Move a pet into the stable and all that is needed to be kept in the database is name and npc-id number, possibly skin-id number. Talents SHOULD be dropped on stabling a pet, only the 5 active slots need that data stored.
While this would certainly allow us to have many, many more pets, my concern with this is it makes pets more like collectibles as opposed to actual usable pets. And I do want to be able to use them.
So let's say I usually stop by the stable master three times a day to switch out pets. If I had to respec them every time it would probably drive me nuts and inconvenience others (for example, dungeon queue pops and I run for the nearest stable master, then have to remember what spec the pets I just grabbed are supposed to have).
Somewhat related, I also wish they'd increase the number of active pet slots. No matter how carefully I choose my 5 for a given activity (and random dungeons being random), I'm always being asked if I have that 6th or 7th pet that I waffled on bringing.

I dont know if id like infinite stable slots as pets would become less meaniful, atleast in my eyes.. I mean if you can tame every wolf/cat/raptor etc in game and just alternate them for whatever theres less of a bond. 40 I wouldnt mind but not every single pet in game.
And I do find myself having to tame certain pets just for the buff really.. and I find myself having to bring certain buffs to the raid and only 5 active stable slots.. makes it alot harder since I also bring some cause I like them or need say an interrupt. And its not cause my raid is not casual, we raid every week and have killed every single boss so its just the raid set up even with 25, some buffs get lost so I have to supply it.

Whoa now...this is a GOOD thing! Have you seen what they're replacing it with? It's good!
Its being replaced with a smarter defense version.. they should just update defense and leave aggressive as it is. It has saved my butt alot in bgs with stealths. And it really shouldnt matter much to a good hunter, I have my pet attack keybound so my pet is on what I want him to be in the first place. They say itll help in pvp.. yah well maybe with the pet being taunted.. or something but I have my pet as my focus, so I can see what he is targeting so I can quickly send him back to what I want him to be on. And if they have this, whats the point of defensive now? It really has no point whatsoever. If your in a dungeon and you forget your pet is on aggressive thats the hunters fault and its not that hard to quickly put the pet on passive. I enjoy my pet cluing in before I do.. im a little slower then usual with having to tab target or try to quickly click an speedy rogue...
But now thats getting off track.. would love more stable slots, an easier way for getting to my stables Id enjoy.. call stable again plz.. or some.. stable master pet lmao, more active slots to *nod nod*

Well then, something like the equipment manager but for pet talents could be applied. You visit the stables and bring out one of your inactive pets - eg. a Cat. It immediately gets your "ferocity template" applied. It would be useable right away. You could retrain it in the usual way if your default template wasnt quite what you wanted. When it gets stabled, all this data is discarded and the absolute minimum is stored.

What if the game just remembered every skin you had tamed, and allowed you to put that skin on any pet of the same family? You wouldn't need a huge amount of stable slots that way.
