Only some are that bad. Madexx is 10-15 hours with few exceptions (although with the most variation of timer that I've ever seen - it's almost like a 12 hour spawn with about 3 hour give-or-take involved). I think I still have the spawn timer data from when I was camping for blue...

I have my suspicions as to other timers, but none with data as convincing.

Well, if its a long timer, I'd rather it be concise. Like how Maddexx is in that 12 hour window. Not something like "It can spawn 2 minutes from now, it can spawn 2 days from now". because I will go absolutely nuts. D:

Most tamable rares fall within a 1-2 hour window either side of their timer. Madexx's 'window' is unusually long for something that isn't as wildly varying as TLPD/Vyragosa or Aeonaxx. It could be pretty frustrating when the hunt drags on for more than a week--because the longer the window is, the smaller your windows of 'safe' time are to sleep/eat without worrying about a spawn.

I have to say...

After looking this all over. I really like the mechanism, or at least the theory of it, but for me personally, I'm pretty "meh" about the skins used. I'll certainly try to track a few down, but other than the quillen, I'm not really interested in any of the skins. Perhaps the tiger and goat as well, but nothing really stands out. Perhaps that's a function of having SO many choices now, it's harder for something to stand out.

DAMMIT! There was someone at the convention I was going to who did sketches on consignment. If only this had come through before I left rather than after. I totally want to draw this/have this drawn now!

I'm really looking forward to trying this in MoP. I love the idea of actually hunting your pet. I wasn't particularly keen on any of the quilen skins, but when I saw Portent I knew that this was my quilen. ^^ I'm betting that he will always spawn in the wrong colour for me though.

Normally I hate pink, but Patranache is quite lovely. And Savage, why must you tempt me?!
