for Globes of Water in Feralas which her warlock friend needed to finish making her Hallow's End costume. Cerah had spent quite a bit of time in the jungle in her younger days (lvl 40-ish), but one thing had eluded her -- the whereabouts of a gnome invention that was rumoured to have gotten lost in the area. With her plainstrider's help fending off the local wildlife -- even if it was rather weak compared to the monsters of Northrend, Cerah found a certain Robot Chicken.

Image

Despite the bird's help in finding its gnomish relation, Cerah just didn't feel confortable with the plainstrider. She brought it home to Mulgore, and released it back into the wilds. After which, her Hallow's End costume arrived in the mail from Emielee. With Beauty at her proper place at Cerah's side, she smiled as she anticipated the look on her sister-in-law's face when she saw her costume. Now, if only she could somehow get Beauty to dress up as a water elemental!

Random Pet Challenge Review #2: Leata's Terrific Tarantula

After a long and difficult journey through the wilds of Ashenvale Forest, through the mysterious Talondeep Path, Leata, the reknowned (in her opinion, at least), Dwarf archelogist finally made it to the legendary Stonetalon Mountain. Perhaps if she managed to reach the troll village of Malaka'jin, Leata thought, she'd be able to find a Darkspear Troll willing to talk to her, instead just having a reaction that Leata assumed meant "Dwarf! Kill it!", judging from the hail of throwing axes that usually followed her attempts to initiate conversations with trolls. But how else would she ever prove to the other dwarves of Ironforge that Trolls were not brutish savages, but rather the most ancient race on Azeroth, one the Dwarves could learn much from? If peace was ever to be achieved between the Dwarves and Ice Trolls of Dun Morgoth, she must keep trying!

Although her ongoing quest for dwarf/troll peace was ever on her mind, Leata couldn't help but wonder just how Talondeep Path had got its name. Even after her harrowing trip to Durotar to tame her beloved Crocolisk, Hyde, Leata knew little about the geography of Kalimdor, and the Night Elves living near the path's entrance had merely smiled (a little disturbingly, come to think of it) when she had asked. Leata, however, soon found out!

SPIDER! With Hyde and Mia (her snow leopard), safely back at the Astranaar Stables, Leata did the only thing she could think to do faced with a big, green, hairy bug bearing down on her. She began to soothe the beast, asked it with all her spiritual strength to stop its attack. Leata opened her eyes -- the spider was hers!

"Ah think Ah'll name ya ... Tarantulus"

Image

Too tired from her tame to even think about diplomacy with the Darkspears, Leata thought a return to friendly territory was the best course of action for now. With her new friend in tow, Leata began the climb up the mountain path towards the peak, where the night elves had another settlement, careful to avoid the Horde's Sunrock Retreat, remembering her eye-opening trip to the Barrens, where she had mistakenly run right into the Crossroads (yeah, you can tell I don't play Alliance much). Tarantulus was an efficient fighter against the many creatures up Webwinder Trail that attacked her -- as wyverns and thunderlizards all fell prey to the spider's webs. "My, aren't yoo tha handy one?", Leata remarked. Once reaching the top of the mountain, she regretted she had not taken any pictures of Tarantulus' prowress.

The Kalindor spider sure attracted a lot of looks in Ironforge. Even the innkeeper was impressed, though that didn't stop him from playing a Hallow's End trick on Leata. She momentarily wondered what the gnomes in Tinker Town would think of her new pet.

Image

Instead, a better course of action might be to check on an old goal of hers, while she was in the area. Perhaps her big, green spider would be a good luck charm? He is the same colour as a four-leaf clover, after all.

Leata had heard of the frostwolf who had somehow wandered down from Alterac Valley and taken over a local wolf pack, some called him "Timber", but had never spotted the beast. With her spider luck though, today was different!

Image

It turns out the frostwolf was female. "Moonracer" seemed the perfect name for her! Judging from Tarantulus' enthusiastic clicking, he agreed.

Perhaps spider luck is just what Leata needs to acomplish her ultimate goal of achieving peace between the dwarves and trolls of Dun Morgoth. She hopes that Tarantulus will be there to help for her entire journey.

***

Coming up, Toeph's adventures with her black worg! (as soon as I get around to taming it)

In the meantime, both Leata and Cerah are up for new challenges :D

Well, I wasn't going to make my post until later today after I'd played around with my piggy more, but I ended up liking him less than I'd thought. XD

For old time's sake, I thought I would go tame Bellygrub since he had killed many of my low level Alliance toons; I named him Baconator. I had some leftover fruit for him from my wasp tame so easy enough diet. His animations are adorable, and personally, that's about the only reason I had to like boars.

I have been meaning to go and try and finish my solo Kara run (I've only killed the first boss so far, Moroes ate my jormungar and I pretty badly XD), so I took Baconator with me to give him a try as SV. Right off the bat (and I know he's not 80 but still), he did pretty significantly worse than Glaedr, my jormungar. I think the lack of any aoe threat other than t-stomp didn't help. When it came time to face Moroes, he didn't even last long enough to get the adds down and I knew he wouldn't be game for further tries.

For a tenacity pet, I was less than pleased with his abilities to tank, especially without a special that helps me as a hunter or him as a tank (30% increase bleeds is rather meh to me, even if you have a rogue/feral in your group, you shouldn't be using a tenacity to dps with). Personally this pet felt rather lackluster and I let him go play in the wilds of Swamps of Sorrows and the only reason I would ever tame one in the future would purely be for their adorable animations.

I'd love to do this again on my two other hunters, is it still really doable at level 22?

Nazkal / 22 SV Troll hunter (has purple hyena, black boar, pink tallstrider, white lion)

Velkyrja / 22 BM Draenai hunter (has black worg, ghost saber, blue moth, black hawk, white crab, strider clutchmother, black widow spider)

edit: ahh sorry, edited in what pets they already have

So, let's see now.

Nanyana & Rip-Blade Ravager
I very quickly realized that the only mob that has this particular skin is a color changer. :( While I rather like the colors, I just can't get over the color-changing part - I like my pets to have a stable look, as I prefer to treat them as individuals instead of "random pets my Hunter calls over to help".

Subira & Turquoise Warp Stalker
Image
I've always liked very much the way Warp Stalkers look, and even though they don't have their Warp anymore, my heart still beats for them. <3

Atalfon & Brown Scorpid
Image
I have to say I've grown really attached to Scorpids at low levels lately. ^^

Image
This guy also has the sexiest butt around. ;)

Just to make it clear, this pretty boy is definitely staying. Now to just think of a fitting name...

---

I would also like to have another go at this. ^^

Nanyana - 80 BM Night Elf Hunter
Ghost Saber, Gondria, Arcturis, Ghost Jormungar, Red Wasp, White Eagle, Snarler, Kurken, Nuramoc, Old Cliff Jumper, White Lion, White Warp Stalker, Turquoise Warp Stalker, White Wind Serpent, Green&Purple Ravager
Subira - 80 BM Tauren Hunter
Skoll, Gondria, Arcturis, Loque'Nahak, Takk the Leaper, Jormungar, Mazzranache, Clutchmother, Red Owl, Olm the Wise, Snarler, Ironhide Devilsaur
Atalfon - 30 BM Troll Hunter
Ghost Saber, Takk the Leaper, Black Widow Spider, Red&Black Ravager, Aqua Scorpid, Brown Scorpid
Kainda - 13 SV Tauren Hunter (will probably level up very quickly, so doesn't matter if the pet is even above 20)
White Spider, Mazzranache, Purple Tallstrider, Rake
