Random Pet Challenge Review #2: Leata's Terrific Tarantula
After a long and difficult journey through the wilds of Ashenvale Forest, through the mysterious Talondeep Path, Leata, the reknowned (in her opinion, at least), Dwarf archelogist finally made it to the legendary Stonetalon Mountain. Perhaps if she managed to reach the troll village of Malaka'jin, Leata thought, she'd be able to find a Darkspear Troll willing to talk to her, instead just having a reaction that Leata assumed meant "Dwarf! Kill it!", judging from the hail of throwing axes that usually followed her attempts to initiate conversations with trolls. But how else would she ever prove to the other dwarves of Ironforge that Trolls were not brutish savages, but rather the most ancient race on Azeroth, one the Dwarves could learn much from? If peace was ever to be achieved between the Dwarves and Ice Trolls of Dun Morgoth, she must keep trying!
Although her ongoing quest for dwarf/troll peace was ever on her mind, Leata couldn't help but wonder just how Talondeep Path had got its name. Even after her harrowing trip to Durotar to tame her beloved Crocolisk, Hyde, Leata knew little about the geography of Kalimdor, and the Night Elves living near the path's entrance had merely smiled (a little disturbingly, come to think of it) when she had asked. Leata, however, soon found out!
SPIDER! With Hyde and Mia (her snow leopard), safely back at the Astranaar Stables, Leata did the only thing she could think to do faced with a big, green, hairy bug bearing down on her. She began to soothe the beast, asked it with all her spiritual strength to stop its attack. Leata opened her eyes -- the spider was hers!
"Ah think Ah'll name ya ... Tarantulus"
Too tired from her tame to even think about diplomacy with the Darkspears, Leata thought a return to friendly territory was the best course of action for now. With her new friend in tow, Leata began the climb up the mountain path towards the peak, where the night elves had another settlement, careful to avoid the Horde's Sunrock Retreat, remembering her eye-opening trip to the Barrens, where she had mistakenly run right into the Crossroads (yeah, you can tell I don't play Alliance much). Tarantulus was an efficient fighter against the many creatures up Webwinder Trail that attacked her -- as wyverns and thunderlizards all fell prey to the spider's webs. "My, aren't yoo tha handy one?", Leata remarked. Once reaching the top of the mountain, she regretted she had not taken any pictures of Tarantulus' prowress.
The Kalindor spider sure attracted a lot of looks in Ironforge. Even the innkeeper was impressed, though that didn't stop him from playing a Hallow's End trick on Leata. She momentarily wondered what the gnomes in Tinker Town would think of her new pet.
Instead, a better course of action might be to check on an old goal of hers, while she was in the area. Perhaps her big, green spider would be a good luck charm? He
is the same colour as a four-leaf clover, after all.
Leata had heard of the frostwolf who had somehow wandered down from Alterac Valley and taken over a local wolf pack, some called him "Timber", but had never spotted the beast. With her spider luck though, today was different!
It turns out the frostwolf was female. "Moonracer" seemed the perfect name for her! Judging from Tarantulus' enthusiastic clicking, he agreed.
Perhaps spider luck is just what Leata needs to acomplish her ultimate goal of achieving peace between the dwarves and trolls of Dun Morgoth. She hopes that Tarantulus will be there to help for her entire journey.
