Gibson's
The Difference Engine was the first to be widely popular.
Carriger's
Parasol Protectorate series is a comedy of manners. Quite popular, but I stopped after the first two books.
Westerfeld's
Leviathan YA series is alternate WWI history, with Darwinian biotech alongside steam-punk engines.
Hunt's
Court of the Air was just a lot of fun; popcorn steam-punk!
Pullman's
Golden Compass. The first book is steam-punkish, but the sequels are not.

A Song of Ice and Fire, book three (
A Storm of Swords). I'm a bit late to that party, seeing as how
A Game of Thrones has been out for so long, but I hadn't read for a long time and was craving a fantasy series. I read a teaser of the first book (where they find the direwolf pups) and was immediately hooked.

Always nice to see a new Song of Ice and Fire fan! We have a spoiler-filled thread
here about the fifth book, once you finish that one.
Finished
State of Decay, finally a 'zombie' novel that I like! (Probably not enough to read the sequels, but I still enjoyed this one.)
Just started Hurley's
Rapture, the third book of the Bel Dame series that starts with
God's War. Highly recommend this series.

Ooo, have downloaded the first Magnetron Chronicle, will read it after I've finished:
Vandermeer's City of Saints and Madmen, a very thick New Weird book with lots of extras, and
Flynn's Eifelheim, a Hugo finalist that is an alien first-contact story that takes place in the Middle Ages.

Just started The Doomsday Book, I've heard great things about it. Bit intimidating though! Roughly 8 point font, with tiny margins and it's 578 pages long. x.x

>:3 Okay, so Daenerys had me really worried there for a while. I'm in the third book and was reading this one chapter where I thought she was going to do like the dumbest thing EVER! Unfortunately, I had to stop reading it since I was at work and my last break was over, and then I didn't pick it up for a couple days. So, I spent all that time fuming over how dumb she was. Well, come to find out on Monday when I picked up where I left off, she is so freaking awesome. She didn't do the dumb thing I thought she was about to do, she like...went all super-Dany and I don't wanna give anything away but IT WAS AWESOME!!! >:D Dracarys!

I went from liking Dany to loathing her with a passion, I literally CANNOT stand her atm. Shes just so UNNNNGGGGGHHHHHH. /RAGE. WHY YOU DO DAT. My favorite characters are still probably the Lannister Brothers and Brienne of Tarth though. xD

Hmm, perhaps I will come to feel the same way in the next couple of books. So far though, she's still one of the characters I like.
My favorites though by far are Arya and Jon. I've had a feeling since the very beginning that Arya and her traveling companion/friend (trying hard not to give away names for folks that haven't read it yet) would hook up eventually. It hasn't happened, but I can detect his affection for her in some of the things he says and the way he says them.
Then everyone will probably burst into flames because nothing's allowed to be happy in this series.

Nah, it's not as bad as people made it out to be...yet. It's not so much that OMG EVERYONE DIES, more like there are some people that learning some lessons about life the VERY hard way.

I guess what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger? And in some cases, maimed for life.

Currently reading the Complete Amber Chronicles by Roger Zelazny (I'm on Sign of the Unicorn right now, I think.) And I have the omnibus 1-10, so I'm set to read the series. After that, I have Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Once again, the Omnibus) so I'm pretty much set forever.

For my book club, reading Hobson's The Native Star. Magical steam-punk set in the wild west. Not a silly book, but lots of humor. Enjoying it so far.

Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko. Wonderful book, if a little hard to wrap my head around. I think I'll need to read it three or four more times to figure it out.

I'm curious what you thought of The Doomsday Book. I found the story absorbing but the ending is up there with the most hated endings of all time. I was like, "that's it??"

Haven't finished it yet, alas, my friend borrowed it for a trip. >.< But when I do, I'll certainly shoot a PM your way! Always up for a good book discussion.
