Meh, I don't feel dirty taming my flaming boar with the abandon pet macro. It still took a little bit of timing and required assistance from someone (since I'm alliance). I had my super-hard zomg-epic tame a long time ago, in the form of a giant green devilsaur.

If for some reason my boar gets taken since it was tamed that way (which I doubt it will), and the revive pet method is left intact, I'll do it that way. But for now, I'm quite content with what I've got.
I admit I'm a bit surprised with the amount of commotion this has caused. So it's an exploit (and a pretty small one), so what? I know of plenty of people who have used exploits quite casually in instances to bug bosses to not attack (ZG bosses for a mount), or to get a certain phase (Vexallus in H MgT) to happen differently to make farming easier, etc. etc. etc., without second thought. In fact, it's almost the
suggested way of doing it because it speeds up the process. It's not intended, it wasn't programmed that way, but people exploit pathing coding or whatever it is to their benefit. No one thinks twice about it! But find a way to tame a pretty pet? ZOMG!

No offense to anyone of course, but this whole fiasco is starting to become a bit comical.

I had a GM restore Skoll and Arcturis for me because I got sick of waiting, lol. I abandoned them for space before they gave us more slots. I'm not sure about the pets we weren't supposed to have, like the hydra and the ooze though.. Definitely ask a GM.

Yes, they will restore abandoned pets... ANY pet that you use to have. You just need to open a ticket and ask them to do so.
Just don't go crazy and ask for them to restore 5 pets at once or pets that you can easily get again.

I contacted a GM through a ticket today about the pet exp bug, and when they told me it was a glitch and asked if I had any other questions, I referred them to this thread, and told them of the ones I tamed; Sword wielding Lone Hunter, Ghost Wolf, Fire Pig, Shadow Owl, and Aura Arrakoa Protector. The GM commended me on getting the timing for the tames, and said it was completely fine to have. They also said it was clever use of mechanics, not an exploit, as the /script PetAbandon () is simply the same as right clicking your pet and doing so. Since you do it before the beast is truly your pet, however, you abandon the NPC in its place, not the pet itself. This means that the pet you now have is legitimately obtained, and you killed the NPC at the same time. Unfortunately, as the GM finished the discussion, I got disconnected, and could not log in for an hour. No ban, thank goodness, but I didn't catch a screenshot of the conversation
Also, Disembodied Jormungar keep the ghostly glow on death, but they disappear after dying. My settings were on max while killing them for the quest in Storm Peaks, and I accidentally crit it for 20k. It did the death animation, and had the glow as it despawned. I suspect that the macro will work on them if you time it right. Further testing by someone with no bad connection should be done

Thanks for the news, Kikanu. Glad to hear that pet exp gain is just screwed up badly, and not intentional.
I'm afraid that ever since the Grimtotem Spirit Guide fiasco, we'll have to wait and see. Good signs are nice to see, though!

Now that is a little gem right there... very interesting. Were you able to get a screenshot before the d/c?

Can anyone help me with this?
I've been trying to tame the Oil Stained Wolf for a while now and i just cant seem to do it. Towards the end of the tame i spam the /script PetAbandon() macro and all it seems to be doing is abandoning the pet. No matter how fast i press it. Ive followed all the steps and its just not working for me.

Bolded for ya. No luck on a screenshot due to shoddy internet. Damn you, Cox Cable! My first time being useful to Petopia, and I get DC'd before I even get proof!

I know I'm cynical and pessimistic when it comes to Blizzard, but what a GM says and how a developer thinks are often two entirely different things. My concern is that the devs are going to come out and say "taming pets with special effects is unintentional" and that they'll "fix it" so that you can't tame pets with special effects anymore as well as remove them from the game (whether you tamed it before the fix or not). Generally, they grandfather pets you got before the fix, but not always. Maybe I'm worrying over nothings, but I've played WOW too long for it to not be in the back of my head.

So........after all these cool new affects and skins we only have 5 that persist after pet/player death. Well poo,

I wish they would all stay. You think if we all parade around with these guys out, Blizz will make the skins/effects permanent, like they did for the 1st Serpent? (They make that a new pet family even)

Not going to happen, if they didn't take away my crocolisk that looks like a slime Im sure they are NOT going to take away a Boar that looks like a boar on fire. The only time they ever took a pet away from us is when we had pets that looked like playable characters. They may make them untamable but I'd bet my Vampiric Batling they won't take them away.

Wait what? That would be reakin awesome since i abandoned my hydra aswell cuz of lack of space. Still got my oozeling tough.
How exactly should i ask this in a ticket? Ask them to restore my pet and name the NPC or something?

It's best to write a polite inquiry. Mention as many details as you can just to make the job easier for them. Approximate time of when you abandoned them, what their name was, and what species they were.
Not all GMs will do a pet restoration. It seems to be a case-by-case basis or depending on their mood. I can only stress to be polite and patient, and hopefully they'll do it for you. Again, don't try to abuse this feature by spamming them with requests, it would be terrible if they decided to stop granting us this favor in the future.

Back when we could still tame the hydra, I had to speed dump it when I came across Loque (yay spirit beast). Sadly before the dailie came around that let you summon the hydra/slime/etc they hotfixed it so they couldn't be tamed anymore.
Two months ago however I wanted my hydra back. I just opened up a ticket and explained just that. That I had dropped my hydra fast when I stumbled onto Loque to tame her, with full intent on retaming the hydra.. but the dailie for it didn't come around before it was hotfixed. They had no issue restoring my Hydra.
Just tell them that you had the pet before, and had to abandon it due to space issues, and would really appreciate it if you could have your baby back. Just be very nice when you ask.

Well what wolves have you been trying this on? I believe the exact mob that has the ghost wolf buff when you get its HP down is the Ghostpaw Alpha (

The Ghostpaw Alphas do work, as do the Ghostpaw Runners. It really depends on if you're Horde or Alliance--the Alphas hang out near Splintertree Post, and the Runners hang out far to the northwest, near Zoram'gar & Maestra's Post. (If I'm spelling that right.)
The WoWhead link to the Runners is on the first post, if you click Ghost Wolves.
Still no word from the main posts on the WoW forums.

As Veph said, some GMs won't do them, and some will... while other GMs "escalate" the ticket so someone else can do them.
If you get a GM that absolutely will not do it then open another ticket and ask again. I have found that for some odd reason you can ask over and over on some things and it is like the GMs don't give the problem an incident number so the next GM doesn't know you have asked before.
Oh... and if it takes you 3-5 days to get a response from a ticket... your best bet is to email the request to wowgm @blizzard.com (without the space). I normally get a response within hours of using their email system. (Just so everyone knows... I am not bombarding Blizzard with pet restore requests... it's about something else that have I ask about.... a lot, but not so much anymore.)

Seeing the Warp Stalker effect I thought I would confirm/find the others :3 Front page gogo! haha <3
To tame these you must watch their phasing, your tame could be interupted if they phase out. You must Freeze trap them so that they do not lose their Phasing effect, after the tame/logging etc is complete, either fly to an area with no NPC's or kill what is around you.
Once they go to attack they lose the phasing effect, therefore this is a showcase pet.
Although, this guy isnt a warp stalker.. har.
Transactions:
And it works for the white one in Terrokar as well
They phase out every 21-23 seconds. Mostly 23. Yes, I got bored.

With that info, I would guess that they might only hotfix those pets with the +dmg bonuses, hopefully
