Haven't posted in a while since I've not really had anything to show, but I ran into a wonderful surprise today. Rather than a hatchling, I'm showing off what I managed to snag from the auction house. For context in this little story,
my goal has been to make a "zebra" based off of a porcelain figure I found back in May.
I had twelve random dragons in my den that were specifically set so that I had six breeding pairs that included all three colors that I wanted, with minor variations that were close enough to my goal (antique and white, and tan and brown). I kept getting colors that had NOTHING to do with the colors I had, such as random greens and purples, and I got annoyed today. I looked into it, and I learned how color breeding works; you get colors BETWEEN the two on the color wheel. So, since I had dragons with two colors I wanted and a third unwanted, I kept getting dragons with colors between what I wanted that were wildly out of place. So, in a fit, I threw out all but one of my breeders. That one specific breeder though? It was a male with White/Dirt/Sable. While not Antique like I originally wanted, white is a VERY close match to my goal, so I decided to stick with that. Dirt is non-negotiable, so that was good. Sable was only a few colors off from Brown, so that got me wondering. I went to the auction house to look for colors as close to what I wanted, and I found a big surprise surprise; a female Moon/Dirt/Brown dragon! As a result, this is my new breeding pair:
Now, my chances look like this if I breed these two (bolded for goal):
- Primary: 50% chance between
White or Moon
- Secondary: 100% chance
Dirt
- Tertiary: 1/7 chance between Sable, Umber, Soil, Hickory, Tarnish, Ginger, and
Brown
If I did the math right, that's 14 chances at the color combo I want. The downside is that I had to fork over 1000 gems to buy this dragon. Unfortunately, I don't play the game a ton outside of daily crap and breeding, so my gems barely go up. Fortunately I had a ton of chests to open, so I managed to scrounge up the gems I needed to buy it. This is by far the closest I've come to my goal, and I'm actually hyped. Sadly, I have to wait til the 15th to be able to breed them since the male was just used, but that's fine. A little patience is all I need now. I have my "zebra" genes ready to offload on the offspring when it's time, and I WAS debating on giving both of the breeders the genes so I could just see the goal when it appeared, but for now, I'm just waiting to start the process.
God I sure hope I didn't misunderstand how color breeding works, because all this effort would crush me if it was for naught. Predict Morphology shows that it does indeed cycle through all the colors I listed above, so I'm praying. I'm ready to just get my goal already.
